Thanks all, and David in particular Yes, that is the book I was after. I think I have read, and have, most of the books in print about Spridget restoration, but this is one I have not seen. I have been told that it is quite an enjoyable "light" read, rather than a how-to-do-it restoration guide. Probably not worth buying it but i might see if the local library will get a ccopy in on request. I wasn't too serious about the "Zen" bit. Just received a new book I ordered from Amazon. Great detailed color photos of year by year model changes, trim and interior changes and such on all Sprites and Midgets including Innocenti. I have been out at the flea market, and found a U.K. camp stove. It has the words "ORIGINEEL HALLER" on it. They are flanking a 2" sight glass in the bowl that goes around the flame. I tried a web search on these words, but the sites that came up are either German or Dutch, I can't tell. That is why I am asking the Slobberbone list as well. This is a neat looking piece. I believe that what you are looking at is a Bugeye chassis fitted with an original Sebring nose and a Speedwell hard top that was sold in the sixties. If you look close you can see the speedwell bonnet badge installed on the front. The speedwell nose featured a raked back windshield that was moulded into the front cowl. It looked like it was removable from the rear but in reality it wasn't. The racked back windshield allowed the little thing to reach a higher top speed.I have been looking for one of these for years to replicate but... MORE
Alan Hi and welcome to the list. You've got a couple of problems here, and as I don't know how much you know about Sprites and Midgets I'll try and explain as best I can. Now I may be wrong here, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I am, but =3D=0D the Red Sprite in the Sebring pictures look like its had a front Sebring Bo =3D=0D nnet fitted and a rear fibreglass Coup=E9 fitted. The Silver Sprite in the other p=3D=0D ictures, the one you prefer is in fact a Standard Frogeye Sprite with a Sebring... MORE
Listers I'm looking for a source of stainless pan head upholstery screws. I guess pan head would be the term as the screw I'm looking for is a pan head type sheet metal screw with the "finishing" washer attached to the screw. ( make sense?) I have a snug top hard top for my 76 that I got off a 300.00 parts car. It works well. It only came with the front clips so I had to sacrifice the parts car soft top frame into a mounting bracket for the rear mounts of the top. I like it. There is no porthole window in the rear corners, but it is nice all the same. If my Midgets pic is still on the site, you can see how one looks on the car. Alan, That appears to be a bugeye rear. As far as I know, and others will undobtedly chime in here, the only way to achieve that on your 73 is to convert to a bugeye tub, or use a rear clip from one. The top in those pics look a lot like an original bugeye hard top. These are sometimes available on ebay, or sometimes a lister runs across one. The nose is available in the US. My '65 Riviera blue Midget has an original white removable hardtop which seals out the weather just fine - and it is quiet. I love the hard top and I do use it a lot here in Pennsylvania when the weather isn't so nice. Warning - they aren't light (the original ones at least.) When it's off the car it is very easy to carry around by yourself but you can't reach far enough over the car from any direction to be able to simply lift it on or off by yourself - it isn't a one man job... Nigel, Well I lied! The garage ( I built it when we first moved here) is 9' 4", interior, but has a 22" workbench down one side which reduces the available floor space to 7' 6". That was the maximum width garage I could get between the house and our neighbour's wall, whilst retaining a "back passage" (excuse the phrase!) footpath to get to the back garden. Americans are right you know ... "Little old England" (with acent) says it all! When I was rebuilding my Sprite I stripped back to a bare shell and stored all the bits... MORE

Steve Woohoo! Many congrats. I don't think I am ahead of you Steve, I'm just finishing off the final primer coats on the passenger side wing ready for colour - that will be the last 'bit' on the car that needs to be colour coated. I still have both doors, bootlid and bonnet to colour coat as well. I don't know if you have this book or not - 'Restoring Sprites and Midgets - an Enthusiasts Guide' by Grahame Bristow (Brooklands Books) but it really is a very useful book in terms of reassembly. Yea, drill out the old and punch in the new rivets for the sunvisor hardware BEFORE you mount the glass. A new piece of glass and a headache later, I've learned my lesson. On my 74 the hard top mounts with the soft top still attached. There are two clamps on the top of the windshield (same the soft top uses) and a bracket on each side of the hard top bolts to a bracket behind the rear seat mounted at the same location as the soft top frame mounting bracket bolts. Cap'n Bob, I will admit that I owe you big time if you can hint that you can do for me, half as good a thing that she did for me later, because her hair had not been messed up. I am not sure how much hair you still have, or how much you care about how it looks, but I do know how gratefull she was and how reciprocal she was. lolol Some things are worth it!!!!!!!!! Just my two pence worth on the hard top thing. I agree with all the above comments. In addition, I like the way they look on a Bugeye, rather cute, and it does keep the rain out of the car when parked much better than a toneua cover or soft top. When chilly, you can drive with the heater on and almost keep warm, better than the soft top and I think it is quieter than my soft top. Mine has a thin foam "headliner" in it that helps with sound. When soldering new spade terminals and the like onto the end of old wires, the copper wire always seems to be black. I take this to be oxidisation and try to remove as much as possible before soldering. Using a resin cored solder the flux does not seem to clean the wire effect ively. crimping surely just traps the oxidisation between terminal and the copper, so not an effective joint. Scotchloks are not an option IMO. Any thoughts / recommendations? What is the cause of this blackening of th e wires? Is it due to a bad earth (ground)... MORE
when you turn on the ignition. tach, fuel pump, wipers, brake stop light, reversing lights, heater fan..... The fault must be on the "downstream" side of the fuse for it to blow, so it is likely to be one of those, or the wiring to them. Some of these are switchable: lights, wipers, fan etc so if they are switched off when the fuse blows then it may be one of the non- switched items although it could still be a damaged wire between fuse block and switch.
