The scariest bit of all with my restoration of my 1500 Midget is coming up.. just ordered the hood, with that fited it's finshed. It will have gone from being an abandoned restoration to a finished car in about a year. I will admit I was the one who abandoned it! I started in 1988. I moved to cardiff in 1990, the car stayed in Berkshire in dads spare garage. Hi all, If you were at the show today and i didn't introduce myself sorry, loaded down with bits. I was on the Midget/Sprite Club stand and there was a White Midget with Red interior and an amazing Roll Bar. It was covered in red material and had a wind shield. Well.... the brass sleeved cylinders seem to last a lot longer, most especially in cars that "sit" and are little used. :) Cap'n Bob '60 Frog PS...speaking of slave cylinders...as in clutch slave cylinders. Rivergate is producing their new 7/8" clutch slave cylinder. Need a new clutch slave cylinder for my 60 bugeye. I'm having the master cylinder resleeved, but a new slave cylinder is about 1/3 the cost of resleeving. I only drive about 2000 - 3000 miles per year. Is the resleeved cylinder that much better? rlirwn@... 36142... MORE

Well the SoCal weathermen were wrong again! It was suppose start raining again yesterday and today - but all the rain stayed north in Los Angeles County. Orange County is sunny, mid-70s. So I decided to drive the bugeye up to a client meeting today . I had just replaced the RC40 muffler (riped off on freeway) with a cheaper Thrush Cherry bomb from NAPA. I liked the sound of the RC40 (throaty but smooth) - but I like the Cherry bomb much better (slightly louder, definitely raspier). Kinda the difference between white wine and Irish Whisky. Nick, I'd like to chip in if I may. I did the conversion on a Neg. ground car ('75 Midget) and took the overloading of the wires advice to heart based on LBC and other experts testimony. I chose a 62 amp GM alternator that was original to pickups mostly from '63-80. It fit and I don't worry about overloading the wiring. It gives nearly twice the amps of the OEM Lucas which should handle anything a reasonable car nut could want. Hello, I own a 1967 midget and am thinking about installing a sound system. I have read that to do this i would have to change the polarity of the car (or insulate the system- but thats a fire hazard I understand). I have limited electrical experiance but I think I would be able to follow the instructions on the website with relative ease, am I right in thinking this? Also, has anyone got a stereo in their car? Hi all, I want to raise the midget of the ground on axle stands and remove the doors and rear wings. I have removed the interior so i can brace it with a piece of 4 x 2 but was wondering if anyone had a better way. I dont want the car to collapse in the middle once i start taking it apart. I have visions of the hole car sagging and the doors not going back on etc. My idea is to get a piece of 4x2 and a sissor jack, place the 4x2 in the middle of... MORE
If it's a standard A+ head, the valves are 1.3" Inlet/1.15" Exhaust; or if it's from an MG Metro it should have had 1.4" inlets. With no other changes, your AAC needles should be somewhere close, or you could try ACE ones (a bit richer in the mid range but leaner at the top end), but in any event, a trip to the rolling road is well worthwhile to get the car set up. I'm so proud of myself...I'm sitting here patting myself on the head because I can't reach my back. After nearly a year of my poor little car sitting on jack stands with the front end in the air, I finished the assembly of the front end with poly bushings, new lever shocks and springs. I had to replace one "A" arm due to wear from the folcrum pin...if you don't do any other maintenance on your car, make sure you lube the front end regularly!!! G'day Jim "Who the heck designed the timing cover without a timing pointer!?" You can blame Alex Issigonis, who designed the Mini. In a Mini, you do the timing off the flywheel, through a hole in the clutch cover. That means you don't need a pointer on the timing cover. Since the engines are basically identical, and the timing covers are certainly interchangeable, many Sprites and Midgets end up with Mini timing covers.
