Mephitis mephitis - large striped skunk, skunk, polecat - black with a white cap extending from its head and shoulders, developing into two white stripes on its back. FWIW, Had my flywheel lightened by a local mechanic who specializes in imports and is very familiar with British makes. For all you 1500 spridgeteers our there my guy only took out about 1 lb. of material. Told me the flywheel is pretty light as it is and any more might be counter-productive. So 1500 guys we either have better Triumph technology in our motors OR we've been screwed again. I personally like the better technology option. no IIRC no spridget was made in Warwick, in fact I don't think any Austin Healy was made in Warwick, only the Healeys that were made before the link with Austin were made there, and thus the production records were not recorded by BMC for these early healeys. Welcome, Jim.... rear RWA Midgets have a nice "balanced" look their square wheel-arched brothers don't share. Fr'instance, a Frogeye bonnet looks far more at home on the former as compared to the latter. A "tuned" 1380 matched with a 5 speed.... excellent!!! A Heritage Certificate will give you all the details of the car when it le ft the factory. British Motor Indusrty Heritage Trust are the people to contact. Hi all Need some help on where to find and what to ask for. Broke the line from the clutch m/c to slave on a '67 Midget. Seems like 5/16" standard flare. But all the ones I have found at the auto stores will not fit into the adapter piece. Is it a special fitting? metric? It does not have the British bubble flare on the tube like the brake side which made me think it was just done that way so you could fit a standard steel line and fitting. Will be thankful for any help with this..... MORE
Rob, Thanks for your input. That is the sort of think I want to know. I have driven cars in the UK on 4 or 5 occasions and can settle into shifting and stuff rather quickly. It is the visibility problem in passing etc I was wondering about;. I never use toll roads and rarely go through drive through food places. I do like the idea of driving something a little bit different. You know, "just a half a bubble off" sort of thing. I do think it would be cool to do. I will keep thinking about it.... MORE
I wanted to get everyone to pray for my son. Today, Sunday, I got a call from the Army that my son had been shot in the head. I am asking for all your prayers. He was in a Humvee going through Falujah fighting and a gang of Malishia fighters fired on the Humvee and hit Chad in the head. The driver got him out of the city and took him to Baghdad. He was in fatal condition but now has been upgraded to stable critical. His dad and I are on standby to fly to Washington then on... MORE

I've driven a RHD car through Europe, (from France to Prague, and back again) I have also driven a LHD in the UK (my first smart car). And I have driven a LHD on Route 66, 3 years ago whilst on holiday. Being in the 'wrong' side of the car makes for interesting driving. The main problem is when trying to overtake. My smart car in the UK was easier than the RHD Singer Vouge on the continent! It's all down to familiarity, i.e. which side of the road you are used to driving on. Margaret South Lincolnshire (UK)... No everything is the same. The only thing that changes is the stick position and of course which are you stick out the window :) After some practice it is quite easy to swap back and fore between LHD and RHD cars though saying that I drive the RHD on the left side of the road when in the UK. My Mk1 Midget, which I have just sold, left the factory as RHD, went to the USA, was converted to LHD, and 30 years later came home and was re-converted back to RHD. There appears to have been no alterations to the tunnel. BTW, when she reaches her new home in Austria, she will no doubt be LHD once again!! Chuck...do not be mislead by compression ratios which could be had back when leaded ("manly") octanes were available . Today's unleaded "garbage" octanes require a little more thought in this di rection, assuming a cast iron head and the ignition advance curve you're probably working with, along with a "mild" cam with relatively little duration which will favor maximum "trapping" of the combustion gases in favor of the low end of the useable rpm spectrum (torque.. as in street application). With aluminum heads you can go about a point higher than with cast iron, all else being equal. Also,... MORE

FYI For any car addicts (british or non-british) in SoCal area needing a car fix this winter, there will be a Car Show (charity event) in San Juan Capistrano, CA this February 5th, Saturday. I missed last year's show but from pics it looked like a good turn-out of several hundred. Cars will be mostly classic, muscle & hot rod American iron, but there will be some British as well (pics show Big Healey, Jags, Cobra). I will be there with my Bugeye, & I expect a friend & his son to be there with their Bugeye & RB... MORE
