Guys, I agree. I was one of the lucky ones in that my company wanted me over here and I have no intention of going back. I am now married to a citizen so that does make things easier but dealing with the BICS (New name for INS) is a real pain. All is not lost however H1 visas are available and get issued, also the green card lottery is worth entering. This is not the place for it but i feel i have to chime in and berry the system for good. We have the same system here in Norway and experiance exactly the same problems as Nigel describes in the UK. They have been trying for years to combat the inefficiancy with no luck, but social democrats never give in to their belives and to privatise is the biggest sin of all. I love Scotland, had the good fortune to visit Edinburgh a few years ago and it's a magical place, the Scots are the friendliest people I've ever come across and the scenery is just breathtaking, Scotland is, in my mind the Jewel in the Crown of the British Isles. I know that this really is off LBC topics but it is very interesting to me to get a snapshot of real living conditions from various parts of the world. Nigel's information of the tax of about 8% going health care is interesting. In my case, (and I am happy with my HMO health care plan with Kaiser) (except for the cost) It now costs me $800 USD per month!!!!! for me and my wife and no children. No, no, Nigel...you misunderstand. No one said England had the BEST system in the world and no one expects services to be free (except illegal aliens but this is government's doing, not ours. Keeps labor costs down I guess, generally speaking!). Absolutely nothing is free...but I think your system gives the average family more bang for the buck among "free" nations. Anyone have a mid 1965 Sprite or Midget with red or black seats with a chassis number either side of H-AN855554 (build date 14th August) and if so what type of seats does it have, as I am beginning to think my car should have buckets. any comments appreciate. Also was it Chris who was changing their bucket seats for something else a while back and if so do they still have them, since I may be interested. I am in the UK about 80 miles north of London. Cap'n I think the reason your prices are cheaper than ours, certainly at the moment is the USD to GBP exchange rate, which is an astronomic 1 GBP to 1.83 USD at the moment, which is the highest rate its been for years. The other reason is that our cost of living is astronomic compared to that in the US, I don't think a lot of Americans realise just how expensive it is here. Hi Rick Welcome to the list, and well done on your bravery on buying a load of bits that's meant to be a car! You don't say if you're in the US or UK (apologies to other list members in other countries) but the majority of list members are from one or other of these two countries. Nigel, I never know at what point in time I'm entering these threads so I apologize for any untimely input. FWIW-I couldn't bear to cut holes in the brand new back panel. I searched for small speakers on short "stalks" but couldn't find any suitable. Finally saw a set at the British Union Car Show last Sept. that screw to the flat area behind the seats. I have become used to it, because someone in the Tavistock, Devon, UK area has a white car consisting of a later rear half with a frogeye bonnet. The radiator grill is shiny chrome with the initials A H showing in cut-out letters. It does look a little unusual. If it comes out to play later this year I'll try and take a photo'. My Mk 3 Midget is called AVA, (her reristration letters). The Mk 1 is Poppy (she is red, and the poppies were in bloom when I got her) All our other cars have names as well, and there is a reason behind them (either obvious or obscure). I'll leet Nigel answer this one Cap'n but .... If you are talking about the plate I think you are, then according to what I have seen, and backed up by Horler, the plate was rectangular on all cars up to the 1275, at which point it became oval. I am sure that I will now be corrected as I am probably wrong! On another subject, I took the Cap'n's advice and bought the book on engines by Vizard. A fascinating read. I will be undertaking some of those mods. My aim is to look original on the outside... MORE

Roger... Over here, the self-contained (within the distributor) electronic ignition is called "PerTronix". Over there, it is known by another name and dammit, I cannot think of it but I am sure a UK lister will help me out here (hopefully). Like most new things, the PerTronix (a Hall Effect Device) had it's share of teething problems when new in terms of failure's. Since I have been using one for the last 3 years or so, I've had no problems. There is an upgraded version out now for most applications called (surprise!), the PerTronix II...which compensates for reduced dwell... MORE
it sounds a bit like a sliding sun roof, rather along the lines of the 'Web asto'. The plexiglass could be a wind deflector? Absolutely correct. You need a hole in your roof to fit it. Hi Everyone I am trying to identify some type of top/cover assembly that a friend has inherited. Possibly someone in the UK can help. A description: It is a vinyl peice aprox. 3'x4' with reinforcment rods under a headliner material attached. It comes with chromed finishing parts for all sides. It also has a piece of curved tinted plexiglass with mounting pins on each end for the front/rear 3' section. Sort of looks like a large sunvisor. The vinyl is flat, no sides or back window section.
