G'day Jorge At first I thought the car was an Alvis. But the knock offs have me doubting. English and European cars with wire wheels tend to have smaller knock-offs holding on the wheels. The American cars of the same period tended to the large style as you can see on your pictures. There looks like there is a badge in the centre of the knock-off. G'day guys A recent posting from Alex on the MidgetSprite list mentions that: "Most BEs don't have a front bumper, and I personally think it makes the car." Well, front bumper bars were optional extras on the Bugeye. So I guess if you take a restored Bugeye to a Concourse, and you have no front bumper bar, then we can't deduct points for "item missing". About 10 years ago, I was a Concourse judge at our National meeting, and there was a magnificently restored Bugeye, complete with front bumper bar, and a proudly framed Certificate from the British Motor... Which glass are you talking about? It sounds like it's the windshield/windscreen, so you need to take the complete assembly off the car then dismantle it. The securing bolts/nuts are hidden away up behind the ends of the dashboard. I'm not exactly sure how this looks on a late US spec car as the dash is definitely different from my 1974 UK car but the 'screen itself is the same. I am in the process of rebuilding a 65 Sprite and one of the small jobs I have just completed is replacing the rusted out riser brackets which extend the chassis to provide the anchorage points for the front bumper. Rather than buy the brackets I fabricated new ones using the old parts as a pattern. Before I removed the old brackets from the car I noticed that they poked through the front valance panel a bit too low and the two holes in the valance had been modified to accommodate this ( I put this down to the... Samuel, IMO the time to do your head is when it's wet and cold , can be done indoor s , try the using kitchen !!!!!!!. Then refit it before the sun comes out so you can be driving. I'm assuming you will be grinding in the valves , I didn't realise the old engines were fitted with valve stem seals, I thought that was a more modern innovation. Samuel, The roads down South East are busy and full of morons. However up in Yorksh ire you will find there are lots of empty roads just great for spridget dri ving. Same for the rest of the country really , cities like Birmingham and Manchester and the immediate hinterland are busy , but that's the same in t he 'States. Same for our Motorways your Interstates / turnpikes. Except for the M25 around London you will easily keep up with the flow of traffic there , just don't forget to pay for your Pay and Display parking t... MORE

Is this is financial decision or an emotional one? Do you have anywhere you can store your car in the US while you're here? Paul, we all got there in the end, It's usually something simple when you can't figure out the problem. I wish I could have been a bit more precise when relating to the similar (mini) engine build problem I had many years ago. All I could remember was a long bolt fouling on something but couldn't remember where. It wasn't the oil filter bracket though. Oh well. Alls well that ends well.
