David I did measure it and it was not that easy to be exact but it was going to be tight or not go. Will try for a conventional oil cooler. Does it go in place of the pipe from the block (banjo fitting) to the top of the oil filter screw on bit? Ginny, 40 year motorcycle man here.... over 200K miles on bikes. Depending upon the bike, your windshield can be either Lexan of Plexi. If it is the cheaper Plexi it will become cloudy (a white-ish haze) and eventually it will begin to show stress fractures. Lexan doesn't do that. Sounds like you have Plexi in which case, there is nothing you can do about the cloudiness because it is inside the Plexi and won't polish out. Strong sunshine is the culprit. Ginger... While I am sure there are glass shops that can do this professionally (ass-u-me(ing) it's saveable, you might do a web search on Novus Plastic Polish. nearly right - if the '6' had followed an H at the beginning, it would have been the 6th series Austin-Healey, but since it follows a G, it's the 6th series of MG Midget, i.e. the 1500 rubber bumper model. Also, although the G does mean MG, it doesn't specifically mean assembled at Abingdon - could have been Cowley. Gelcoat stress cracks need to be sanded until gone. The best way to do this is to use a thin, contrasting color paint (lacquer types work well) to paint the surface and penetrate into the cracks. Then, using wet/dry 220 grit sandpaper with water, sand the surface until all the color you added is gone. Rinse and repeat...as necessary, if needed. You may find the cracking is localized due to the top design (not stiff enough in some areas compaired to others - story of my life) and you might need to remove more material in the cracked areas... I now have two original hardtops that I'm going to paint. I have a question, both tops have cracks in the gelcoat. I believe from flexing. The fibeglass is perfect, no cracks whatsoever. What I am wondering, is with those gelcoat cracks, what is the best way to get them ready for paint such that the gelcoat cracks won't propagate into the new paint. Do I need to strip it down to the bare fibeglass? What stipper works the best? Any help would be appreciated. One top will be stock to match the car, the other will be checkered... MORE
If it is the 215 ci all alloy Buick V8 then you can get MG badged rocker covers and twin SUs for it!, it is the exact same engine that became the Rover 3.5 litre V8 and powers most range rovers and the MGB GTV8 hence Moss will sell you some rocker covers with MG cast in them that will bolt striaght on the engine. Although 200BHP stock is proabbly Gross rating, not the modern DIN, probbly more like 150 if you want to use the modern ratings. Even the Twin Plemumn SD1 Rover Vitesse only had 220BHP DIN!... MORE
I also have two tops that have thousands of small cracks/checks in them. They both are painted. I believe they come from flexing as when one person takes it off and moves it around, they are quite flexible. What is the best way to deal with this? How do we avoid this in the future. We can't be the only two people with this problem. Also, I don't know if either one is factory, how do you tell and is a new rear plastic window available, as well as rubber. Listers - The enigine/trans is a 1963 all aluminum Buick V8, 215 ci. (I'm told the 4barrel carbed ones are high compression, something like 11 to 1 and are good for a stock 200hp) The trans is a Borg-Warner T-50, aluminum 5 speed, I think it's from a late 70's Chevy V8 Monza. The added frame rails are 2" square steel tube, not sure I needed that much added to the sides of the original frame rails (probably could have used a 1" x 2" on it's side) but boy did it ever stiffen up after they were installed.... Hi Folks, Recently my uncle passed away and I now am suddenly becoming more involved with the family farm, he was running it up until now. First thing is the barns need a massive cleanout. Hi Aaron, Leave off the lock tabs. Don't use them! They're so soft they tend to give a false reading to the torque/stretch value of the bolts. If you can read the "F" properly. (Not backwards!) on the washer when it's in place, you've got it right. Remember to center the front seal before tightening all the cover bolts. Do it by leaving the cover bolts loose, so the cover will move a bit, then put the front pulley in place. Tighten a couple or 3 bolts, take off the pulley and tighten the remaining bolts. Don't heat it with a torch. It will never come out then. The washer you see in there holding the piston in is plastic. Put it in a vice, take a drill with a very small bit and CAREFULLY drill a few holes into the plastic washer in a few different places and use a pick to get it out or just drill enough holes until it breaks apart and then carefully take the pieces out taking care not to harm the inside of the cylinder. Gerry, do you have access to a copy of Bill Price's "The BMC/BL Competitions Department"? It has several contemporary photos of MKI MG Midgets of the same period as your MKII Sprite, clearly showing no bumpers. If you can't get hold of one, let me know and I'll scan the pics for you. The Healeys tended to go in for long distance races rather than rallies, with their works Sprites, so it isn't as easy to find photos of Sprites in rally trim. Regards David "David Jacobs" 36335... Hi Please can you help me. I've been rallying my Sprite MKII for more years than I care to remember, but I'm getting hassle from the HRCR scruitineer. He claims I should run with the bumpers on, because the car was never run "in period" without bumpers. This argument has gone on for the last two years, but now he is telling me that after 1st April he will refuse me a ticket unless I can prove otherwise. every day is a Sprite day. As we near the end of summer daytime temperatures are around 83F Even in the depths of winter daytime temps are around 64F. Our main problem is frying at traffic lights especially in the middle of summer, 104+degrees. Heaven for me is cruising around the Gold Coast on a summer evening. These fittings are designed to seal against the pipe flare, not on the thread. Teflon tape will not likely fix the problem. Assuming you don't have a cross-threaded fitting, and that it is tight, then either the flare on the end of the pipe is damaged/malformed, or the nipple shape at the bottom of the hole is. I have fixed this problem with a small nylon washer. A hardward store or plumbing supply will have small nylon washers which will just drop into the hole. I think they're about 1/4" dia with a 3/32" hole. Drop one in and... MORE
