My horns don't work, The car is an early 1500 midget with the horn push in the centre of the steering wheel. The slipring contact is live, but the steering column shaft is not earthed. If I use a wire to connect the slip ring connector to the shaft the horn won't work, however if I jumper it to the outer part of the column it does work. Please forgive a Newbie's ignorance... I just joined this group as I just purchased a 1968 MG Midget. I'm now fumbling around trying to locate a few items I will be needing for the car. Here are two questions for you. 1) Where in the devil can I find 145SR13 tires and tubes?! Special Order, some place like Coker Tire. Check the classic tire dealers a t swap meets 2) Where can I find a decent hood and tonneau at a reasonable price? eBay!! I found a 67 tonneau and a white top for our 68 on eBay. 3)... MORE

Big American Car... Not too big actually. I am having trouble making up my mind on whether I sould buy a 1973 Corvette convertible I went and looked at yesterday. He is asking $14,500 but is negotiable. The car has a new crate 350 with 50 miles on it. Otherwise, it is a decnt 20 footer, with no big problems, but numerous small wear items, some small scratches and such. The tires are 10 year old Uniroyal, with great tread, but some weather cracking. If I buy it, I will have to replace them. One owner car with 107,000... MORE
Thank you Bob Still not sure what to look for. I have been visiting the main Marine Supply Stores'sites, but have not seen anything that can be used for this purpose. Anyway, the problem is solved now. I used an ordinary grease pump, filled some oil into it, pumped a few stroke in order to get out the remaining grease, and voila, I managed to get the necessary amount of EP 90 oil into the steering rack. Thanks for all the comments. Everyone was pretty musch right - it's the oil filter sensor wire and dash warning light. We had replaced thar damend old oil filter housing with a new spin-on and lost the reference. No sooner had I posted this message and ran back to the garage, my Dad figured it out. I'll be asking you guys soon for ideas on transporting the ol' A-H from El Paso to Dallas TX. We're just staring tomake plans, and so far folks like Uhaul haven't been very helpful (the A-H is too narrow for their auto transport).... MORE

Hi Rob & Doug, Doing all you suggest, Rob is well and good, but those are items unrelated to any blow-by problems. That was seemingly the original problem. All your suggestions do is ensure that the lubrication system is top notch. Seems like a lot of work to do and completely skirt the initial issue. My rear seal kit will work with the crankshaft just being in good condition. BUT, If bearing clearance or blowby is excessive, it's not very effective. G'day Vince Were does this yellow/brown wire start and finish. That would help determine what it is for. But I think Chris might be correct - it's the oil filter warning light. Inside the oil filter housing is a spring-loaded ball bearing. When the filter gets blocked (cos you haven't changed it for 17 years) the pressure causes the ball bearing to move against the spring thus opening a by-pass passage for the oil. On the outside of the filter housing is a spade terminal. Power runs from the ignition circuit, through the light bulb behind the red light... MORE
Folks, my Dad and I are trying to trace a lone yellow/brown(YN)wire. It's remained disconnected during the restore and has not affected any other electrical system (positive ground)or function. To be clear, this is not the brown/yellow (NY) wire to the alternator. We can't seem to find reference to the YN wire in the shop manual and have no reason to believe this is nothing but stock. What we really have here, is a "situational awareness" problem!! :):) Including this in your "cockpit scan" as you drive about the premisi is just part of normal piloting, Chris. It's like checking oil pressure, coolant temperature, rpm, "groundspeed", etc. from time to time, as you drive along. A Spridget bodyshell has appeared in the local scrapyard. Very little left of it but enugh to identify it as a wind-down window model. But it has Drum front brakes? It has been used for autocrossing. Would drum brakes be less liable to wet and mud when autocrossing? Perhaps they have been retro-fitted Anyway, the front kingpins and shockers seem to have been replaced recently and are probably worth getting. David, I think someone else posted the speeds for the 4.22. As for acceleration, just take the % difference of 4.22 and 3.90 and figure that close to the same percent of an increase in acceleration will happen with the other diff. Perhaps like adding 20 more horse power, but at the sacrifice of the same percentage of top end speed. (Nothing for free in this world.)
