Building on what Duncan said, the book by Horler will list the colors and have some good photos. One place you can see chips/buy paint from the Autocolor library (www.autocolorlibrary.com). Another practical source for me is "Restoring Sprites and Midgets - An enthusiasist guide" by Grahame Bristow. He doesn't list every nut and bolt, but he does show the break down of many systems. Hello everyone, I am a recent buyer of a battered old 1974-1275 Midget and am intending to carry out a total nut & bolt restoration job. Having never tinkered or worked on cars in my life, I dont know how long this intention will last, but at the moment I,m keen as mustard and would like as much help as possible. Can anyone out there tell me where I can find a list of original colours ( for a new re-spray )and is there a book that lists every single nut & bolt etc.? Hope someone can be of... MORE

G'day Paul Sounds like you have a Mini Metro Turbo head gasket. It's hard and black, and in my opinion the very best you can get. Apart from being a denser material, it also has re-inforcing fillets between the cylinders. My race engine runs 13:1 compression, and I have NEVER blown a head gasket. All the guys racing Sprites and Midgets Down Under use this gasket. One guy I know has re-used his 3 times now (he's cheap) and even he doesn't blow them! The Payen part number is TAM1521, at least that's what it is on the packet... MORE
Nope, don't think I have any extra's. My book and engine says that you should look for the carbs & intake manifold from a 65-66 MGB & GT. They & I am running a pair of HS4's and if you cut the manifold (the 65-66 MGB... is A 1798 CC) and slide it together, mine has piece of hose and two hose clamps in the middle, it works just great and you don't notice any thing out of line. It can be a reliable daily car if you look after it.. I ran a 1959 frogeye from 1998 to 2001 as my only car, clocking up in the r egion of 40K in that time. The car was not a prime example when I started and its still not a prime example. It had been modified, (1275, ribcase box , Disk front brakes, later diff, 3.9:1, Fiberglass bonnet,). I've got an unused standard Unipart head gasket here next to me (asbestos/steel) which is a light grey - might go darker in use? It came in a head gasket set, but I also prefer to use the so-called competition copper ones, so left this out. On a related but non-LBC matter, I just had to get some new bits for my Subaru including a head gasket - they're black but not hard at all as they're graphite on the outside. They're a hell of a price too - 40 GBP, and that's just for two cylinders! Regards David... MORE

Hi, The PO of my car damaged the hood hinge arms and tried badly to repair them. I have now repaired them to a better state but they are both different sizes. If somebody has their arms removed from a MK4 could you please measure the distance from the hinge pin point to the fwd mounting bolt. depending what car the rear axle came off, it will only be a bolt-on fit one or the other of your cars - the quarter elliptic rear suspension of the frogeye had slightly different spring mounts on the axle casing when compared with the later semi elliptic springs. David "David Jacobs" 30900... MORE
Hi Bill B, There are 2 4 speeds that you can use. One is the same size as the 5 speed and is found in all the years of the 210 and any of the B210 years with a 1400 engine. The other is a smaller one in configuration, but bolts and mounts exactly the same as the 5/4 speeds. It will be found in ANY of the B210, 1300, and 210 WITH a 1200 engine. This trans is wonderful. Even spacing on all the gears and shifts like glass. I have one in my van and love it.... MORE
I have a pair of front stub axles and complete rear axle with tube shock conversion with a set of wirewheels. In need of some TLC. My RWA midget, under restoration, has Rostyles also in need of TLC. I believe my Frogeye* also has pressed steel wheels, in need of TLC. When restored, the midget and frogeye will both be useable but not concours. However, The frogeye will be more of the show car and used for runs etc. The midget will be used for fun 'driving'(read hooling around , commuting to work, having a blast etc) So, which... MORE
Jim, The red wire "would normally" go to the plus (+ or SW) connection on the coil and the black wire to the negative (- or CB) coil connection. It's either gonna work or go pufff. A LU142 (positive ground) & LU142A (negative ground) are the spridget distributor units for positive and negative ground cars in that order. One might "Ass-u-me" that the LU143 "might" be for a positive ground since there is no "A" as the last letter, or then again, since it's for an aftermarket distributor it might well be for a negative ground car?
