Nigel, my '74 has the same style front end, which I think was fitted after a front end shunt; I gather it was what BL were selling after 1275 production stopped, but before British Motor Heritage and/or others started reproducing the correct part. It's not quite a 1500 item, as they have provision for the reinforcement members and what are depressions in the chrome bumper type are actual holes in the 1500 valance; but you are right, it does seem to be based on 1500 pressings. The correct adhesive to glue perspex is Tensol 70, manufactured by ICI. It has a hardener which has to be added in the correct proportions. (easily done by weight, with accurate scales) After gluing, and allowing to set for 24 hours, it should be heated to 80 degrees C for about four hours, to harden the glue and normalise the acrylic, and prevent crazeing. Other 'one part' glues that you can buy as liquids are based on dichloromethane, probably with acryic chips disolved in it. The trouble with this type of adhesive is that it is very agressive and... Putting the seal in the bottom of the windscreen, needs lubricant. Before putting the windscreen on the car, put a calking along the ridge. They are know to allow water to come in under the sindscreen. Groments... I found most of them at a local hardware store, a very good hardware store, but still local. Foam under the heater box?? Moss doesn't show them in the cataloge here, I have never seen any, so I made one out of cork gasket material. It works, and you can't see it. I'm going to leave it there. Cap'n Yep car's coming along, I was going to say 'nicely' except I broke the 'spindle' that the inner quarterlight turns on this morning!!! Arghh one step forward two back as usual! I'll have to remove the quarterlight glass and glazing rubber now to get at it and replace it, something I wasn't intending doing - but I'm going to have to do now. More parts ordering, more wait for them to arrive more fixing of something that didn't need fixing! The cars looking good though, very pleased with progress so far. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 33019... Hi folks OK ok ok ok ok - what's the secret to getting this sucker to fit? I've already spent about 3 hours fiddling with this piece of !$%&* and not got anywhere. It's the one that seals the bottom of the windscreen to the scuttle. Any advice on this one gratefully received! Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 33011... MORE
David Everythings fine thanks! I just don't get on here much these days, not through unwillingness, but as I read the posts on the webpage, for some reason it's often unavailable, which is a pain! Car's coming along nicely, doors fitted and built up, bumpers on loom in, some lights fitted, starting to look like a car again! Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 33008... MORE
I used a plastic push stick, and a bondo spreader, to get it positioned, to sit flat enough to bolt the windscreen in place. You will also need about 3 mates to stand in the cockpit and hold the screen down, once you get the seal where it needs to sit. Brad "" 33015... MORE
Even with 'only' a 'small' V8 I wouldn't even consider it as they'd be pinging spokes all the time! Unless maybe if they were 72 spoke wheels; even then, you'll be forever getting them rebuilt as they have a tendency to go out of true with just 65 bhp! If your friend's are 14", they are most likely from an MGB in which case I think they fit the Spridget splines, but then you have the problem of what size tyres to fit on them - if you don't want to go too much bigger on rolling radius, you'll... Hi All. Well, we replaced the Master cylinder AND the slave cylinder, got the clutch bled and viola! ....the car ran like a well oiled top:) I had so much fun running around in it for 2 days...right up until I met with the local British Automotive club for a run...and it died on me in a parking lot. Damn! The fuel pump went out. We bought a new fuel pump today and I'll be up and running again in no time. The GOOD news, is that pretty soon I'll have replaced every part in the car and it... MORE
#1... A hair dryer will soffen the panes slightly to allow them to bend just enough to get them out/In. I also used a putty knife/scraper to bend/pry them out with thereby not chipping the panes. 2. I have heard that there was 2 sizes of side curtains, +plus the side curtains for the early 58 Bugeyes. The rubber is very hard to put on/in and the corners will probably separate. 3. There is a special epoxy/glue for the panes, you should be able to get it from the company that you get the new lexan panes from, or... MORE
Hi Mark, I just finished re-doing the side screens on my Mk2 Sprite so I know what you are going through. 1. My original panes were not useable as the plastic was badly crazed through aging so I wasn't too concerned about removing them intact. I did get two of the four pieces out intact by holding the frames down with my feet and flexing the plastic upwards enough to pull them out. I had to use a screwdriver to bend back the portion of the frames that were pinched to secure the front non-moveable section. Only the rear... MORE
