Hi, Over here in the UK I tend to leave the anti-freeze in, as it is also a summer coolant. If a heavy winter is expected, I increase the ratio of anti-freeze to water. As for the clunking sounds from the rear, I had this sort of noise from my Mk3 Midget. It turned out to be the diff. Sometimes filling it up with the appropriate oil/grease, the noise goes away for a bit. But eventually the diff. will need either a rebuild or be replaced, usually with a reconditioned one, as new ones tend to be rather expensive,... MORE
If the car has been sitting around for years, especially with some fuel in the tank, the sender tends to absorb fuel, making it heavier, so it won't float. Or the linkage weakens with age, so the sender doesn't behave normally. I had this with my Mk1 Midget, but never did anything about it, as I always filled the tank after doing about 180-190 miles. We got a similar one, said to be from e-bay. We did nothing, but reported it to e-bay, who confirmed it is a scam. If either e-bay or pay pall want to contact you, they normally do it through the message centre. The e-mail we had was addressed to our e-mail name, not our e-bay one, so we knew straight away it was not genuine. For the imperial yard to metre conversion I always use the phrase, 'all the 3's - three foot three and a third' When said with an Irish accent it sounds wonderful(!) Anyone know if stainless steel fuel tanks are still available for early Spridgets, mine is a MKIII Sprite 1966. I Know they were available a couple of years back but currently none of the usual suspects here in the UK seem to stick them. I think the Idea of a stainless tank is brilliant since there is mo possibility of corrosion crud building up on the inside and finding its way in to the carbs (ever) and no need to paint the outside. I have a 1500 US Spec and had that same occurance a long time ago. I thought I had a vapor lock so I did the old shade tree trick. I walked over to the closest stop-n-rob (mini market which sells petrol for you guys on the other side of the pond) and got my self a bag of ice.
