Hello there, My girlfriend has a MkII AH Sprite that's in prety poor condition. The restorer who has the car at the moment has recommended that it be rebodied but it seems that you can't get new Sprite MkII bodies so he is now proposing to fit a MkIV(?) body and all the extra that that requires such as door locks and winding windows. My keys suck. They suck so bad, I think it would be difficult to make a good copy of my keys. Something about a copy of crap is still crap? I think you would be better off simply buying a later model car. Why put al l that money into a 62 that will no longer be a 62? The value of the 62 is because it does not have later added on wind up windows and has a cleaner s tyle. Do not know about Great Britain but here you can buy a running 62 Spr ite/Midget for far less than what you would spend ending up with a car that has no value as a collector car and is neither a 62 or a 67. I have lived in London for a spell, about four months, and visited Great Britain on many occasions and have British friends who visit me on occasion. A history of British cars . . . 60 bugeye Sprite, 63 Sprite, TR4, 62 Midget, 73 Midget, now with a 60 bugeye bonnet, 74 Midget, and a 69 Midget parts car I have always noticed a propensity for the British to classify information in far greater increments that we in the US. Hey group. I think its time to pass my beloved 62 midget onto someone else. But only after Don May gets first refusal!... I'm not in a panic to move it, but i would like to see it go to a good home. Its photos are in the album section under 62 midget... its an original 948 side curtain model with a very new (under two weeks) rebuilt head. it has very nice seats, good dash, everything works, including the windshiled squirters. the hand brake needs adjustment and it could do with a brake bleeding or the very least... Hello all, my Dad's '72 Midget is stuck in reverse. I had been trying to get the reverse light switch to work and had some measured success, but now things have gone horribly awry. The little plunger that pops up to activate the light switch doesn't seem to be popping up anymore and the little jewel won't shift at all. When I let out the clutch it'll back up just fine. It seems as though the first-second gate is working, but when you stick the lever in either position, the transmission locks up solidly. The lever won't move over... MORE
And Great to drive over at night. Did it in my Mk3 Midget one April, on a London to Edinburgh overnight run. You can really get the speed up, as you can see when there are any other cars coming from the opposite direction (the lights from several miles away is a dead give-away!!) Daytime is a little trickier, though, especially if there is another car too close in front, and you need to make a run at a steep bit. Colin No that statement "Bugeye's never came with British Racing Green as a colour option." is not 'incorrect'. As far as I am concerned Bug/Frogeyes made in England at the factory either for export or home market use did not come with British Racing Green as an OE factory painted colour option. Neither did the Bug/Frogeye's that were sent to Australia leave this country painted as British Racing Green. Jim, I just did this yesterday for the third time in a month. No big deal. I have a thick blanket I lay across the engine, my son lays on top of the blanket and can reach down to the bottom of the inner well. Need to be VERY careful what you lay on. Not a big deal. Hi, I can't find anything on dash pads for a pre 1968 midget MKII - it is just a simple cylinrical shape all the way across - does anyone have a source for these? Also, where do people get interior carpets/panels & seat covers if they are restoring to the correct original colors? Moss is very limitted and does not have the original colors that came standard with the car. I purchased from Moss2 adaptor #235-875. In taking off the old canister, I found the adapter sits real close to the generator. the old canistor mounted on a small mount that in turn attaches to the engine block. the sole purpose of this appears to be to raise the oem canistor oil filter high enough to clear the frame that runs below that side of the engine. if I remove the threaded studs that this mount attaches to the engine block, can I mount the adaptor directly to the engine block with the supplied allen head studs? A lot of modern cars use an all glass bulb with just two wires from it, that is a firm push fit into a plastic holder which itself has "ears" that fasten to the back of the speedo - or whatever. Hi Got a little bit further. You can get bulb holders that fit the speedo and rev counter but take a 12 v 5w side light bayonet or cap less bulbs. A lot more light than the 2.2 w MES ones. I have got some and whilst not perfect it's a lot better. Terry "terry.isherwood" 29579... MORE
Hi all I have tried bolting a clip onto a bit of steel first and fitting the trim strip before I pop rivit the clips to the car. This is the strip on the sill and there are 7 clips per side all the same. The returns on the trim are equal so there is no up or down. The only way I can see this working is to insert the trim into the angled part of the clip and push up (or down) hard, push the top of the trim over the rounded part of the clip (in... MORE

G'day Terry I think Trevor could be on to the problem. It sounds like you are fitting the clips upside down. There is no way the two "ears" should hit the bodywork - they will face out from the body at about 45 degrees. The flat side of the clip should be flush with the body. If you are fitting them upside down, a small washer will not help - the trim will be loose after it is fitted. And I certainly would not suggest sliding the trim on - you are guaranteed to scatch the paint. The scratch... MORE

Chuck: Many years ago (about 1967 I think) I had a bugeye and wanted a forward tilting front end. I simply removed the hinges and swaung the unit up and forward on the latching bar that engages the holes in the frame. I think I had to remove the front bumper. I didn't use any latch downs for the unt. The weight held it in place. Probably not acceptable in these lawyer happy days but did just fine in the good old days!
