Actually Colin I was playing with these clips and trim while sitting at my desk, and no matter which way I turn the clips, they fall out as the angle changes. So, I may have some bum clips. However, if I alternate the clips (ears skyward, ears groundward) then they should hold in conjunction becuse the trim can't twist that much. there are 'L' shaped steel brackets in the corners of the windscreen, so you are slightly less likely to mess up these tapped holes than if they were in the aluminium. However, these brackets are themselves screwed to tapped holes in the uprights, so if you do mess up the steel 'L's, you'll probably still have to get the screws out of the aluminium parts to salvage it all. I am still struggling with the clips that hold the chrome strips on the sill of my 1972 RWA midget. Now on my 5th lot. Can any one help? The clips have a rounded edge and a bent up one. The bent up one has two ears folded down. I think you fit them with the rounded edge uppermost. Then the bottom lip of the trim goes under the bent up edge and you force the upper lip over the rounded edge so it springs over it. BUT when I put the clip on the sill the ears on... MORE

Nigel, I had exactly the same problem with the bumper mount and I still have not decided weather to make or buy new tubes as I have no seen them in Moss etc . Can you tell me if you made them or where you got them please. Hmm, I haven't yet tried to put mine on, but I'm sitting here with the chrome and clips in front of me. First thing I notice is that the lips on the back of the trim are of different sizes. Redline now makes something they refer to as the Eliminator series of products that are basically license plate covers that supposedly diffuses laser beams (Radar guns) and allows viewing of the plate only from near "straight on" angles, preventing automatic speed trap cameras from getting a clear image of your plate numbers. Trevor Thanks for that explanation, it's kind of what I expected it to be, and as =3D=0D you say regarding the down sides, it's exactly why I don't like using them. There's been very few nuts/bolts/screws I havent been able to remove using =3D=0D heat and brute strength, but I guess heat is not really an option on the windscreen frame - further fuelling my concern. Paul It's not the 'putting back together' bit that concerns me, it's the 'taking =3D=0D apart' bit. Knowing my car (and my luck) the screws holding the frame together will be =3D=0D seized solid - getting them out succesfully is walking a tightrope between =3D=0D success and scrapping the windscreen frame. Bob- I can't wait. Have the engine out already! Talked with Rivergate, and due to moving into their new shop, was advised they were just now filling November orders. It would be several months wait. Given that I am at the end of a ten year project, I want the car running the first day it gets above freezing in Ohio (which will probably be mid July). I had also heard that the Riverside clutch set-up could be an occasional problem. Apparently they use the MG pressure plate but a Toyota throw-out bearing. Not sure of the disc. Paul... MORE
I replaced my own windshield....successfully. Tried to get someone local to do it, and none of the glass places would touch the job. With a little planning, it really is an "at home" job. My brother and I did it while watching the Browns lose (again). First, order all new screws....you'll need them. Have some sharp drill bits and easy outs....you'll need them. After you get the old frame apart, spend some quality time polishing it....it'll need it. Put a new seal around the new glass and lightly soap the exterior edge of the seal. Have your helper pull... Chris Mine's pretty much the same I think, not scratched per se but seems to have =3D=0D loads of tiny little what can only be described as 'stone chips' all over i =3D=0D t. I'm in two minds as to what to do about it, knowing what a pita it is to re =3D=0D place the windscreen glass - it's not a job I'm looking forward to! I've only put about 500 miles on my Rivergate conversion. I initally had questions about the custom clutch. I thought the trowout bearing was a datsun part? Anyway... I was concerned about being able to replace the clutch should rivergate not be in existence when the time came. However, I talked to my local transmission shop, and they said it would be no problem to fabricate. I plan on putting some serious miles on the Midget this summer. Ask me again at the end of the year how it is going. Otherwise I am happy with the clutch performance.... MORE

If you get past the seized screws holding the frame together (this one usually sorts the boys from the girls) and manage to replace the glass you'll have mucho fun getting it back together - few tips for you - washing up liquid, long bits of rope and some stout bits of timber! Ahh multi part frame vs. single part on my car. Different frame, different problems, checks the archives for tales of people needing several elephants to get the frame back together. When we resprayed the sides after fitting new sills we used spray cans for the sills, a sort of semi matt black, on top of the two pack blue. I think it looks right. If you want will look up can details. Terry "terry.isherwood" 29342... MORE
Remind me never to take these apart again, what a job getting the rev counter bezel back again. The inner disk just would not drop in, it had sprung out never to go back. Two G clamps and a small hammer persuaded it to reseat. Found a selection of gasket material by the yard to make all new seals. Have tried 12 v 5 watt side light bulbs, much improved but they are bayonet connectors not MES so am working on adaptor. First choice is to dismantle 5 w bulb and unsolder it to give a glass envelope with... MORE
Nigel, I am very afraid to post any pix you could see. The car is in three colors of paint plus the original Brookland green. (Seeing what looked best, ya know). I have lowered the front with 1275 springs but not the rear just yet. I'm running American Racing Mags 5.5 inches with 165 x 70 tires. I've cut off the front bumper supports and sold off the rubber bumpers. The interior is new and pretty well sorted out. McGee runs and drives well except for my often mentioned clutch problem.
