Jim, - I agree with Nigel, I would not have called those the Fulcrum Pins, but then I am also in the UK. But, now we agree what we are talking about.... The pin part itself is shouldered so that you cannot over compress the rubber bushes by overtightening. The nut needs to be tightened until the large washers contact that pin shoulder. The nyloc nuts are a good idea so that they don't work loose. The large washers also have a step in the outer edge which must fit snugly into the hole in the chassis brackets, otherwise... MORE
Scotch, single malt, has a much better flavour than Irish Whiskey, which has a more watery taste. And that's coming from an Irish woman!! I have been to tasting sessions of both types, and the Scotch comes out best every time!! But then, we each have different tastes, so we are ALL right. Scotch is better if you add TWO DROPS of water. I tried this on a scotch tasting session. It DOES make a difference, and doesn't weaken the scotch. Up until them I thought it did!! If you want to drive the car now, with the hood up, get it into a garage, and either put a heater inside or use a hairdryer to soften the viny, then with two people sitting in the car like up the clamps, and both close them at the same time. Me, I very rarely have the hood up. I just don't take her out if there is heavy rain. If it rains while I am out, it's OK, as I have a nice warm flying jacket!! (present from hubby many years ago!) My Mk3 Midget, (Ava) has the same problem. The hood is very difficult to clamp down. Sometimes it takes two of us to do it. It's a lot better now than it was 10 years ago when I had the rebuild. New body shell, original hood frame, new hood. It's also easier when the weather is warmer, and I daren't even think about putting the hood up in winter. I was just asking on behalf of the lister who asked the original question. =3D=0D It seems to me that buying a sound '62 bodyshell and exporting it from the =3D=0D US to the UK is a very viable alternative to using a new MKIII shell or paying =3D=0D someone to repair the old one. But for it to be viable it needs to cost somewhat less than the cost of a new MK III shell. I was just curious as to what the cost would be. If it tops out at 1,500... MORE

Brad What kind of money are you talking about to buy a relatively 'rust free' 62 =3D=0D body tub in the US? And what would the ship costs be to the UK? I reckon =A31,000-=A31,500 would probably do it. I think you may have a good point - buying a sound rust free tub from the U =3D=0D S and bringing it over may well be the best option - it has to be cheaper tha =3D=0D n having the repairs done here to the existing bodyshell. G'day all Good point Alan. Sprites and Midgets (and many other BMC cars) were assembled here by the Austin Motor Company (Australia) Pty Ltd, in an inner Sydney suburb of Zetland. The site was sold off for residential and industrial use some 20 years ago. Fortunately there are a few guys who worked for BMC during the 1950's and 1960's who meet a few times a year, and who visit interested car clubs to talk about their experiences, show photos of the cars being constructed etc. It's great that these guys are still around sharing their knowledge. Its very true! I started out with a '78 1500. Now I have my 71' Sprite. I keep finding myself looking at pictures of a MK II. Those clean lines around the windscreen without quarter lights, those deep door pockets and lovely round top seats........And then people talk of the smoothness of the 1098 engine....I can feal the addiction growing! Jens I went to my paint factor - asked for cellulose (not with clear coat separate) gave him the name - Blue Royale and the number - BU38 and he mixed up the paint for me using that reference code. Jens, look in the photos section . In the RESTO SHOW album. Two Frogeyes , the blue one with the supercharger is not actually Iris blue, but everyone thinks that it is **. I think its as good as if not better. ** All Is this how the confusion over BRG came about, people using a generic name to describe what they got, I don't know what Leaf green or Aintree green is but if you said British Racing green I'd have a good idea of what you meant.? Jeremy Quite correct; and you're about the only person to actually 'see' the point I'm trying to make, which is whatever colours were applied in Australia bear no relevance whatsoever to colours applied elsewhere in the world, because those colours were only used in the 'Australian' market. You could pretty much claim that Frogeyes were painted green with yellow spots in Australia - no-one else in the world would really care. But to claim that BRG is an 'official' Frogeye paint scheme is wrong for three reasons, firstly because if it was used in Australia how is that relevant... MORE
I think you would be better off simply buying a later model car. Why put al l that money into a 62 that will no longer be a 62? The value of the 62 is because it does not have later added on wind up windows and has a cleaner s tyle. Do not know about Great Britain but here you can buy a running 62 Spr ite/Midget for far less than what you would spend ending up with a car that has no value as a collector car and is neither a 62 or a 67. G'day guys I really don't want to continue this line of discussion, and this will be my last email on the subject. However, as I stated in my last email: There has been too much incorrect info published and accepted as "gospel" without checking what might have been done with regard the many thousand cars built here.
