You know.... I remember seeing films on the History and Speedvision Channel of original Frogeyes being unloaded from ships in NYC during their heyday when Inskip was the big importer here in the Northeast US. The factory "gaps" were nothing to be proud of, believe me!! Were it not for the new paint, you would have difficulty believing these were new cars basically right off the factory production line. I saw it and it doesn't make sense. Ed's ranting actually makes a bit more sense, as the MGC/Austin 3 litre 'new C-Series' engine was supposedly a replacement for the one fitted to Austin Westminsters and 6 cyl Big Healeys so it follows that it would be the same colour. But it still doesn't tell the whole story, as you'd have expected all previous Spridget engines to be painted this same light metallic green/gray instead of the plain darker green as used on Morris Minors etc; alternatively why didn't they carry on with the original green? Ed I didn't get it wrong at all, I don't know why you're getting so excited. It may well be 'officially' called Austin-Healey light green, but the reason it's also known as MGC metallic green, is because at the factory when they painted the MGC engines they used this colour, and it also seemed logical that they also paint the Midget engines with it as well, note the way round that is. Ed, please note here that we're talking MG as in MG Midget and MGC, nothing at all to do with Austin Healey, hence the colour being known... MORE

I used POR 15 in my wheel wells and part of the engine compartment this summer and had some of it become bubbly as it cured. When I talked to their techies I was told that this was probably due to the humidity being too high and the surface was setting up before the lower material and this created problems for the material below the surface. He had me sand the bubbles with 320 sandpaper and redo it. I plan to use their engine kit when I get to working on the engine. Their Austin Healey green should look... MORE

If anyone would like to toss me a bone on one, some or all of these questions I'd appreciate it very much. If I can figure out how to post pictures in the Photos section I'll put up some 'before' and 'after' of the engine bay. After some thought, it looks like I might not try to save my existing front clip on my AH Sprite MKII. My car was a GP car in the early 70's and has some front end repairs to show for it. I think rather than putting the time and $$$ into fixing what I have, I'll go with a one piece fiberglass front end. So my question is.....what's out there in fiberglass front ends, and who can recomend a good one? I've looked into the Speedwell piece and it looks nice. Tom... As I understand it, about 5k for the whole shebang but you already have good doors and other useful parts. So the only correct way of doing this is to email or phone for exactly what YOU need as I believe the tub may come in different stages of completion. (If there are any listers who know more about this, please feel free to chime in) As you know, you can never stop rust, though you can slow it down. Thanks Nigel, Yes, sentimentality does enter into it. My father gave me this Sprite as a high school graduation present some 23 years ago. He actually gave it to me in pieces, and we rebuilt it together, which brought us closer, considering I was living with my mother after their divorce. So it's not just a car, it's a family heirloom! In the last three years I have installed performance suspension front and rear, uprated brakes, Weber, and LCB exhaust header. Actually I have been eading the list for q while now and have gotten a lot of usefull information from it. I have also tried searching this group, the spitfire groups and a few other message boards. I have tried all of the search variations I can think of and still have come up with only vague descriptions. I even e-mailed the fellow that added a second thrust bearing but the address was no longer valid. Greetings from Minneapolis. My 68 Sprite is developing a serious case of tinworm. I would like to purchase a clean and straight replacement body to transfer all my nice parts to. Just a rust free tub from 1967-1974, preferably with wings and bonnet. I have good doors and a boot lid already. Faded paint is okay, and I can fix a few small dings, but no major dents, cracks, or twists please. I hear there are some nice tubs in the desert southwest just waiting for adoption. I took a 800 mile ride this weekend, to take my Bugeye to Rivergate shop, after much number crunching, it came out that if I had them build an engine for me, and rebuild a 5 speed, the shipping on that would eat me alive, so in my thought I asked what it would be if I brought my car to them to have the work done, of course I know it will take another trip down there, to pick up car, but... the shipping would have been more expensive than the labor they charged to install, so that's... David *chuckle* Reasonably being the operative word here. If the windscreen surround screws are seized it can be a bloody nightmare to do. -If its of intrest a lot of the midget/sprite windsreens are in fact made in canada,as for fitting them you are better taking your time and doing it yourselve ,along with a new rubber.The auto-windscreen people just pick a dam silly price out of there head to charge simply they dont want to fit them and a lot of them dont have a clue how to. wes "wesley5060" 26726... Wire wheel, rear axle, I have gear oil coming out from the welch plug (oil collects in the spinner). I pulled out the plug and the seal is bad. I am unable to find a direct replacement part from Moss. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to build a new plug and/or seal to eliminate the oil leaking through? I am in the process of rebuilding my 1500 engine. I am looking for some feedback on what is the best way to Pin aq thrust washer in place. I have read some papers that talk about using three 1/8" roll pins, I have not seen any feedback on how well this works. My second question is related and it involves machining down the rear bearing housing to accept a second thrust washer that is held in place using three brass screws. I guess you mean the bootlid, Margaret? Must make visibility a bit tricky if the spare's on the bonnet! It's easier to do the bonnet with the hinges bolted to the car because the bolts are inside the car, not in the engine compartment. This means the bonnet manouevrer can't see the bolt holes, and the bolt-putter-in-er can't see the hinges as they approach and with a heavy frogeye bonnet, it must be 100 times worse than with just the hinges by themselves. The bootlid is a different story, because the hinge bolts are there in front of you... MORE

For North American Sprites, it was at HAN9 72034, so Brandon's would most likely have been Positive earth originally. (These chassis number change points do not necessarily indicate everything before was one spec and everything after was another - minor part changes especially would have been brought in over some period of time.) Hi everyone When replacing the frogeye bonnet, is it best to fit the hinges to the car first, then bolt the bonnet on? Or is it best to bolt the hinges to the bonnet and then offer the hinges up to the car? Regards Chris "howes" 26682... MORE

Wow...tough one to call over an email set-up, Duncan. These cars came with a single baffled muffler. The afermarket or special tuning sports versions of these were of straight through design and either steel or glasspacked..... Cherry Bomb or Thrush make excellent glasspack mufflers for these cars 'cause they come in small, compact sizes and are easily fitted. Don't forget Duncan, noise standards were a thing of the future "back then". A Sprite's normal sound back when would be considered very loud by today's standards. It should be "raspy" but not so loud that it becomes really bothersome on... MORE
