Sudsers and would be sudsers, After being a member of this list for about three years off and on this beer bash has finally prompted me to ask the question that has been rattling around my cranium since joining; where the heck are all you list people? I know some of you are in the UK and possibly elsewhere in addition to US listers but is there anywhere that locales are posted? Nigel, I certainly respect your desire for originality and admire the effort you are putting into the restoration of your car. The propensity over here to modify these cars, perhaps more so than the British, I am sure is influenced by the fact they are still relatively plentiful on this side of the pond. Rubber bumper cars in particular are very inexpensive here in California because many collectors dislike the rubber bumpers and see them as a bastardization of the original design to satisfy auto laws in the US and the stringent smog regulations in California. I posted my friends name and number earlier, but in any case here it is again. Call him if you have any questions (or are in the area). His shop does complete restores on MGs, Jags and other British cars. Sometimes he is hard to get ahold of because he is under his cars. I don't know if this will help, but... My friend (who runs a repair shop in So.cal for British cars) recently started working on a 75 midget and the clutch would not disengage. He told me he fixed it with the following process. Remember, this was done because the clutch would not release (like it was continually "in gear and rolling"). They push started it in second gear. Got it going fast enough to get it into third gear (without the clutch). Then stood on the brakes while it was in third gear and rolling. The car shook and... MORE
A few months ago there was a tool on ebay for installing this nasty little circlip. It looked like it threaded into where the hydraulic pipe goes on the cylinder and then another threaded ring compressed the circlip until it popped into place. I missed out on the ebay one but would now like to get myself one, preferably in the UK but if you know where they are available in the US then let me know that too. Hello there I am currently finishing of a restoration that someone else had started of a UK model 1978 1500 Midget. I was wondering if any one with a similar model had any photos of where the courtesy light switches are mounted on the door posts and also any info about the boot lamp and switch. Nigel... Way back when I just used Fantastic and Brillo pads to clean them up and sprayed them with Rustoleum Silver. I'd do them every spring and used Fantastic to clean them about every time I washed he car, which was often considering my both my MGA's were Old English White. Today, I'd clean them annually with something stronger like Easy-Off Oven Cleaner and spray them with Hammerite Silver, using Fantastic as part of a normal car wash to keep them clean between stripping/paintings. Driving is driving, music is music . . . I do not like to mix experiences or my attention. Driving is a love affair between human, machine, and the road. I have a wonderful audio system at home and a recliner chair to sit in while I listen to it. Personally I do not like to talk while driving any more than I would in a movie. Goodness folks! Alan, in the UK go to a motor factors and buy a tin of seam sealer. It can be trowled or brushed into seams after the first paint coats. It is compatable with paint finishes and although it hardens, it remains pliable enough not to crack. Don't use cellulose putty or fibreglass resin. They go hard, shrink, crack allow moisture in and generally don't do a good job. Petrol or parrafin is the best thing for removing the residue of any underseal, then finish off with a good engine degreasant. Guy UK, oop north "Guy Weller" 23798... MORE

Hi there suds lovers......... This is the 2nd of 3 notices of an informal get together of any interested people with in driving distance of San Diego. The dash cover you ordered is mast likely similar to ABS plastic. Therefore it has already been molded to shape. Follow the directions and it will look fine. Front tube shocks... I plan on doing this myself. I think the most popular kit is from frontline: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/frontline/ . I read that when the MG Car Co started, the name 'MG' was taken from the first letters of Morris Garages, but does not actually stand for Morris Garages. Just like the Foden lorries. One of the brothers had a falling out with the family, started his own company, and called his lorries 'ERF' (Standing for, but not meaning, his name, E.R. Alan, My point was that many of the products such as this, familiar to yourself, are not available in the UK under the names you are so used to using. You describe it admirably, but still don't gve a formulation from which one could find the equivalent product here under a different name. I guess that too is the Mystery! Nigel, I must admit I always have difficulty with finding products that our friends on the list in the States discuss and are so familiar with! Often wish they would explain the proper scientific chemical name rather than brand names like "Marvel Oil" etc. (Marvel in the UK is a dried milk substitute) Anyway, now I am doing it, referring to Jenolite!!
