Ya' know.... Cats are not dogs, guys. There are no leash laws or "scooper" laws for cats, either. There ARE laws against taking or harming pets and dumb domesticated animals however, along with general laws on animal cruelty. It was not that long ago that I filed charges against a neighbor of mine for mistreating another neighbor's pet...guy didn't think anyone was lookin' I guess... wrongomundo and it cost him a couple of hundred bucks...too baaaaad. My tonneau cover fits tightly....no cat can get in there. The best they can do is sleep on it (which does no harm).... MORE
"That' what I mean about 'unpredictabe handling'". Nigel, my friend! How "unpredictable"? YOU just predicted it, yourself! Read your own post.....thus, a 3/4" front bar would straighten the matter out in a hearbeat along with maybe a little tweaking of the fore/aft tire pressure ratio. NOW...without the 200lbs of bumpers, the more responsive "pedal" and increased torque of the 1500 and you've got........? :) Ah Hah!!:):) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 24031... MORE
My problem 'was' squirrels. I'd have to say 'now' though.... most in the area are 'trained' to say away from my cars (and bird feeders) My .22cal target pellet pistol has gotten really good at breaking feet. Being the owner of a somewhat converted rubber bumper 76 midget,I would like to say that my reasons for the change were simple.# 1 i got a nice car at a great price.#2 After much consideration and head scratching,I decided i could go without any bumpers.Having grown up in the 60S I never got over the hotrod/sportscar thing.Back then a midget/sprite looked pretty tough with no bumpers,A roll bar, wide stripes on bonnet and boot. They even had mag wheels[not minilight style]on some.Any way much as i prefer an older model chrome bumper model this is what i have to work... I hope you all had a good English beer on your night out, What English beers can you get in the 'states anyway? Margaret from South Lincolnshire UK (not from Chicago but near to Boston !!!!! ) would like a local get together - good idea - we should also do it in the midlands, but the Warwickshire Mascot members already do that - see the mag. Sudsers and would be sudsers, After being a member of this list for about three years off and on this beer bash has finally prompted me to ask the question that has been rattling around my cranium since joining; where the heck are all you list people? I know some of you are in the UK and possibly elsewhere in addition to US listers but is there anywhere that locales are posted? My ultimate purpose is to find out if there are any Chicago area listers possibly for a competing beer bash. Feedback appreciated. Rob C '75 Midget (minus... MORE
Nigel, I;m interested as to why you think such a car would be 'handling unpredictable'? Not trying to be argumentative just wondering if theres something i've not figured into the equation? Surely removing the rubber bumpers would enhance the handling of a 1500 as theres not two overweight lumps frn tand rear to create a pendulum effect. I guess original ride height might make a difference. I see where your coming from with originality, but as you say, different strokes for different folks and all that. Don Please don't do it. It's rediculous to convert a RB Midget to a Chrome bumper one, they simply are not interchangeable. I highlighted the main bodyshell differences in my previous post on this, and I hope you can see that many of the modifications to the bodyshell were made specifically to take the larger heavy impact resistant bumpers. The amount of work involved in doing the conversion, to create a weird 'handling unpredicatable' hybrid car would be as much I'm sure in getting an older Chrome bumpered car back on the road. Please leave the Rubber Bumpered cars... MORE
Don There were quite a few modifications made to the Rubber Bumper (RB) Midget over and above the obvious ones, which im sure everyone will point out to you. I'm sure you're aware of the history behind these modifcations, but to recap the RB Midget came about to meet the ever more stringent emission and control regulations imposed in the relatively large North American Market. It was also felt at that time that the A Series engine had pretty much reached the end of it's useful development cycle and as Triumph were then part of the BL stable, it's... MORE
Nigel, I certainly respect your desire for originality and admire the effort you are putting into the restoration of your car. The propensity over here to modify these cars, perhaps more so than the British, I am sure is influenced by the fact they are still relatively plentiful on this side of the pond. Rubber bumper cars in particular are very inexpensive here in California because many collectors dislike the rubber bumpers and see them as a bastardization of the original design to satisfy auto laws in the US and the stringent smog regulations in California. Also seeing that... MORE
You'd need to put on earlier front wings (bolt straight on) and the rear and of the rear wings are flattened off under the rear lights on a 1500 not rounded off like the earlier models. Can be done though, there is a web page somewhere with a guy who has converted his (in the US i think). You'd want to bring the ride height down too. Neil "Neil Rouse" 23960... MORE
Don, I currently own a 1500 and have done for about 8 years but only driven 1275's (in various states of tune) so I don't know how objective my observations are but here goes... For standard vs standard the 1500 certainly has more torque and IMO is perhaps easier to drive around town in traffic althought at pretty subective i guess. It also has syncro on 1st. However, although (well mine at least) is silky smooth even at unadvisably high revs the 1275 always seems to me more comfortable reving very high. not to say the 1500 won't but... MORE
Don, My '75 has the bumpers removed and I discovered the following: Rear end:Area below the tail lights is flat and obviously not meant to be visible. Front: There are two large rectangular cutouts in the wings roughly in the position of the 1275 turn signals that are there to clear a large steel support for the bumper corners. Obiously there is no chrome surround or grille worth mentioning. In addition the bumper support frame extensions must be dealt with as they stick out pas the grille opening. I have had the grille extensions sawed off back inside and... MORE
Nigel, I had asked because a rubber bumper car was selling close by for 500 dollars, but now that I have read all the feedback I will not do anything about it. Some was curiosity about the changes in the 1275 to the 1500 and now that I realize what those changes are both the drive train and body I am not tempted to buy it anymore. Thanks for the feedback, very appreciated. Don "Don May" 23971... MORE

Thanks for the information . . to all who have responded. Has the underlying frame changed? In other words I have a very rust free, dent free, complete front end of a 69 midget, can those fenders, front cowl, and hood be bolted on in place of the metal work that was modified for the rubber bumpers? That does leave the rear end to deal with. Don "Don May" 23963... MORE
Good Morning Spridget Land, Does anyone know how difficult and what it involves to convert a 76 rubber bumper Midget to chrome bumpers. Or can suggest a web site showing the conversion process. Is the metal work about the same behind the things? Don "Don May" 23959... MORE
Folks.... Part of what is pushing me to complete these projects is this group (besides the personal reasons). Hearing of all of you driving your cars and dealing with the little problems. Hell, any MG owner knows of the minor issues that goes on with them. I have yet to consider the interior and exterior. As my neighbor friend (a mechanic) says - "get it running perfectly, then worry about the interior and body". Do any of the members gather or put together meetings/rallys for others here? I'm sure there are quite a few people in So.Cal that would... MORE

There should be a little square box between the top and bottom hinges for the switch; it has two holes facing outwards (one for the switch body, one for the self tapping screw that holds it in place) The wiring passes through the box and then through the footwell side. If it's not there, it's possible that the A post has been replaced with the wrong one (not sure if you can actually get later ones with the box built in?) as these are notorious rust areas. If this is the case, you might need to fabricate some sort... MORE
Hello there I am currently finishing of a restoration that someone else had started of a UK model 1978 1500 Midget. I have the wiring information it is just the physical locations as I have no information to where they should be located. thanks in advance for any help Kris "Kris" 23907... MORE
