I'm trying to locate one of the brackets that attaches the clutch slave to the tranny for a 1500 Midget. This can come from a 1500 Midget or a 1500 Spitfire, since the gear is the same on both. Bracket has 2 bolts to mount to the tranny, and a pinch bolt to hold the clutch slave. If you have one you can part with, please let me know. Thanks! TJ "TJ Tryon, Jr." 30484... MORE

I have a 1961 Bugeye that was originally Cherry Red with a red interior. In my studies, I have found a paint chip in the AutoColor Library at AutoBodyDepot.net that seems to be true to what everyone tells me the orignial looked like - almost a Maroon. The dilemma is that the Red interiors available from Moss etc almost seem to clash and yet I'm told that there was only one shade of red for the interior and the Moss interiors are close to authentic. Hi I looked in my book by Porter, " 'Frogeye' Sprite - Super Profile" and on page 50 there are two pictures of a cherry red Frog with a red interior. The interior seems to match the paint well. Haven't named my 73/bugeye bonnet project yet . . . could be transgender for all I know. If so . . . well . . . I live just across the bay bridge from San Francisco city hall. I'm more concerned it not breaking down crossing the bay bridge than it becoming a threat to someone's sanctity. I'm sitting in my recliner chair staring out the window when I hear a familiar sound . . . driving past the house is a bugeye sprite, same yellow color as my 73 .. .. ahhhhhhh by the time I got up and went out he was too far down the street to wave down. Only the second bugeye sprite I have see in Berkeley in the last 15 years . . . I hate that, missing the opportunity to meet someone local with a bugeye. G'day Jim Thanks for the update. Now it becomes clear to me. It must be the fact that we are Down Under and you are Up Over. You ask the purpose of the elephant's trunk. Well of course, it's to breath, or inhale. Well just under the rear end of the Sprite or Midget, (call it trunk or boot as you will) we have a pipe, a round hole anywhere between 1.25" and 2.5". Down Under, it is to breath out of. Clearly, Up Over it is to breath in through - hence the reference "trunk" - to breath... MORE

A "clip" is a common term in auto salvage yards...breakers to the Brits, and wreckin' yards in Texas. A front clip would be the front fenders, hood, (wings, bonnet) and grille bumpers, lights etc, to replace a whole front end damaged in an accident. A rear clip would be the rear fenders, deck lid (wings, boot) and connecting bits with the bumpers and lights to fix a vehicle that had been rear ended. Try running a Lotus Elite (the real one, 1200 FWE), multiply the problems of a spridget by about 2000 and your are still only halfway there!. regular piston meltdowns, Headgasket failure, an electrical system that is the worlds only true 'random event' generator.. err the list is endless, but for about 5 mins every decade it all works, this is not a good thing as it only does it to taunt you and force you into spending even more money.. who says cars don't have souls.. pity most of them are evil! I'm having a difficult time glueing new felts into the channels of the side screen frames. What type of adhesive would hold well but allow me to be sure they are properly positioned? My theory of why we do it is that it is the challenge of keeping something alive along with the occasional thrill when it does run great, the operative word there is "occasional." Jeremy No flame here - but I've seen a few people moan about the proliferation of non-lbc content, which is fair enough. But I just don't understand that if the non-lbc mail gets on peoples nerves, why they simply don't turn off the 'messages to mailbox' option in their yahoo midgetsprite prefs and simply read them on the website - that's exactly what I do. Robbie, I think the start point is to loosen the little pinch bolts on the throttle and the choke connecting rods, so that the two carbs can move independently. Then check that the piston in each will lift and drop back down again cleanly, without catching or sticking. If not, then loosening and re-tightening the two screws that hold the piston chamber on may help to centre it. More likely you will need to centre the jets. There is a special tool but it realy isnt necessary. Just loosen the larger (upper) nut on the jet by a half... MORE

David By safety I was more refering to driver saftey than car strength, in that a hard top offers more protection from low flying tarmac than a soft top, it always shockes me how many (even top level competitors) press against the roof when they roll a car, this being a thin piece of tin or even canvas between you and 100mph tarmac. Thanks for the tip on the bonnet. I talked with Jon this morning. Even with shipping costs to the west coast the price can't be beat. He said in the past most of their bugeye bonnet sales has been to Japan. In the future I will most likely replace my heavily worked on metal one with a new fiberglass. Don "Don May" 30139... MORE

maybe in general, but in the specific arena of MG club racing, there would be no safety derived advantage in using a hardtop (especially a 'race weight' one) as it doesn't provide any structural strength, unlike a saloon or factory built steel hardtop/coupe; and with short races with no driver changes, this rule would not be a factor either, so Nigel's theory of superior aerodynamics would appear to be the logical one.
