I would like to relocate the windshield wiper motor on my 73 midget. It's on the left inner fender right now. I notice from pictures on Ed's web site that BE wiper motors are up next to the pedal box. Can I use a different cable and re-locate my motor? Anyone tried this? I pulled off the old slave cylinder and had it resleeved. When I took it off, it was very difficult to remove the upper bolt due to the small amount of room (no room for socket - only turn about one flat at a time) and the fact that the bolt was so long that there was less than 1/8 inch of room between the bolt and the frame when it was all the way unscrewed. I went out and bought a ratcheted box wrench, but I was wondering if anyone had any other tips. Maybe I could use... MORE

stewart you are correct to use 35 amp fuse.i am nearly sure the fuse in question protects indicators,fuel gauge and heater blower and operates when ignition switch is on.i had a similar problem on my 1977 1500 midget and found the problem was caused by worn wires on the indicator stalk shorting. to rectify,unscrew four screws that secure the cowls to the steering column remove lower cowl then move upper cowl in anti-clockwise direction round steering column,depress horn slip-ring contact and ease the cowl off the column.remove clip holding the switch wiring harness to the steering column and disconect... Stewart, if it's the same as late 1275 ones, then the front fuse protects the stuff that's not controlled by the ignition switch i.e. is live all the time - horns, interior and boot lamps, cigar lighter. It should be rated at 17 amps continuous, 35 amp blow. Both horns and courtesy lamps have permanently live feeds (purple wire) with the earth side being switched, so a purple wire is a good start for finding the likely culprit. See what works when the fuse is new and then what doesn't work after the fuse blows. Check those items. 35 amps is a lot. Some things draw a lot, like the head lights, the horn and others draw little like running lights, radio, wiper motor, etc. you could get a used amp meter at a surplus store (might cost 5 to 10 dollars) that reads about 10 amps full scale and run each item though it and measure how much it draws. Add them up and see how close to 35 you are. Safety margin should be 20... MORE
G'day Do you have a roll bar in your Midget? If you don't, then don't even think about fitting the harness. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information. I have a 1977 Midget. It has the rostyle wheels. I think I would like to refurbish these back to their original appearance. I know the trim rings and small hubcap were chrome. But, were the wheels simply black and silver-grey paint? I have showed pictures I found on the internet to my friend who does auto body painting. I recognize this is one of those thological deputes that have been debated for years, like wht fluid shouold I use in my dashpots, 20 weight or atf. The fact is that my engine is still within the tolerences specified in the haynes manual. That is it is only .001 larger than stock. This being teh case there is a slight ridge at athe top that needed to be taken off to safely remove the pistons. I was on the Midget/Sprite Club stand and there was a White Midget with Red interior and an amazing Roll Bar. It was covered in red material and had a wind shield. Well the SoCal weathermen were wrong again! It was suppose start raining again yesterday and today - but all the rain stayed north in Los Angeles County. Orange County is sunny, mid-70s. So I decided to drive the bugeye up to a client meeting today . I had just replaced the RC40 muffler (riped off on freeway) with a cheaper Thrush Cherry bomb from NAPA. I liked the sound of the RC40 (throaty but smooth) - but I like the Cherry bomb much better (slightly louder, definitely raspier). Kinda the difference between white wine and Irish Whisky. I have one origonal speaker and an origonal radio installed in the radio console under the dash in front of the gearshift. I can hear it over the engine just fine, but my knee kept hitting the volume knob so that now the rado functons but I have to jiggle the knob to get it working. I just installed two more speakers in holes placed in the masonite bulkhead behind the seats (the one that forms a barrier between the trunk and the cabin) that were cut before I owned it. Hello, I own a 1967 midget and am thinking about installing a sound system. I have read that to do this i would have to change the polarity of the car (or insulate the system- but thats a fire hazard I understand). THanks for all your help I am going to remove both rear wings and replace them. I managed to get a new passenger side one for =A325 but still need a new drivers side. I have a secondhand one which i will play with but i would prefer a new one. The doors i was goning to remove to restore allthough not that bad. Ian - I do not believe the doors, or any other piece bolted to the car, are structurally necessary or else, over time, you would not be able open the doors due to body sag. I refuse to warranty this statement, but as long as you support the frame in a fashion similar to the suspension, the frame should not sag with the doors removed. Hi all, I want to raise the midget of the ground on axle stands and remove the doors and rear wings. I have removed the interior so i can brace it with a piece of 4 x 2 but was wondering if anyone had a better way. I dont want the car to collapse in the middle once i start taking it apart. I have visions of the hole car sagging and the doors not going back on etc. My idea is to get a piece of 4x2 and a sissor jack, place the 4x2 in the middle of... MORE
If it's a standard A+ head, the valves are 1.3" Inlet/1.15" Exhaust; or if it's from an MG Metro it should have had 1.4" inlets. With no other changes, your AAC needles should be somewhere close, or you could try ACE ones (a bit richer in the mid range but leaner at the top end), but in any event, a trip to the rolling road is well worthwhile to get the car set up. I rebuild mine and consider myself a C- mechanic. After jacking up the R side, it is accessed thru the large rubber plug on the R side of the tunnel. For me it was just time consuming since you'll have to bleed afterwards. One trick I used was to put a piece of plastic wrap (rubber banded) around the top of the master before you open the bleed nipple on the slave, as this will keep most of the fluid in the system instead of on your garage floor.
