Hi Graham Welcome to the list and to MG ownership. To be honest, I found the Owners club a bit of a rip off, but thats just my opinion. Roche Bentley seems to have built a massive empire there, and it's way too commercial for my liking - I always thought Owners Clubs were meant to get the best deals for their members and work on their members behalf, not try and fleece them every moment they get, which is how I feel MGOC behave. Bob I don't know of any, and I think you're unlikely to find any. Having said that, it can be done. There was a company in England making Frogeye bodyshells from new heritage bodyshells, so it is possible. Hi all, my name is Julian from Uk (Nottingham) and I am a newcomer to the site so p lease treat me gently. I have purchased an absolutely beautiful (I would say that wouldn't I) 1967 MG Midget in Red, wire wheels, chrome bumpers, leather trim with white pip ing...mmmmm Anyway. I have a little problem in that after a long run with no junctions I often have to sit in traffic queues to get into the centre of the City. G'day Linda, Nigel et al My Austin Sprite is AAN10/87699G, body number 105002, engine 12CEDAH17223, built 2 June 1971. Midnight Blue. The most interesting thing about the car, however, is that it is a RWA - round wheel arch. According to all the texts, RWA cars were only ever badged as MG Midgets. But this car is definitely a Sprite (AAN10 prefix) and it has not been modified at the rear. All panels, welds, seams etc are original. Since the factory were building RWA shells in June 1971, it seems quite possible that one of them escaped with Sprite... MORE
Hi Colin, That is interesting, and I guess makes your car all the more unique! The last Austin Sprite was #87824, so 124 were built after yours at #87699. Certainly at that time as cars came to the end of the producton run they would use up whatever interchangeable parts were available, and I guess that included bodyshells! Interestingly, the first RWA Midget came out in August 1971. I believe they held back production until August each year as that was the change over date of the new registration plate letters in the UK, and when "new" models were... MORE

My Mk 3 Midget left the factory on 16th December 1970. It was first registered on 10th February 1971. Maybe yours spent it's early days in a showroom, or was a demonstration vehicle, which sometimes in those days were not registered until sold. That way it could be described as a new car!! I have just finished putting together the beginnings of a little library of out-of-print LBC-related manuals and booklets from the 60's and beyond. Have a look at http://www.1978mgmidget.com/manuals_and_booklets.html and see if there is anything of any interest to you. Some of these books are courtesy of "Ian F" of Auckland, New Zealand, who scanned in the pages and emailed them to me. Ah, Nigel! I thought yours was a Sprite, not a Midget. So, Austin Sprites on the list is down to 2 again ( I think) Mine, and LindainScotland's. There is another I know of in Cumbria and now Beckers in Australia knows of one. Bob Kinda depends a lot on the insurance company, and I'm sure things will differ slightly between the UK and the USA. I think you're pretty much right in what you're saying, however when it comes to 'classic' car insurance, things change slightly. One thing I will say, insurance premiums are not soley dependant on the dollar value of your car. There's lots of factors that are taken into consideration. eg age of driver, experience of driver, type of car, value of car, place where car is parked etc I think all this lot comes under the 'risk' factors.... Hello Group, Due to near arrival of Child number 2, sadly, I have to dispose of some non-core assets (can't eat it or wear it!). I have a 68 Midget in Old English White. 3 owners and 33,000 miles from new (genuine). Bodywork restored to a very high standard. The solid sound of the door shutting is like no other. The downside is that I think I broke one of the piston rings when building the engine. Also very small area of paint damage on top of o/s wing due to overcrowded garage. I've no time to fix it... I recently aquired a 78 1500cc midget that has been sitting for 8 years. I have been there before, so I am familiar with what I need to do to get this thing running again (flush & recondition tank, replace hoses, etc..) but I do have a couple of questions. 1. The car had been converted to a Webber DGV carb. Is this a better carb than the stock zeniths? Does it provide better performance or should I change it back. 2.
