It is very hard to get a drivers license in Germany and to get a car registered. Which means that they have good drivers in safe cars. It is truly a pleasure to drive the autobaun, but you had best have an eye in the mirror for the fast movers. Unlike America where we had might as well give drivers licenses away in cereal boxes. Morning folks. This is sort of a poll to get an idea of what Spridgets are currently the most collectable / desired and their current market value. Realizing of course you can't really put a price on insanity . . . uh . . . I mean spridget love / masochism. We have all suffered a few of their engineering quirks. Hi Kelly, My leather seats cost me =A3325 for the pair, exchange, i.e. I gave my seat s in part exchange. They will then be re-done for someone else. That way no one has to be without seats while theirs are being done. The supplier also fitt ed them at no extra charge, I just had to drive there. According to my calculations, yours would work out at about twice the cost of mine. I would suggest you shop around, or if you are clever with that sort of thing, do them yourself. Wimpy.... There are 1500 owners who would very much like to be in your shoes with your 1275 driveline set-up, believe me!! When YOUR transmission goes, you can at least exchange it for the readily available, easily installable Datsun 210 conversion for about what it costs for a rebuilt British ribcase at today's prices. AND, you have the benefit of already having the higher geared 3.7 diff. as well (most likely) which came stock in the later 1500 Spridgfires. Hi Kelly, The e-mails are now begining to come through now, I expect the system was down for a bit, as it sometimes is. As for Midgets, mine is now out in the drive, newly serviced etc, and ready for the long haul to Scotland on Friday morning. It's about a 500 mile trip, and should take about 10 hours. G'day all On The Beach was filmed out of Melbourne, a southern State Capital city that is cold, windy, wet, miserable, and loved only by Melbournians. I have a 74 MG Midget, I already know it's been pieced together from SEVERAL different year cars, but I have run all the wires down and come up with two that have no where to go. One is Blue with a female connector on it, the other is Green/Purple with a male connector on it. I have checked the wiring diagrams in the Hayes manual and another English manual (it's red can't think of who it's by) and neither of them show these wires. There are two possibilities in my mind, one being horns (none installed) the other... MORE

But of course in the UK most of these have different names, and some - like the "sidemarker lamps" don't exist at all! And a "quarter light" as in the original thread topic, is nothing to do with Mr Lucas. The term light refers to a window or pane of glass - as in Elizabethan buildings with "leaded lights", "skylights", "fanlight", "borrowed lights" etc. Remember these are LBCs. Actually, I think everyone should stick with the British naming of parts and drop all references to hoods when you mean bonnets, rotors when you mean discs, fenders when you mean... MORE

Hi All, The best way to fit new seats is to drive your car to the MGB Hive, Wisbech, Cambridge, and let them do it for you!! I ordered my new leather seats from them about a week ago, and had them fitted today, without any difficulty!! (at least on my part). It took them over two hours to complete, as the runners were very badly corroded, and nuts wewe seized. But I drove home in comfort, without the need to place my socket set under the seat so that I could see where I was going!! Long live... MORE

Just for the record, not saying who is right or wrong, I grew up with the small lamps called "parking lights" at that time, in the fifties and sixties you could turn them on during dusk hours while driving instead of the full headlights (that is not legal anymore) or while parked alongside the road so other cars could see you. Flashers have since taken over that function. On a bugeye/frogeye the small round lenses below the stop lights would have been called parking lights, with the dual function of use as turn signals. Hi Generally speaking, a Midget should have no problem in handling mountain ranges. I regularly take mine to Scotland, using the lesser roads which have very steep inclines. In fact I am off there a week on Friday where I hope to meet up with David & Paula Campbell, listers from the US who are currently there on holiday. midgetSpriter's, I've been trawling the lists for an answer to what seems to be an eternal struggle of getting my Standard Block 1275cc Midget (1970) to run in a reasonable fashion. I've read with interest a number of suggestions and am even more confused as to what the right thing to do in regard to getting this car to run with todays fuels. I've tried the full complement of fuels and am currently running with Premium Unleaded. The engine has been recently rebuilt with the addition of hardened valve seats so I guess I should at least have some... MORE

Hi, The bulb for the flasher unit, according to my Brown & Gammons catalogue covering Midget 1275 & 1500 and Sprite Mk 4 is part no. 57H382, but I'm sure that any bulb of the right rating with the same fixing method would suffice. As for the green cover on the dash, I can't find it in any of the catalogues or manuals I have. Perhaps you could use a piece of green perspex and glue it in place? David, I had to stop and think about that, I grew up calling them wind wings but that was in North Louisiana. Thinking perhaps it was just what we called them when I was growing up I asked a native Californian and he also called them wind wings. Would never have thought to call them quarterlights. Now I wonder why they would be officially called quaterlights, I mean they are there to direct the wind flow. I suppose it depends where you grew up what they were called. We can get in the UK a product called 'wash and get off' spray. Most pet shops sell it. It neutralises the odour rather than just cover it up and leaves something to discourage them.
