Do you smell gas when driving of if the car is parked? If no puddles, no smell, no pools of fluid on the engine then are you sure you are losing fuel? Could it be the gauge? Fill it up drive home...Park it...next day go back and fill her up again. How much is gone? More than normal for that trip? Could someone be stealing your gas out of the tank? I try to read what you post, but, the car that you took in, is it the midget? What year? Do you see puddles under the car? I know you have a British car, but I don't know it this is the car that we are talking about. What color are the puddles? Where are they? front, like the carbs, or rear like the fuel tank? The 1098 has a long stroke relative to its bore, so with VP3 cam I expect it would be more 'lumpy' running engine.Especially at low end of revs and not particularly a fast revving engine either (not knowing what else has been done to the engine of course) Don , Part Scotch , nah !!!. Scottish maybe but not Scotch, scotch is whisky !!! Brad I'm not an expert on gauges, but I don't beleive Jaeger was ever a British company, some may have been made here and fitted to British cars, but I don't think Jaeger was ever British, in fact I thought it was German, shows how much I know ; ) Also, asking what car it came out of originally, is a but like asking what car did this Dunlop tyre come off? I was out yardsaling yesterday (big surprise) and found a Jaeger gauge. This idiot selling it tried to tell me it came out of a GTO. He worked at a wrecking yard, and he took it out of one. Anyway I don't know what car it came in, but it is odd that a Brit gauge would say on the face Jaeger Electronique. That is frog language, isn't it?? BTW, I AM of French heritage, so I can say that! The bezel is 4 1/4" in diameter, and the gauge body is 2 1/2" deep. Any ideas on what... MORE
My Brother-in-law just bought a 72 Citroen DS 21, the gauges are Jaeger Electronique. . . . It like ridding on air sitting on overstuffed living room couches. It has a central hydraulic system that runs the suspension, transmission, power steering and brakes . . . an inch and a half round red warning indicator is in the center of one of the gauges labeled "STOP", needless to say it is the hydraulic failure indicator. Being Scotch, Irish, French and German, and who knows what else I have a broad range of folks I can be politically incorrect with.... MORE

G'day Chuck Aussie Rules playes are nuts. You get 50,000 spectators to a losing game in the pissing down rain. And Victorians, bless their tiny souls, are nutsier than most. Car painted all 4 times with Chromabase 911 red & Clearcoat. Hardtop with Cromabase 817 white & Clearcoat. #1 Bought car, rolling chassie, in primer, so had painted (painter # 1) 5 months & paint job 7 out of 10. Anyone in South East England on an MGB ring as well as this one. Got a person at work seeking an original and nice MGC roadster. Know of any? No rubbish but he appreciates it might have had to be restored. So many he has seen have been subject to the 'filler and respray' restoration then advertised as condition 2. Nigel, Congrats on the progress. I am jealous. I decided after much advice to tackle my car as a moving project and do the mechanical work first without completly stripping the car like you. Though everyone who gave me advice says I did the right thing I would probably do a strip and rebuild if I had to do it over again. The car runs OK now but with 4 colors (colours) of paint and some interesting body sections I sure wish it looked as good as some of the British cars I've seen. I think having the car... MORE

A bit of advice please. Reference the cover which is fitted over the spring box after the springs are inserted: Does this cover have to be welded in place or do the fixing bolts provide sufficient clamping force to disperse the forces encountered in this area? Can you stop shouting! (turn your caps lock off) Yes there are minis with twin SU carbs, but they are Mini Coopers (real mini coopers not the overgrown lump of lard built by BMW). There other cars with twin SU's on A-Series engines , but by far the most common are spridgets. The correct brass top carbs that a frogeye would have however are frogeye only IIRC and very hard to source. IIRC the 1300GT, Riley elf, Riley kestrel, Mini Cooper, AH sprite and MG midget were the only BMC cars to have the twin SU's on an a-series... MORE
Well....Big Bob.... I cannot source this engine number but... "ass-u-me" ing a high compression 948, the U standing for remote change gearbox "over here". A standard set of Spridget 1.25 SU's with AN needles and blue springs should work very well, I would think. Thing is, you would want this on the better flowing Cooper twin intake manifold if at all possible instead of the stock Spridget (worse flowing) type. And then, the carb mounting angle might be just different enough that use of the Cooper intake manifold might require a little fetteling under there to get proper clearance... MORE
HI GUYS! I HAVE BEGUN TO RESTORE AN 1960 MK1 FROGEYE. THE ENGINE IN THE CAR SEEMS TO BE AN AUSTIN A40 OR A50 WITH A SINGLE ZENITH CARB. THE CARB IS TOO HIGH TO CLOSE THE BONNET SO I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD SWAP TO TWIN SU CARBS. I GOT MY HANDS ON A SINGLE MINI SU CARB WITH MANIFOLD WHICH FITTED PERFECTLY BUT IT WAS STILL A LITTLE TOO HIGH. ARE THERE MINIS WITH TWIN SU CARBS AT AN ANGLE OR EVEN A SINGLE SU OFF A MORRIS MINOR THAT WOULD SUIT MY CAR? REGARDS, ROBERT... MORE
