I can't keep track of who said what.... Yes, David, it is getting confusing with today's modern "running lights" along with modern fore and aft "sidelights" being thrown in to the mix. Hmm... Logical use supports the term "ventilators" but I never had the lights on when I went parking. Matter of fact, I tried to be as inconspicuous as possible under these particular circumstances. I did have them on when the car was being driven on the road in early dusk before the sun set. Back then, however, there weren't cars running around in sunny daylight hours with today's modern "running lights" on, activated by the ignition key...'cause they didn't have these, back then. "Aren't quarter-lights" No, Bob....they're not. You're wrong and that's all there is to it! (How's THAT for a rotten attitude!!:) They're called running lights as are the ones under the little red lensi in the back that operate full time when you've got the switch on. ****but***** Or, we know them as side lights even though they're at the front ! Just for the record, not saying who is right or wrong, I grew up with the small lamps called "parking lights" at that time, in the fifties and sixties you could turn them on during dusk hours while driving instead of the full headlights (that is not legal anymore) or while parked alongside the road so other cars could see you. Flashers have since taken over that function. On a bugeye/frogeye the small round lenses below the stop lights would have been called parking lights, with the dual function of use as turn signals. David, in my parts manual (origninal B.M.C.) and in my Factory workshop manual, they are called ventilators. Incidentaly, they are also called ventilators in the original sales literature for the Mk2 Midget. The things you call "Vent windows", we would call "quarterlights" in the UK. Wind wings are rarely used in the UK, but I would recognise them by that name, although more often called wind deflectors Guy "Guy Weller" 22897... MORE

"Are wind wings...." "Windows 101" ! :) No, Dave. Quarter lights are "windows" located between side and rear windows on a convertible/roadster soft or hard-top. They can be soft or hard "plastic" or glass. They can be openable and are a permanent part of the part in which they appear, this part not necessarily a permanent part on the car. Hi, The bulb for the flasher unit, according to my Brown & Gammons catalogue covering Midget 1275 & 1500 and Sprite Mk 4 is part no. 57H382, but I'm sure that any bulb of the right rating with the same fixing method would suffice. As for the green cover on the dash, I can't find it in any of the catalogues or manuals I have. Perhaps you could use a piece of green perspex and glue it in place? Good Morning Spridget Land, The right turn signal lamp on my 74's dashboard is burn out and the lens with the little arrow symbol is missing. Darn if I can find a replacement lamp or the little lens cover in any of my catalogues. It would seem like a minor thing but not having a flashing indicator when I am making a right turn is an annoyance and an obsession. Anyone have one or know a source? Its not like you can hear a the flasher unit when doing sixty on the freeway with 16 wheelers on both sides... MORE

Yes...but..the job is done correctly and it's a "one off" deal....and the seats are securely buttoned down (as they should be) which means YOU are securely buttoned down assuming you use your seat belt. See....your flying out of the car at the speed of light on a tight turn (I mean, all the screaming, swearing and everything) is going to attract a lot of the "wrong" kind of attention...could give LBC's a bad name....not good...:):) Cap'n. Yes... Cats are very "natural". They do what is best for themselves, usually (but not always) and certainly never intentionally at human expense. Hi Bob, The restrictor inserted in the hose from the oil separator is a modification and not a stock part rather a jerry rig piece of a standard plumbing compression fitting he used to restrict the line, so it was not an official California set up. All I know to do is return it to the direct hose and see how it runs. Although curiosity leads me to wonder why he did it. Once again faced with mystery PO modifications. These have to do with the emission controls. First, particularly on California cars, one must find a proper diagram of the system, something the weak of heart should not attempt from a Haynes Manual. The car in question is a 74 Midget I assume with a stock 1275 First discrepancy . . . The manual, if correct, shows a hose from the valve cover to one of three hose connections on top of the evaporation canister, check . . . that is there. "Thanks Bob & Allen for the education" (You owe me big time, Don May!!:):) Assuming it's a stock 1275 you are looking at Don, the correct model of the 45DCOE for the set-up is 45DCOE13. The DCOE is my favorite performance carb. I got mine initially when the shafts of the stock SU's my PO'd '74 started leaking air and needed rebuilding. I figured what the hell and sprung for the 45DCOE tuned for the stock 1275, instead. Glad I did. Worked just fine right out of the box, with the addition of a "deep" K&N filter. Subsequently, the... Hello Folks I don't know if anyone has ever tried this but I started using lemon Pledge on my 2000 TJ's plastic windows and it worked great. So I thought why not try it on my 71 and 64 plastic windows. It really cleans up the plastic and will remove small scratches. Plus you get that wonderful lemon scent. Having installed power windows in multiple LBC's I can tell you there is only one type of power mechanism out there that will fit the door. And that IS NOT INSIDE the door. It's a power 'pod' that attaches on the door panel and drives the original crank handle. "ptegler@cablespeed" 22712... MORE
