Hello there I have a 1978 1500 UK model and was wondering what whether it was the larger wash bottle (no longer available new or used) or the wash bag that was fitted. I have photos of the car with the large wash bottle but this was an after market addition I believe as it wasn't present in the earlier photos I have. Either way the bottle is no longer with the car and am looking to replace it but maintain authenticity if possible. Hi, I'm currently speccing out a new car, and trying to decide what's affordable and what's not so I can keep an eye on prices for a while and hopefully pick up a good deal when I spot one. there was no charcoal canister on any UK cars - the tank just vents through a hole in the filler cap, and if there's enough fuel in, it will come out the same hole, especially if the car's parked at the wrong angle. David "David Jacobs" 24249... MORE

Not familiar with '77 UK cars...maybe they are the same emissions-wise as our US 1500's....not sure. I think there is supposed to be SOME pressure in the tank...shouldn't be enough to get by cap's seal, though. Maybe something as simple as a new gas cap (seal)? But there is a charcoal cannister in there under the bonnet? The fuel tank/sysem vents through this and the engine breathes inbound through this as well? The charcoal cannister also has a vent line which needs to be open... it's pretty small. And the charcoal element needs replacing every once in a while.... MORE
OK, the area around the spring boxes on the MK1 while physically solid has had patches of steel welded over other patches over the years, and the whole area including the rear inner arch and the reinforcement running round the boot floor like a chassis rail is quiet simply a mess, the whole lot needs cutting out and replacing. Now many years ago my dad and myself cut up a frogeye, and I have had to repair this area on my 1500 shell, and I can tell you one thing for certain, the 1500 shell has within the triangulated... Hello.. I have two sprigets.. The first car is a 1974 1500 (yes they do exist as I had to keep telling anyone I orderd parts for it from!)Which I bought in 1988, dorve for 6 months and then stripped, scince then I have replaced the inner and outer sills, repaired the floor and the front chassis sections and inner fornt arches.. restoration has stalled there, and the last time I actulally worked on it was 1991 IIRC! Well, from the sounds of it, it's a pretty standard 'body rotten' Spridget! =3D=0D I think you'll also find that the rear spring hangers will need doing as well. You'll need to give this some serious thought, and Robert gave some good advice (if you remove the bit about pop rivetting the floors in!) with regards to understeer, this may be of interest, I swapped the front springs on my 1500 for 400lb 8 1/4" springs with poly bushes all round and a 3/4" ARB with nylatron bushes (i have a freeling the old ARB was 9/16ths) its a '75 UK car btw. Now, this tightend the front end up no end and felt great, however, ther rear still had the standards springs and was lowered 1" on blocks. After these mods it had a tendency to snap oversteer mid corner (after initially understeering) , I was going to play with the tyre... MORE

Well, Rob... Vicky B. offers a rear spring lowering kit at a very reasonable price so you wouldn't be out much if this approach didn't work. I think the Ford Sierra 5 speed is what Guy Weller has used or is currently using....and.... .....refering to fellow spritester Daniel's handy, dandy informative book, we find (Pg. 63) that "Frontline Spridget, Ltd. has a sseparate kit, with special adapter plate that allows conversion to the Ford" Sierra 5 speed gearbox. We put the pan back onto the 1275, but cannot go further until I have the proper gaskets. I will not make them out of silicone!! So, in the interim, we took the 1098 apart. The problem we found, in the removing the frozen pistons, is that there are sleeves on the back two cylinders. One of the sleeves was moving when I was trying to pound the piston out. What holds the sleeve still? I want to build a motor for the Frogeye, to get it on the road, until the 1275 is built. I have two guys... MORE
