Hi Trevor- Yes, alignment tool was used. Have played A LOT with bleeding, including pressure bleeding. Absolutely no air. Pushrod moves almost one-half inch. I'm told this is all it should move. I've owned four of these cars. I can tell you for sure something is wrong. While I am sure some driving will help, I fear the tranny will be junk inside of a week. Doing some reading and had a thought. Early slave cylinders were 7/8 bore. Late slave was one inch. What if I switch to an early slave? Will it not give me greater pushrod... MORE
All Thanks for the advise. No matter what the tube contains, most of the ones I come across have the tube cut off. So I would need to replace the whole thing. If this whole thing is a sealed unit, I wonder how they even attach a new tube assembly? You can't get the bulb "coolant sensor" through the gague housing? Just wonder how they do it?? Paul... Didn't know you were experienced with LBC's. Please ignore my prior post on simply driving it to work out suspected air in the system. Go with your own experience and feelings in the matter. If you mixed parts to different systems, you may be onto something here in terms of different MC pushrod throws. I seem to remember this coming up in past list discussions but I cannot recall accurately I am afraid and I don't personally "know". True.. the sprite is the one in one piece!.. the 1500 is a collection of parts.. has been since 1988.. However the V5 still states it was registered in late 74. Go figure that one!, the cars colour is original and was supposedly discontinued by the 1975 MY. It also has only one jacking point on each side.. and no signs were found of the rear one when I replaced the sills and repaired the heal board (although when I got it one side had sills with two holes the other with one, neither were the first set!) Just thopught I would ask how early myy 1500 RB sprite was, it is a 1974 car in teal blue, the VIN is GAN6 157344, I don;t seem to be able to find any infor on what VIN the forst 1500 was.. although I would guess 155000.. Stewart "Ford Prefect" 28597... MORE
Paul, Yes it will crunch going into 1st and reverse Yes it will be harder getting into gears when stationary The "bite point" on the clutch should be further from the floor so it may still need adjustment, But.... nothing beats driving it for a few hundred miles. It will shake any remaining air bubbles out of the hydraulic fluid. It will bed down any contact surfaces, synchro hubs, clutch and release bearing and it will ease the meshing of gears Drive it! Stewart, According to Clausager's book the first GAN6 was in Oct of '74 and was GAN6/154101 so that would make yours the 3,243 one to roll off the production line. I forgot to add, if you're not too bothered about originality, you can get ones that use an electric temperature sensor; these are more convenient if you need to remove the gauge from the dash, or the sender from the head or radiator. The original ones are usually ok if left in place - I only had to change mine because I needed to get the dashboard out, and the sensor bulb wouldn't unscrew from the head. Thanks for the comments Dave. My own car is a '66 midget Mk2. It came with a red interior, and the cowl was also red. The following all refer to the midget Mk numbers. The Mk1 had body coloured turrets. The Mk2 had carpet coloured turrets. I had a friend with a Tartan red that had a red turret and another with a blue midget with a blue turret (as per the original Mk2 brochure in my possession) On the Mk3 the turrets were red for a time when a red interior was fitted, as another club friend of... Roger I have a 65 and a 66 Sprite (both MKIII Sprites) the 66 had no cowl when I acquired her (she had an aftermarket leather cloth thing instead) I fitted a new cowl and painted it black in line with Horler's bible. I have just checked my 65 ( which is a basket case I am rebuilding) and to my surprise it has a red cowl. I even scratched some paint off (hell it will need a respray anyway) and can find no layer of black between the red and bare metal, so you may well be correct.... MORE
I wonder if someone can help me here. I have raised this issue before, and wish to bring it to the attention of 'The People who Know' For Christmas I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Terry Horler's 'Original Sprit and Midget' which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading. On page 80 next to the Photo' of the dashboard, he states, with regard to Mk2 Midgets, that "The gear lever cowl was now painted black regardless of body colour." OK, Ed, The reason I used the word assumption was to indicate exactly that. It was an ASSumption, and I am well aware of what that implies. The point is that even allowing for this, and for some likely inaccuracies in the data provided by Mr. Clausanger the estimated production does come out at least in the correct sort of time frame for my car - 3 weeks before first registration - which is a documented date. That's good enough for me as I am not really that bothered where precisely in the time/space continuum the thing first turned... MORE

I and several other people round here have good experience of the Ignitor (Pertronix in the US, Aldon in the UK). Hides complete within the cap. Alan It's always very difficult to put prices on cars, specially without the ben =3D=0D efit of seeing them, and owners quite often have very strange ideas on what things =3D=0D are worth, but at the end of the day, naturally, you need to decide what it =3D=0D s worth to you. Simple economics says that availability/supply and demand dictate prices of =3D=0D any product or service and that applys equally to cars. Bob I am not sure if it is the same thing, but when I was a very small child my Dad was interested in Motorcycle scrambling and so I was often at scramble events with him (maybe 50 years ago) but I still remember the smell.
