So that is a key release . . . sure happy it does not work. What a stupid place to put it, where you can't push it with out contorting yourself into unnatural positions.... The car is in the back yard and on a non-op permit so at least the steering lock will not lock on me while driving on the road until I fix it . . . the glass is replaced by removing and disassembling the screen frame (which presumably you'll be doing anyway, if you replace one of the posts) The setscrews holding it to the body are up under the corners of the dashboard. There are three or four phillips head screws at each corner plus the centre stay, holding the frame together. You might find you need to drill out the screws but you can get stainless steel replacements. Try and make a note of which length screws come out of which holes - a problem for the unwary is to put too... MORE

Rick... Gerard is of course, correct, unless you are choosing between running a mechanical or electrical "puller", in place of the mechanical? Mechanical fans are mounted as close to the radiator as possible for maximum flow effect. And if you do decide to "replace" the mechanical rather than "supplement" it with a "pusher", you might as well order a larger 4.5" (Cooper S) water pump pulley and install same while you are "in there". And maybe even replace the old cast iron water pump with a "county" deep-impeller alum. one...without a water "bypass" for even better cooling in summer... MORE
Just make a tow bar. It is simple and cost next to nothing. First a piece of 1" angle iron cut to about 3.5'. then drill two holes in it at the distance part that the front bumper studs are. Also hole must be big enought for the bumper studs to fit through. Then get a 4" "U" chanel about 4' long and weld them together to make a "T". Add acouple to small straps from the ends of the angle to the "u" neer the far end. Then drill holes in the far end of the "U" chanel... MORE

Mark Don't do it the gauge is easy to remove the dash is not. Just undo the knurled nut at the back of the clamp and pop it out, the oil pipe union can be unscrewed from the engine or the back of the gauge (once popped out) the water temperature sender connection if it is into the rad (as mine is on the 66) can be a bit of a pig to remove without damaging the sender cable but if you are renewing the gauge this will not matter. Hamondale, What are you using for spacers? If I could get an extra 1/4 that would be great.I've pushed and pulled and bounced the car around and could'nt get the tire to touch but I figured once it got going, the weight of the vehicle might roll it left or right just enough to damage the tire. Ed, When I put the new tire and wheel on the front, I had someone sit in the car and then we depressed the suspension while the steering wheel was turned both directions. It didn't rub. When we put it on the back, we bounced the car up and down and found no problem with the fender wells or outer fender, just that narrow gap between the inside of the tire and the spring. I'm just wondering if the tire will ever flex enough in the sidewall to rub against the rear spring. The wheels are 13 x 5... MORE
Jack, I'm running 185 70s on Cosmic 5.5s with 1/4" spacers on the rear. Have about 1/8" clearance to the springs. On hard cornering, they apparently rub the spring at one of the clamps, because the paint there is very slightly erased and the sidewalls have the slightest scuff mark. A smudge, not an abrasion or cut. I can't hear 'em rub at all, so I'm not worried. I suspect your 1/4 - 1/2" is plenty enough. Anybody got a good reason otherwise, I'd like to know too. I came across a really good deal on a used set of Minilite replicas with 175x70x13's mounted on them. The guy let me take one home and check to see if there would be any clearance problems. On the front, there is absolutely no doubt that they will run without rubbing. Lock to lock there is no touching. On the back, they roll just fine but, I noticed that there is only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance between the inboard sidewall and the rear eliptical spring. Now that my blue 63 has been sold to someone who loves it dearly I bought a purple 73rwa to keep my yellow 74rwa company however the 73 will sport a bugeye bonnet and a color change. Paper work was a bit of a hassle owners and buyers who did not report the sales so the DMV needs a paper trail in order to transfer title to me but think that is all in place now. Biff, Thanks. I checked everything you mentioned and Wham!, the dimmer switch on the floor had a loose connection. It looked like it was hooked up but when I wiggled the center wire around, the lights came on. I cleaned all three connections and the headlights are on! Thanks a bunch, Jack "austinbud2002" 23412... HELP! I hate to bug you just when I have a problem but here goes: Every other electrical light and accessory on my MKII Sprite is working EXCEPT the headlights.
