Listers - I posted a message a few weeks back about attempting to get a proper title for my 75 Midget, without much luck... Yahooooiiiieeeee ! The title arrived in the mail a couple of days ago! After 4 calls to the local and state DMV offices, I finally talked to someone who new what was going on and gave me the direct line of the lady who handles such things, sent me the proper papers and local police officer inspected the VIN numbers signed the papers and bingo.... David Aha ! Well thats the other way round. My first piece of advice to you then is to do the inner and outer sills *before* you put in the new floor. Body rebuilds on monocoque cars need to be done around the door gaps - there's a possiblity you'll lock the car into a new shape by welding in the floor before you've done the inner and outer sills and then find the door won't fit properly, or you have problems getting the door to fit. Ben... I always had a hard time fitting the conv. top "cover" over my folded down top as well. Very "strained", tight fit. I finally just used the tonneau cover, putting a soft terry cloth towel between the tonneau fabric and the top to avoid any chance of the tonneau fabric from scratching the plastic window(s) should they come into contact....and the hell with the "cover"!! :):) Cap'n. Well, here I am again....Thanks to all who responded to my annoying questions....esp. Cap'n Bob and Frank C. The three webbing pieces that attach the rear two support bars together have completely deteriorated and need to be replaced. Question: Is this webbing needed at all? 850 Fiat Spyder!!!! Almost bought one of these sweet, little LIC's back when I was young and joyfully insane! :) What a sweet LIC....an absolute joy to drive in terms of "handling". About as fast (maybe!:) as a 948 Sprite but just as much of a ball to drive!! These neat little machines sounded utterly fantastic with an Abarth exhaust. I have a '76 midget with the weber conversion (New carb). Car runs fine under normal use (35,000 miles), but sometimes when idling at lights, the engine will "choke up", and start to falter. Revving the engine will clear it (accompanied by black smoke until cleared). This also can happen doing short stop-start errands in town. I'll get back to the car and it will require full throttle cranking, will misfire and eventually clear once I've given it some revs (accompanied again by the black smoke). Hi I am in the process of restoring a 1965 MK III Sprite and have bought two new floor panels (I don't think the one piece panel is available any more) I have started cutting back the passenger side floor and have struck sound metal a few inches in from the inner sill and plan to cut my new panel down and weld it to the sound original metal. I have read that the correct way to do this is to overlap the old and new metal and weld a seam top and bottom, the only problem is at... MORE
Thanks for your replies After a bit of fiddling with the colortune the problem is now nearly sorted. The rear carb is running a bit rich, but not so bad as to start tinkering. Its mostly dark blue with a bit of yellow. The front carb was running pretty weak and took about 6 clicks to get it a darker shade of blue and is now about as right as I can make it. I've just taken it for another test run and is a lot better althought the exhaust is beginning to smell like it's running rich again!... MORE
Surely if the direction of force (and resultant movement) of the spring eye is below the shackle top pivot, then the shackle will take up it's correct position under load. To do otherwise, the spring eye would have to be moving towards a point above the shackle top pivot, and this would be unlikely to happen unless the springs were out of shape to the extreme. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". I do have air ride in the front of my 85 supercharged Toyota MR2 and Tokico 10 way adjustable shocks on all 4 corners and the car rides surprisingly very... MORE
Just got a new convertible top for the 73 B. It went on MUCH easier than on the Midget, though I am not sure how to tuck the edges around the header rail. There is a little flap that folded out from under the top, and a multi-ply flap that is on the same section as the "window fly". I'm not quite sure how all that gets tucked in, and the old top was too rotted to tell for sure. Can someone take a picture of the edge of the header rail, where that little plastic block with the... Strange one this , I suspect it 's not too important. MG book shows concave towards the outside of the engine i.e. Front of car. The Maestro A series 1300 engine shows a slight centre dish concave towards the gear, but the outer rim edge of the thrower is like a normal washer, flat. My Haynes Mini book - (all A series engines) shows the same type of thrower but with an 'F' marked on one side. Chris and Margaret, You can tighten the two screws on the underside of the mirror casing. That should help. If not, then you need to remove the glass, dismantlle the ball pivot, wrap some coarse sandpaper around it and re-assemble. In Alans 72 photo album see LBG FRONT initial prime. The midget now looks worse than this as I've decided to remove all the paint and rust from inside the engine compartment. Did you know that under the battery tray is not painted with a top coat? It gives you a good idea of how we struggle for space in the UK, this photo is AFTER extending the garage to create more room. I'll be flying out to Newburg, NY this weekend to drive the MGB back. It's running well, so there should be no issues. Midget/Sprite-o-files, In the process of getting the Midget back on the road after the looooong winter (will it ever get warm around here? (MA)) I think I will finally install a top.....I've lost 35 lbs, so now I think I could actually get in and out of the car with the top up! I've not had one on the car for 4 years! Besides, as all of you know, these cars should not have hats! But, in the event of rain, I would have some protection....so..... I don't think so, Tom. Considering what you paid, if it's in the decent mechanical shape claimed, I think you did OK for what you paid, personally. I owned a de-smogged '72 until a certain girl ran a Stop sign one night and her insurance co. put me into a new Fiat 1/9. Pull the head and shave it to bring the Comp. Ratio up to no more than 9.5-1, (mine was 10-1 but we had "manly" gas available at that time!:) and purchase a set of 1.75 HS4's suitably calibrated as in Stage 1 of the Special Tuning... MORE

Nelson - Know exactly the stuff your talking about, a freind had the exterior of his brick building blasted and had about a dozen bags left over, I grabbed them before they went into the dumpster and have them gathering dust in my garage.
