I have to admit to toying withe the idea of fitting the midget bonnet and wings to my frogeye temporarily, as there was one car built like this. In all fairness the fact the Mk2 sprite and Mk1 midget came out as well as it did is quiet amazing when you find out the front end was designed by Healey and the back end by MG.. allegedly they did not collaborate either.. Nigel, I referred to it not as a pinstrip, but graphics. Some of the others in discussion are pinstripes, but I consider the Flame 71 to be graphics. Correct period language would probably be either decals or pinstripes. I wasn't sure if you were referring to the same"Special" thing as you catagorized it as green/gold. The graphics on the Flame Midget are original to the car and I while it may not have come from the UK factory that way, I'd be willing to bet they were a US dealer option and not an aftermarket variable. Nigel, I don't think you should assume that just because pinstriping was not a factory finish option here in the UK, that it was not an original option over the pond as well. If MG did things for the overseas markets like triple wipers, extra indicator lights, pollution control stuff, then why not pinstripes? Hey, they even thought of putting the steering wheel on the wrong side just to attract extra buyers! Ummmmmmmmmmmm yeah ! Don, I have a simple philosophy regarding these cars, if I want a messed about ugly utility vehicle that gets me from A to B I'd buy a modern car that never breaks down, has every modern gadget known to man and looks like an alien spaceship under the bonnet (hood). I, however, admire and enjoy the simplicity of Spridgets warts and all and therefore cannot understand the need for certain owners to mess them about making them more 'usable and modern' in their use. Don That still doesn't make them 'Original Equipment' Don! Just because some 'over-enthusiastic customisation and personalisation crazy' North American Dealer want's to make LBC's shipped over from England more attractive to the North American consumer DOES NOT make pin stripes OE as defined by the factory or as they left the factory! But yes, if you like they may well be original to the car as provided by the Dealer - but what relevance is that in the general scheme of things? Rob, that is were the double pinstripes on my 73 are located, just below the door handle between the handle and lock. White double ones that have sort of a half arrow shape at the front. Hello Group. Just started to rebuild a mk2/3? midget. Stored in dry conditions for 9 years, from elderly relative. Main bodywork panels repaired or replaced. Engine out, with other various components etc. Where do I start first? A list of your top ten major jobs to do first!!!!! That should be enough to frighten me, before we get started. Good Question, but before any one of the many experts can respond you both must agree on what is your objective. Get running and enjoy. Rebuild, show and drive. Other. Why was the engine pulled? Did the car run or was their a problem? While the engine is out, and I assume the Trans.; Take and inventory to see what is there and what's not. Inspect the Trans. gears and see if all turns O.K. Inspect the braking system. Remove the interior stuff including the seats to inspect cockpit. From there it depends on what you two decide you... MORE
I am in the UK. I got really lucky with the Sprite. It's a '64, one owner from new. The guy bought it in his late teens or early 20's and kept it all his life and couldn't drive it any more. Adam This really isn't an easy question to answer, which is why I suspect you haven't had many replies! I read this last night and I've been pondering it ever since! The first thing I think you need to do, is really decide what it is you wan =3D=0D t, and what your priorities are because many of your requirements seem to conflict =3D=0D with each other.
