Hi Vigil, The only 1275's with a potential problem with it in racing trim are the very first ones with the thin flange block. However, they're still pretty good but also pretty scarce! All the others that came in Spridgets are essentially the same. All the rear drive car engines are different than the mini ones. I might know of a 1275 engine in the San Diego area and can check that out tomorrow. Let me know if you're interested and I'll call him in the morning. Anybody have any experience running BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on a Spridget or other car? I'm looking at some tire options, and there's not that much out there in 60 series. I know they're not ultra high performance, but I'm not looking for a full comp Auto-X tire, and I've never got caught in the rain with the BE since I got it back on the road in 2000. You'll get a better job if you do the prep, at least to the point of removing all the trim, lights, windshield, etc. they're not going to do that; they just mask around, and you get a nicer job if the car is has everything reasonable removed. I think you'd be well advised to take the paint to them, along with the appropriate hardeners and reducers. Good paint is expensive, and may cost than the entire cost of a MAACO job. They should be able to do the rest of the prep, masking and spraying okay, but they're not... MORE
Aside from Margaret's suggestion of the Heritage certificate, you can probably find the original colour on hard-to-get-at places such as up underneath the dashboard top area, inside the transmission tunnel or inside the heater ducts in the footwells; all places that are unlikely to get repainted in a casual paint job. For the factory colour code, there's pretty much only one of each shade for any given year of manufacture, and this year can be obtained from the chassis number. Duncan, I know a remodeling construction guy and I noticed that when he was working on a house, he would roll out some kind of thin plastic sheet, perhaps 4 or 6 feet wide, that had a light sticky glue on one side. It would stick to carpet and floors and not slide around but not sticky enough to be a problem pulling it up after the job was cleaned up. Kept the rugs and floors from paint drops and dirt etc. The backing was about as sticky as a yellow post-it note and I think it was clear... MORE

Robert, wash your mouth out. To start with, NO MGB is a sports car, it's just a convertable. A tourer. A "boulavardier". An MGB convertable is no more a sports car than a Mercedes convertable or a Mustang convertable. And an MGBGT even less so. I have owned an MGBGT. G'day Steve These packers were used "as required" on all Sprites and Midgets with wind-up windows, not just the rubber-nose cars. They are made out of a compressed fibre board not dis-similar to the backing on all the trim panels. They are approx 1/10" thick, and you use as many as you need to fill the gap. I have a few NOS ones, but it is very easy to make your own out of whatever material is close at hand. No everything is the same. The only thing that changes is the stick position and of course which are you stick out the window :) After some practice it is quite easy to swap back and fore between LHD and RHD cars though saying that I drive the RHD on the left side of the road when in the UK. how about if you only fit the inner one of each pair of bushes in each leg of the arm (if you see what I mean!), then when it is on the car, fit the steel sleeve and the bolt, then fit the second bush and sleeve through the hole in the chassis mounting. You might then need to use a screw clamp to squeeze the bush in before you can get the washer and nut on. It's tight, but it should go on this way. David "David Jacobs" 35699... MORE
Spence - Guess that would be me, progress has slowed due to cold weather (hard to heat the garage with a small space heater) and the holidays and all, the frame strengthening is almost finished and I'm gathering parts to begin construction on the headers & steering. I've finally removed a complete motor from a donor car, up until now I've been using a junk block and heads to fab the mounts, I hope to finish the frame rails in the next couple of weeks and get the motor & trans back in the car, I'll take a few... Does anyone know if there is anything i SHOULD or SHOULD NOT do. When cutting out the old rear arches and replacing them. What I want to do is remove the old arch but i dont know where is the best place to cut for welding a better one on. The secondhand one has been cut off from the hood section so there is a lot to play with. The other thing that concerns me is the weakening of the body when removing such a large piece. The wheels were originally painted with silver (aluminum pigment) enamel. Some of them were a very bright silver, and others were a duller color, similar to MGA. I don't know whether this relates to the sequence, or the manufacturer, as there are two manufacturing methods also. Some BE wheels had the center spot welded to the rim, and some are riveted. In any case, shot blasting might be a bit coarse, and I'd use glass bead blasting. Modern auto paint (acylic enamel with urethane additive, or a base/clear system) would be nice, and powder coating would be even nicer.... MORE

Yeah... California has really gone over the top on classic car "emissions". It's all part of a political agenda in this particular respect, obviously. Has nothing to do with air polution really. I mean my Vizardized '74 1340 almost made it by CT emissions and was only "out" by 50 ppm hydrocarbons or less than .05 CO, depending upon which side of the correct ignition timing we chose to go. And this thing had a VP3 cam, 45DCOE and got 90+hp to the rear wheels. When properly tuned and maintained, most emissions non-equipped vehicles can get by the criteria... MORE
Well, my windshield search is finally over. I just won one off of ebay. The funny thing is, the shipping is going to be more than the cost of the windshield assembly. Oh well. Yes it is not new, but it is certainly cheaper than new and also it will be better than the cracked one that I have. Resistance is a matter of extent. Some is good ("sparkier" spark :)...too much is no good. Remember the old Lucas resistor "caps" fitted to the spark plug end of their stock wire set-up?? They are only on cars originally fitted with inertia real seat belts. When I came to repairing the inner rear arches on mine I changed the mountings for of the inertia reel belts. as my car originally had static belts. Had I known what a pain they were going to be to find I would not have bothered, but its too late now. The bracket bolt onto the side of the inner wheel arch, then go to the top of the arch and have a bend so the top part lays flat on the top of the arch, and... MORE

Hi Guys, I decided that I do not plan on using my Hardtop for my 73 midget. It need to be cleaned since it sat in a desert for 17 years, the rear plastic window is pretty shot, and the rubber is ugly, but there are no cracks, etc. I have it in storage now, and I would love to have it go for a good cause.
