I forgot to add a 'welcome to the list', Erich. someone on the list can probably help you narrow down the approximate age of your 'new' car with a little bit of detective work, for example, has it got wind-up windows or sidescreens? 948/1098/1275 or 1500 engine? combined brake/clutch master cylinder or separate? single or dual circuit brakes? chrome or rubber bumpers? if chrome, are they wide or narrow? is the hood a packaway type or fastened to the back of the cockpit? and so on. Thanks David, It really is a mess of a car, it looks like a Mk III but previous owner/ owners were very creative. It has the chrome strip down the hood/bonnet and down the sides and it also has the sill chrome strips and the Midget badges on the sill????? I think they liked chrome.... Wind-up windows and a fixed top at the back like my 1275. It has no engine, so I've been toying with the idea of doing something craz y with it. Anyone have a spare Honda S2000 engine? Whenever i drive my car i inevitably end up samcking me knee on the window winder... Does anyone know of an ellecy window kit that fits the midget? Or i suppose i can just wrap the winder in foam? :) Cheers Sean. "s_j_pittaway" 23096... MORE
I have the same problem with my window crank. My solution was quick and painless. Wind down the window, unscrew the crank and position it in a comfortable place and re-attach. It worked for me. Rob C 75 Midget (now running) robbiesg@... 23095... MORE
Wood & Pickett do a kit for the Mini, it could probably be adapted. Moss and /or Minispares should sell it in the UK. Whether you want to get rid of the manual winder is another thing. Remember, electric windows always fail in the down position just before a period of heavy rain. I guess you could take the handle off and leave it in the boot. jeremy.cogman@... 23090... MORE
Electric Windows???? How much torque and HP do you think you are dealing with here? And your life is not complicated enough, already? Heh, heh, heh, heh!! It is very hard to get a drivers license in Germany and to get a car registered. Which means that they have good drivers in safe cars. It is truly a pleasure to drive the autobaun, but you had best have an eye in the mirror for the fast movers. Unlike America where we had might as well give drivers licenses away in cereal boxes. Morning folks. This is sort of a poll to get an idea of what Spridgets are currently the most collectable / desired and their current market value. Realizing of course you can't really put a price on insanity . . . uh . . . I mean spridget love / masochism. We have all suffered a few of their engineering quirks. Hi, Don.... Larry Miller lives out on the "left coast" as well and tells me it's so hot out there that he's not doing any Spritely top down driving at all. Up here in the Northeast we just got a cold front that went by after a couple of 95F days with humidity to match. So it's around 80 or so with humidty not too bad. And we deserve it after a rotten winter and virtually no Spring, to speak of. Finally good enough to finish up some bodywork for spot painting, maybe in a week or so....then maybe... MORE
Thanks! Come to think of it, the hi beams didn't work... The wires are together and they run down the passenger side, long enough to stretch about a foot out the front of the car. The two wires are together in the mix. They are male & female bullet type connectors. Thanks you've been helpful! The green/purple wire though ? All the flashers worked (even with it unattached) It wouldn't surprise me a bit though, as many 'accessories' that were in the vehicle and its proximity to the headlight wire that maybe at one time or another the car... Is the wiring loom installed in the car? if so, where is the general location of these mystery wires/connectors? In the absence of the above info, BS AU7a is the standard for wiring colour codes and says: Green/Purple - Stop lamp switch to stop lamps (or stop lamp switch to lamp failure unit) this will probably have a female spade connector at the switch end and a male bullet to connect to the short bit of wire at the lamp end. of course it could also be Light Green/Purple, in which case its Flasher unit to flasher warning light... I have a 74 MG Midget, I already know it's been pieced together from SEVERAL different year cars, but I have run all the wires down and come up with two that have no where to go. One is Blue with a female connector on it, the other is Green/Purple with a male connector on it. I have checked the wiring diagrams in the Hayes manual and another English manual (it's red can't think of who it's by) and neither of them show these wires. There are two possibilities in my mind, one being horns (none installed) the other... MORE

But of course in the UK most of these have different names, and some - like the "sidemarker lamps" don't exist at all! And a "quarter light" as in the original thread topic, is nothing to do with Mr Lucas. The term light refers to a window or pane of glass - as in Elizabethan buildings with "leaded lights", "skylights", "fanlight", "borrowed lights" etc. Remember these are LBCs. Actually, I think everyone should stick with the British naming of parts and drop all references to hoods when you mean bonnets, rotors when you mean discs, fenders when you mean... MORE

Could be a pressure switch to connect to a light on the dashboard which tells you when the filter gets clogged. You probably deserve what you get if you leave the oil that long perhaps ............ Nelson I think it is for the blocked filter warning light ( the red light just above the oil pressure gauge ). A 62 Sprite should have this light the later cars do not so a spin on filter head from a later car will not have this connection but I guess an adapter for use on an earlier car should. I just purchased a used spin-on oil filter adapter and have a question about it. On the top there is a push on electrical connector and I am curious as to what it is used for. I'm guessing that it is connected to the on-board computer in newer versions of the LBC's and would tell the driver that the oil is dirty and it is time to change it. There hasn't been any mention about Larry Macy's wedding on Sunday! I was there and a good time was had by all. Larry arrived in the passenger's seat of his '79 Midget, in top hat and tails. His driver was best man, Reg Kennedy. Of course, Larry caught his tail (coat tail) in the car door, so he sported a nice greasy spot all day. Larry and Theresa were married in their back yard.