I stopped today and looked over the Jag. It's a 61 Mark IX. Looks very nice actually. Has the Chebby V-8. Sign in the window says he has $20K invested, and is asking $12. Same lot had some Rovers, other jags, a 59 Caddy, an 50 something Mercedes sedan, a 380SL, and three Vettes. Some kits use the original brackets turned the other way and swapped over to the other side of the car, but the Spax kits for 1500 Midgets (as shown in the MG Owners' Club accessories brochure) use brackets that look like the one in your photo. If you jack the car up with the jack under the body, (the front mount for the rear spring is my preferred choice) then the weight of the axle just sits on top of the spring with no extra load on your broken plate. Once the U bolt nuts are removed the plate... MORE
Hi Jim, The pertronix still has too many wires coming out of the dizzy and coil to look stock, but the Crane module can be mounted inside the car under the dash, too. Pa Hi Jim, Meant that to apply to points that fail in a week. Sorry for the confusion. Both Pertronix and Crane are top notch units. I've just had such wonderful use with Crane, I have a bias towards them. I've noticed from the list that many have complained about the early failures of some Pertronix units. Later, Paul A "Paul Asgeirsson" 32947... MORE
Guys - While dissasembling my front suspension last night, one of the bolts which clamp the shock pivot arm to the small shaft at the top of the spindle broke while turning it out, are the upper shock arms available new from suppliers, and also how about the rubber bushings and the mentioned small shaft thingie which it mounts too? Everything is locked tighter than a drum, and was wondering if I should just cut the small shaft thingie off and replace both it and the shock lever arm, I'm sure all these little bits have proper names but... TJ, Just went through the same drill with my midget, at least regarding the brake lights not working. Check your brake light switch, which is just forward of the pedal box. If you have a faulty (read: leaking) MC or clutch MC, the fluid could have worked its way into the switch. A faulty switch will not operate the lights when the brake pedal is applied. Just another area to look at. Good luck, Pete "Pete Skalski" 32914... MORE
Just to add to the brake switch discussion. I just replaced the switch on the brake pedal on my '74. Raise the hood and locate the pedal box just behind the left front fender. There are 4 screws holding the cover onto the box. After removing them, the pedals will be visible and you can see if the plunger on the brake pedal switch is working properly. If there is any question, unhook the switch and use a jumper wire to connect the two wires coming from the wiring harness. If the brake lights light, the switch is faulty.... MORE

OK, working on the Midget again, it's running just peachy with the petronix. My last real issue before getting it road inspected is the brakes. There are 2 issues: 1. Brakes need to be pumped 2-3 times every time you need to stop to get full pedal. Once they are pumped, they are solid and do not go to the floor, no matter how hard they are pushed. I assume from this they are holding pressure. Additionally, they don't seem to be leaking anywhere. Next time you need to stop, you need to do pump them 2-3 times again.... MORE
Bob Nice to hear from you. Photo attached My MK III Sprite is the one in the gazebo, the event took place at Hermitage Hall near Downham Market Norfolk, on the original medieval pilgrims way to Walsingham. You may have to blow the photo up a bit to see the detail since it is in panoramic format, the non-Spridget on the right hand end is a Le Mans replica MGA, the red car about halfway between my Sprite and the MGA is an Arkley. David, The A+ Dizzy needs some simple modifications. The shaft length on the A+ dizzy is slightly shorter. To get it to work you need to grind / turn about 1/4" off the thickness of the top flange of the collar that locates the drive shaft in position. Then you need to either file the main hole in the clamp bigger to fit the dizzy body, or turn a little off the dizzy until the clamp fits. The A+ dizzy comes with a different clamp - a forked affair but you don't use that. The end result on mine... MORE
If anyone is interested, the same Midget that I had mentioned in one of my previous messages about the attempted scam on me, is still for sale. It runs and looks good. Now the paint is finally going on my 1500 I have been sorting though the bits. On inspecting the front suspension what a surprise, it's all shot. play nearly everywhere it should not be. Do any of the owners clubs in the UK still keep the reamer needed to fit the bush and lend it out? (IIRC Dad borrowed one from the local MGOC back in the '70s).
