stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... Stewart, if it's the same as late 1275 ones, then the front fuse protects the stuff that's not controlled by the ignition switch i.e. is live all the time - horns, interior and boot lamps, cigar lighter. It should be rated at 17 amps continuous, 35 amp blow. Both horns and courtesy lamps have permanently live feeds (purple wire) with the earth side being switched, so a purple wire is a good start for finding the likely culprit. IMHO, this is not a good idea. There are some things that a "Shade Tree Mechanic" can do, after all, I are one, but there are some parts to the LBC that might be better left to a "British Car Mechanic." As far as your list, Wouldn't a simple "I'll pay you $50-$100, you look it over, turn it over, try to start it, check brakes, etc, and 1. tell me what you think, and 2. give me an estimate as to what you think it needs, what the parts and labor to do will be, and if agreed... I was wondering if anyone could give me some information. I have a 1977 Midget. It has the rostyle wheels. I think I would like to refurbish these back to their original appearance. I know the trim rings and small hubcap were chrome. But, were the wheels simply black and silver-grey paint? I have showed pictures I found on the internet to my friend who does auto body painting. I have a bugeye with a 1098 enine. When I got the car I purchased the Haynes manual for sprites and midgets. It seems to give memostof the information I need. I was wondering if there was enough in the way of additional information or tips to make it worth buying the "Tuning the A Series Engine" book or one of the SU carbuerator books. Whatever! I didn't leave the bugey group, had too many people write to me and tell me to just put up with you guys. Some people have an interest in the cars and what others are doing to them, other are just jealous. About luxury cars, doing a nice job on my seats, adding air bags to the suspension and triangulating the rear end not only makes for a great ride and great looks, but makes it handle unbelievably well. Read up on air bags, they allow the suspension to sway-bar correct through the turns better than springs. F=KX.... MORE

The 1275 cam has a different oil pump driving dog ('spider' drive) compared with the 1098 (pin or slot drive - I can never remember which) You could use the appropriate oil pump for the cam, but then the pump mounting holes might be in the wrong place, as they moved around over the years, so you'd have to drill and tap the block to fit it. In the end, it's easier to use a proper 1275 cam. But make sure you have the spider in place between the cam and oil pump - if you don't, you'll never... MORE
Sure you can use a generic fuel pump. All the car parts stores sell them for about $30. I wouldn't use nylon fuel lines. What reason could there ne not to use metal ones? As far as using the cam from your 1098 - why? It's probably worn some, so why not just go for a new one, say a Kent 256 or 266. You'll get improved performance, and they aren't very expensive. I recognize this is one of those thological deputes that have been debated for years, like wht fluid shouold I use in my dashpots, 20 weight or atf. The fact is that my engine is still within the tolerences specified in the haynes manual. That is it is only .001 larger than stock. This being teh case there is a slight ridge at athe top that needed to be taken off to safely remove the pistons. Plus, how is it that a re ring and hone job would be any shorter lived than a re bore which would necessitate,... MORE
Well.... the brass sleeved cylinders seem to last a lot longer, most especially in cars that "sit" and are little used. :) Cap'n Bob '60 Frog PS...speaking of slave cylinders...as in clutch slave cylinders. Rivergate is producing their new 7/8" clutch slave cylinder. Need a new clutch slave cylinder for my 60 bugeye. I'm having the master cylinder resleeved, but a new slave cylinder is about 1/3 the cost of resleeving. I only drive about 2000 - 3000 miles per year. Is the resleeved cylinder that much better? rlirwn@... 36142... MORE

79 Midget, quick question: Does anyone know the type of fitting that goes into the back of the master and slave cylinder? Back story: Car was running great, shifting just fine, 68k on the odo, One day clutch goes almost to the floor, next day it goes right to the floor, no pressure at all. topped off Master cylinder, press pedal, fluid goes all over bellhousing and tranny. I have one origonal speaker and an origonal radio installed in the radio console under the dash in front of the gearshift. I can hear it over the engine just fine, but my knee kept hitting the volume knob so that now the rado functons but I have to jiggle the knob to get it working. I just installed two more speakers in holes placed in the masonite bulkhead behind the seats (the one that forms a barrier between the trunk and the cabin) that were cut before I owned it. Hello, I own a 1967 midget and am thinking about installing a sound system. I have read that to do this i would have to change the polarity of the car (or insulate the system- but thats a fire hazard I understand). Hey, Nick.... If you have positive ground, you can install a regular stereo. The only thing is, all the songs will play backward!! ;-) Seriously - I wouldn't want to listen to anything other than the engine!! That's why I got my 68 Midget! I can listen to stereo at home.... The Twinni came about because one of the reasons given for the rejection of the Moke was the lack of 4 wheel drive, so Issigonis thought he would fix this by adding another engine/suframe assembly at the rear. Then John Copper saw it and realised there was no reason they could not do this with a mini.. IIRC there were about 2 or 3 Moke Twinnis, and one Cooper S version (this being the one that snapped a track rod at some silly speed causing John to loose control of the car and thus destroying it and nearly himself...
