Hood Frame Cleaned it well with Fantastic and steel wool, then sprayed again with Fantastic and washed it down with water. After it dried, sprayed it with a couple of coats of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Black. Beautiful! :) Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 26992... MORE
Because that is what I have got! When the original dynamo died at about 24,000 miles, the garage (yes, they did the servicing at that stage) put in a much bigger dynamo that has done a good job ever since. Have to say I do notice the divverence between the lights on the MG (ZR160) and the MG (Midget) R "Roger Stinson" 26937... MORE
The new blue /white bulbs appear a lot brighter than the H7 (halogen) ones they replaced. They are in my dailyrunner (new shape Rover 214 (like a Honda civic)) with stupid slitty headlamps. I noticed an immediate improvement using the Phillips premium bulbs. Generally, for best illumination, circular lights are best with of course a true parabolic reflector. The MG version of the 214 has two sets of circular headlamps surprisingly. 60W main beam I believe. If you do have glass lenses in the headlamps then a step up in wattage is also preferable , I can't ever remember... MORE
Lori I bought a 65 for restoration back in May, here on the civilised side of the pond (that should be good for a few replies) for the equivalent of $1000. Mine was a runner and was on the road in in March 2002, I would not have wanted to drive it though the floor was almost completely rotted out, rear spring hangers about to collapse no outer sills and inner sills rotted through. Are there any tricks to getting the door glass back in the "tracks"? The seals have been replaced in the channels and that might be the problem as in too thick on the bottom, no smart &ss comments on that one! I tried loosening all the bolts but the front channel/vent window will not fit. Does anyone have a suggestion. Almost done with the car, after all this work this is a pain in the butt. Thanks. I was digging through my spares bin and found I have one of these. I was wondering if someone could tell me the approximate date of manufacture of this particular style of reverse lamp. If it is appropriate enough, it is another item for my car. I am in the process of cleaning it up now, and found the bulb burned out and locked in the socket. I had to destroy the bulb to remove it. Eeg The door gaps you describe sound about right. The the gap at the top of the door where it meets the scuttle is very tight, likewise the gap where the door meets the B post. The largest gap you will have, which is about 1/4 of an inch is where the front of the door meets the outer A skin panel. I guess this is to look visually the same as the gap between the rear of the front wing where it meets the front of the A post skin. It is possible to pack out the catch... MORE
Nigel (and all others), I did take some precautions against sagging of the body: - Before putting the new sill in place I fitted the door - Didn't fit nice (body had sagged a bit) - Supported the cross-member with a jack and knocked a piece of timber between the a-post and lock plate to correct a few millimeters (0.12") - Then I welded a tube in place to keep the desired door-gap I'm sure you're right that I did it the wrong way round! I saw it and it doesn't make sense. Ed's ranting actually makes a bit more sense, as the MGC/Austin 3 litre 'new C-Series' engine was supposedly a replacement for the one fitted to Austin Westminsters and 6 cyl Big Healeys so it follows that it would be the same colour. But it still doesn't tell the whole story, as you'd have expected all previous Spridget engines to be painted this same light metallic green/gray instead of the plain darker green as used on Morris Minors etc; alternatively why didn't they carry on with the original green? Ed I didn't get it wrong at all, I don't know why you're getting so excited. It may well be 'officially' called Austin-Healey light green, but the reason it's also known as MGC metallic green, is because at the factory when they painted the MGC engines they used this colour, and it also seemed logical that they also paint the Midget engines with it as well, note the way round that is. Ed, please note here that we're talking MG as in MG Midget and MGC, nothing at all to do with Austin Healey, hence the colour being known... MORE
Exactly, Alan... "They" can see "you" better....not just a matter of you seeing better..absolutely. I have no idea as to equal power providing better lighting with halogen but wouldn't surprise me a bit...better "medium" I'll betcha. Once I tried Halogens, I never gave "going back" a thought. OK, so, let's have a wash-up session here. I have 2x FT6's that are screwed. I have a '64 Sprite with Dynamo/Generator. No point getting halogens, so where to I get standard replacement glass? (UK) I only use the car in summer really so light brighteness isnt top prioirty. Max "Max" 26838... MORE
Eeg I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you've done it the wrong way round. It's not always easy to know which bits come first, but any major structural bodywork on one of these cars has to happen around the door gaps and door frame. The correct sequence is to first repair the door frame then refit a new skin. Now you have a correct door to use as a template for getting the door gaps correct. Once you have the door gaps correct, you repair the inner A post, and inner sill. Now you have a... MORE

Ok...I get the Castrol 20w50 and put it in the engine. Crank her up and she hums just sweeeeet. So, I go out to drive her. When I push in the clutch she idles down way low like something's dragging on the engine and the little red ignition light comes on. I give her a little gas and we seem to be fine. Also, the use of a "relay" will take the heavier load of halogens off the switch itself. Relay is a good idea , I thought they were fitted as standard. Specially for high beam. I also thought by using Halogen gas (or Quartz iodine ) you got a brighter light for the same amount of electrical power needed for the old bulbs . I stand to be corrected of course. - Having just replaced ONLY the bulbs in my daily car with 'bluer brighter bulbs' with no ill effects , except a lighter wallet. Just that I can see... MORE

Tom... As I understand it, about 5k for the whole shebang but you already have good doors and other useful parts. So the only correct way of doing this is to email or phone for exactly what YOU need as I believe the tub may come in different stages of completion. (If there are any listers who know more about this, please feel free to chime in) As you know, you can never stop rust, though you can slow it down. David *chuckle* Reasonably being the operative word here. If the windscreen surround screws are seized it can be a bloody nightmare to do.
