Sure you got that the right way round David? If they were in series, then the current through each bulb is the same, and the same as the current in the feed wire. But they are in parallel, and then the current through each is added up, and it all has to be supplied by the same feed wire so this carries the sum total of the current through each bulb. Since the concern is the capacity of the feed wire to carry that current without overheating (depends on its resistance) I was asking if anyone knows what the... MORE

David/Guy, You are correct in what you say BUT the total current in the wire will stil l double if all the bulbs are replaced as each one will be pulling double the current. From the drawings I can see there are around four lamps in the same circuit so the total wire current will go up from 1A total to around 2A. Nige & Terry, This is helpfull. There isn't a Maplin shop anywhere near me here "ooop no rth". There may be one down in Manchester, but I guess that will have a we b site. If not I will try RS Components web site (RadioSpares). One problem with going from 2.2W up to 5W bulbs is the additional load on t he wiring. Will this release the wire smoke? Looked at Maplin's web site and see that ultra bright White LEDS are 2.49/2.99 each. How many you would need I do not know as equivelent to ordinary bulb is not given but light output is 9200 mcd. But they do do a L52AK a 12v 5w halogen bulp, wire ended, for 99p. I think the original are 2.2 watts - so more watts and halogen sholud enable us to see the dials in the dark. Will pick one up when I next pass Maplins. Need to do something about the holder though. Remember not to touch the bulb... MORE

Thanks Bob and David, The dzus fasteners sound like a great way to go. Never had any direct experience with them so I looked them up on the web. Always something new to learn, now to find them and figure things out. Would love to have some photos of them being used on a bonnet or drawings. I like the idea of the least obvious fastener. I find straps and such break up the body lines. Changing back to the original round end tail lights worked very well as I knew that they were designed for the original fender... MORE

Will a hinged hood (top) off of a 1975 Midget fit on a 1966 Midget? What is required to use the later folding top? The interior three bolt mounting points just front of the wheel wells and? While perusing www.ragtops.com yesterday, I noticed an optional windshield for MGAs...really cool looking to me. It looks like it might be doable to modify a spridget windshield frame and a piece of lexan to make one of these. It looks more appropriate than a booklands to my eye. Of course, unless I find some way to lower the seats in my midget, it wouldn't work for me. I already look over the frame as much as I look through the windshield. With appologies to Nigel. I should have said 'Oil Tempered' hardboard. (NOT oil bonded) I bought a trim set a number of years ago because the seat vinyl split next to the seams. To have panels that matched in colour with the new seats, I had to have new ones of those as well. They were not good. Not up to the standard I wanted. I ended up carefully stripping the old panels and using them as templates to make the new ones. The best drills to use are 'saw tooth' bits. They are rather like a forstner bit,... MORE

I already have a pair of Sony speakers I'm going to put into mine, which I bought to go in my previous everyday car, which I subsequently changed (an offer came up I coudn't refuse!) to a much newer car, before I had a chance to install them, the newer car has a pretty decent stereo in it, so I decided to put them into the Midget when it was done. Greetings - I recently have become the proud owner of a pile of parts that I'm told when assembled is a 75 MG Midget, the previous owner was planning on restoring the car but never got past the dismantling portion of the restoration. I am in the gathering information stage of the project, hope to have the car home in the garage in the next couple of weeks. Well, Don... not necessarily for frame structual strength per se, but to avoid "distortion" of the top of the windshield frame in terms of it's possibly becoming "unsealed" from the top of the windsheld when the convertible top is fastened to same and "pull up" force is exerted to the top of the windshield frame, accordingly. This is especially so with tops which are initially fitted "taughtly" be begin with, considering under normal use they shrink bit over time and use when exposed to the elements. Cap'n. Greatings - I've recently become the proud owner of a pile of parts that when assembled I'm told will be a 75 MG Midget. Previous owner disassembled the car for restoration, but never got to it. Been a long time since I've been active in the MG scene, restored a 69 MGB with my father when I was a teenager back in the early 80's. I think I had better leave it then. Not that I plan to drive with the top up but should I in the future. I do recall now how the top frame on the 62, which did not have a middle rod, had bowed up over the years and I did not get a good windshield seal. Don "Don May" 29036... MORE

Is the rod attached from the center dash to the top center of the windshield necessary for the windshield frame's structural strength? In early models it was used to mount the rear view mirror but later models have the rear view mirror attached directly to the top frame but the rod was still left in place. If it is not necessary to keep the frame from spreading apart in the middle I want to remove it. Don "Don May" 29030... MORE

Anyone would think from your comment I was a fussy, pernickity, crotchety old git (no comments required!) well you're right! lol Problem is, my seat covers are leather connolly hide (one of the few departures from originality I've made) but the grain and pattern is pretty close to the trim panels. I have considered using leather for the trim panels, but I think thats just taking things too far. The leather seat covers were a pretty good deal, I got them off ebay, for not much more than buying an equivalent set of vinyl... MORE

Well done Don, I love it when I am prooved wrong on things like this! Now whilst thinking of instruments.... Mine are always very dim. I did try spray-painting the inside of the cases with white to increase the light reflection but it didn't really make much difference. Can one fit higher wattage bulbs? or would that release smoke from the wires? has anyone tried fitting some LED inside the cases? Guy "Guy Weller" 28990... MORE
