Hey Everybody I need some help. The guy I bought my Midget from has two AH Sprites and he doesn't know what year they are so Im trying to find out for him. Iv already taken the identification numbers and tried decoding them using the guide on this web site. http://www.mgcars.org.uk/midgetspriteclub/sprite/spriteident.htm I know there Mark IVs but I cant narrow down the year they were made. Nigel I will strip and examine the probably get a local rebore shop to do the cra nk and block if required. Rebuilding and head reprofiling I'll probably do myself. I will probably get hardened inserts put in also. Some machining I can probably get done if required by my sub contractor machine shop. I got a bit interested in the bore Vs stroke for 1340cc . You can keep a registration no on retention for a year, at a cost of =A325 on top of the =A380 transfer fee. After that time, you can hold it for a furth er 12 months, for another fee of =A325. Forgive me Nigel... For some reason I thought your name was Alan to. The reason why I asked virtually the same question was because I wanted you (or someone else) to elaborate a little more on the modification necessary to install the Frogeye rear end on a Midget. What might seem to be a serious modification for one person might not be so to another... Thank you Nigel for taking the time to answer my rookie questions. Your help is greatly appreciated. I mainly mess with 80s-90s RWD Imports like the MR2, Supra, 240SX, 300ZX, etc.. I dont know why I didnt see that the Silver Sprite was a Frogeye being that the rear end is the only part I like on the Frogeye. I think I need glasses. Anyway... Is it that hard to take the rear panels of a Frogeye and install them on a Spridget? Is it a mater of traditionally replacing... MORE
Hellow Im new to this list. Two weeks ago I purchased a 73 Midget. It needs quit a bit of body work. Iv heard of Sebring Sprite replica conversions and I would like to go that rout. The problem is this Yankee cant seem to find where to get a decent replica kit here in the states. The only place Iv found that supply a kit is British Speedwell Racing http://www.toyshop-resto.com/britspd/sebring.html but I don't at all like how the back of the kit looks. The version that I grew up with was the same for England with the sword on the left so it can be drawn with the right hand, thereby driving on the right to allow the greatest distance between your weapon and your possible enemy. You will loose value off the car anyway if you sell the original plate, the age related ones that the DVLA give out are non transferable and have very strange combinations of letter on them.. (z's X znc V seem to be common) you will loose about 10-20% of the value of the car if you sell the original plate. I have made all the plates on my cars non transferable any way. I have a '61 Sprite with what is probably a desirable UK personal registration number (three letters, three numbers. I am contemplating selling the registration number to fund some needed bodywork restoration works on the car and I was wondering whether anyone else in the group has any experience of this. The number plate means nothing to me but I wouldn't want to lose the style of number plate (silver font on black background) or the letter/number configuration. About 15 years ago I visited my sister living in Malta. After a particularly scary trip in her old Austin mini I chatted with one of the locals in a bar and described the journey. In the UK, if you re-shell a car with anything other than a Heritage shell (which is classed as a replacement/spare part), strictly speaking, the car should be registered on a Q plate as being of indeterminate age so even if he did actually use a 1968 'chassis', he still wouldn't get a 'G' registration. no, no... with all due respect, Willy, your English pen pal is confused (which is why they began driving on the other side to begin with:)...a lot of people think we left the Crown for political reasons. This is not true. We left the crown to avoid accidents, as they just kept getting it wrong and many horse and buggy types suffered accordingly, WE drive on the right side....THEY have what's left. Duncan The biggest problem to removing the engine detached from the gearbox (I've decided to stick to British names for car components, If no-one understands me - tough!) is removing the gearbox bolts attaching it to the engine. It's hard enough to remove these with the engine and gearbox out of the car, let alone trying to do it within the confines of an engine bay! It's awkward taking it out with gearbox attached, specially if your front valance and rad are still in position (mine were removed) as it has to come out at a very steep angle... MORE
Don First make sure that your release bearing is not being held on, leaving the clutch partially disengaged. This could be a sticky throw out arm or a problem in the slave / master cyl inder. Usually the problem is found at the clutch end. If its not this then the driven plate friction material could have worn too thin OR it has over heated due to slipping - this will result in a shiny glazed finish of the friction material. I've had spam mails (supposedly) from English Academic Institutions, so I've emailed back (not using the address it came from) to the abuse department at that Academic Institution complaining about the spam mail and all they've done is emailed me back saying, very sorry, we've checked our systems and it didn't come from us.
