I think GTX is Castrol's motor oil. If you use Castrol brake fluid, it is LMA. Assuming your brake hydraulics have been rebuilt since the car left the factory, any brand DOT 3 will be fine. Here in the UK, I use my mk3 Midget ALL YEAR ROUND without any problem. She has a good heater, I have a flying jacket and warm helmet and gloves, so I don't get cold in winter. I hardly ever put up the hood, unless it's raining before the start of my journey. When I had my mk1, I drove up to Edinburgh at the end of January, when there was a lot of the white stuff about. Even had a few laps around Knockhill circuit. And all this without a hood, as the mk1 didn't have one!! Margaret... MORE
every day is a Sprite day. As we near the end of summer daytime temperatures are around 83F Even in the depths of winter daytime temps are around 64F. Our main problem is frying at traffic lights especially in the middle of summer, 104+degrees. Heaven for me is cruising around the Gold Coast on a summer evening. An experienced professional classic car restorer here in the UK advises owners to slightly under fill the diff with oil. He says these always leak and since there is nothing to oil lubricate in the axle tubes (the wheel bearings are lubricated with grease when fitted) there is no need to have oil present and a quarter of an inch les oil in the diff will not cause any harm. I have not tried it and take no responsibility if he is wrong but I have had problems with these seals even when new gaskets and O rings are... MORE

I just got a sabelt three point racing harness at a british swap meet with the intention of fitting it to the stock seat belt mounting points on my 1971 mg midget. I got home and noticed a small problem. The belt that extends behind the seat to the rear point is too long. IMHO, this is not a good idea. There are some things that a "Shade Tree Mechanic" can do, after all, I are one, but there are some parts to the LBC that might be better left to a "British Car Mechanic." As far as your list, Wouldn't a simple "I'll pay you $50-$100, you look it over, turn it over, try to start it, check brakes, etc, and 1. tell me what you think, and 2. give me an estimate as to what you think it needs, what the parts and labor to do will be, and if agreed... Well the SoCal weathermen were wrong again! It was suppose start raining again yesterday and today - but all the rain stayed north in Los Angeles County. Orange County is sunny, mid-70s. So I decided to drive the bugeye up to a client meeting today . I had just replaced the RC40 muffler (riped off on freeway) with a cheaper Thrush Cherry bomb from NAPA. I liked the sound of the RC40 (throaty but smooth) - but I like the Cherry bomb much better (slightly louder, definitely raspier). Kinda the difference between white wine and Irish Whisky. 79 Midget, quick question: Does anyone know the type of fitting that goes into the back of the master and slave cylinder? Back story: Car was running great, shifting just fine, 68k on the odo, One day clutch goes almost to the floor, next day it goes right to the floor, no pressure at all. topped off Master cylinder, press pedal, fluid goes all over bellhousing and tranny. 145sr13 tires were origonal, however this measuring system is no longer used. the orgonal aspect ratio was approximatly 82%. This means that the side walls were 82% as tall as the treads were wide. 145/80/13 tires are a good approximation, and will lower the ride hight a little and have the origonal tread width but can be hard to come by in america (not a problem in england longstone tyres is a good source). It is possible to fit 155 or even 165 series tires but you must keep in mind that the aspect ratio (the middle number) is... MORE
Hello, I own a 1967 midget and am thinking about installing a sound system. I have read that to do this i would have to change the polarity of the car (or insulate the system- but thats a fire hazard I understand). Yes, I had similar thoughts, but it looks like it's been seriously chopped/channelled at the front so there probably isn't room for a tall Mini engine/box.
