It is HAN9L/68345 with body number 58676, and was assembled on 20 April 1967, leaving the UK factory on 24 April 1967. I bed to differ, the flywheen on the 948 is IIRC much deeper, and it hits the back of the bell housing with the ribcase gearbox or it did when I tried to do it (I eneded up taking the flywheel and back plate off the blown 1098) The 948 that was in my frogeye (which also has a ribcase geabox) that I repeleced with a 1275 also had a 1098 flywheel As for the later gearboxes allgedely superior blauk ring syncro, wears out just as quickly. There are only two reasons to fit the ribcase, you are fitting... MORE
To get as much as possible. Sometimes sellers might put too high a reserve on an item, so rather than not make a sale, they contact one of the bidders to see if they are still interested, especially if their bid was close to the reserve. Happened to a friend of ours recently. His car did not make the reserve, so he contacted the highest bidder and sold it! His U turn could probably have been more of a danger to other road users than you overtaking. Since I have/Drive one of those un-civilised frogeye's, W/5 speed, I will take a stab at two of your questions, the RPM shouldn't be one of them because yesterday I was doing 70 at about 3500 RPM's. Your Oil Pressure sounds ok for a used engine. If during the 16 years it was down, you rebuilt it..... Not good. You might want to check the crankshaft bearings for excessive wear or the crank being oval. My 1275 runs 60-70 at 2-5,000 RPM, 50-60 psi at idle, but mine was rebuilt 1700 miles ago, not just the engine, the whole... MORE
I finally have my 1500 back on the road and am able to drive it agian after 16 years of having it in bits. I have a number of questions, some are 1500 only and some will be relavnt to late 1275. First one, What RPM is 60MPH? My car is alagedly giving 60MPH at 4K RPM in 4th gear, given I was on the motorway keeping up with traffic and overtaking some of it I am not convinced it is reading right! at points it was reading close to 70, others lower than 60, but the revs remained... G'day guys Sprite and Midgets had 7" front drum brakes. But you knew that didn't you. Austin A40 ("A40 Farina" for us Down Under and in the UK) had 8" front drum brakes fitted to an identical stub axle. So yes, it's as complicated as undoing the 4 bolts that hold the brake backing plate to the stub axle, and swapping over the backing plates and everything attached to them. It's a common mod down here as our vintage racers must retain drum brakes - discs not allowed. Also good for the part-time Concourse entrant as few judges notice... MORE

Anyone have a clue where you can get the chrome bezel for a MG Hazard swtich in the radio console? I have a NOS switch, but a beat up bezel... Couldn't locate it in Moss or Victoria British by itself. Thanks "Mike" 37286... MORE
I have had this with my Mk3 midget. It takes time and lot of patience to get it right. The catch in the centre of the hole needs to be adjusted. It also needs to be well greased. If you take off the front grille, it's easier to do it, as when it's closed you can reach up inside. Make sure the movable parts are clear of any grit, and then grease them well. Try re-positioning the sliding catch a few times. You will eventually get it right. But you must make sure the nuts are tightened up well,... MORE
Good point. Axles on these break fairly often. I once talked ot a guy who had broken an even dozen (stock car, on the street), and I once broke one at Saturday midnight, up in the mountains, 100 miles from home. Dave Fitted the exhaust manifold but it is hard up against the chassis rail, will show you. I am convinced the engine runs easier and purrs along smoother. I was going to put K&N air filters on, I wanted the one that spans the two carbs as I like the look of it but an owner I met at a show said they just made it noisier and no better so he reverted to the original ones but kept the sports manifold.
