Morning folks. This is sort of a poll to get an idea of what Spridgets are currently the most collectable / desired and their current market value. Realizing of course you can't really put a price on insanity . . . uh . . . I mean spridget love / masochism. We have all suffered a few of their engineering quirks. Cats are O.K. but I can't stand beer and I don't own a gun - or even want to - but I do get a great deal of fun from my midget. They have a certain - shall we say - style. They are also accessible technology and pretty easy to deal with most of the time. The biggest problems seem to come as a result of previous owners neglect/mad ideas/incompetence/impecunious state/ etc etc. You will find that they bring a whole new world of fun and friendship and maybe a few worries. Need some help on this. I intended to rebuild my clutch master cylinder so I looked in the Haynes 1275/1500 comic book. It says to remove the pedal box cover remove the cotter pin and pin and than remove the master cylinder nuts. How does someone remove the lower nut without taking off the entire pedal box along with also removing the brake master cylinder. Not so simple a job. Is this the only way to get at the nut. I purchased a 8 of 1975 USA mg midget and have been correcting what the previous owners did to ricky race it. I have talked to the mechanic the previous owners had work on the car about the things I noticed wrong after buying it. The left front end has too much negative camber, thanks PilotBob. The mechanics answer "the owners just replaced tires and did not drive fast" what he meant by fast must have been any thing over 40 MPH. The engine isn't original for the car. Wimpy.... There are 1500 owners who would very much like to be in your shoes with your 1275 driveline set-up, believe me!! When YOUR transmission goes, you can at least exchange it for the readily available, easily installable Datsun 210 conversion for about what it costs for a rebuilt British ribcase at today's prices. AND, you have the benefit of already having the higher geared 3.7 diff. as well (most likely) which came stock in the later 1500 Spridgfires. Which is a good thing considering the first 3 ratios for the 210 gearbox are slightly lower than those in... MORE
Hi Kelly, The e-mails are now begining to come through now, I expect the system was down for a bit, as it sometimes is. As for Midgets, mine is now out in the drive, newly serviced etc, and ready for the long haul to Scotland on Friday morning. It's about a 500 mile trip, and should take about 10 hours. Hopefully I will meet up with David Campbell and his wife Paula from the USA who are holidaying near our cottage in the country. Watching the end of a real 'downer' of a movie. On the Beach. Managed to watch them destroy several late 50's LBC's and other sports types. Q's for the group. What was Fred Astaire driving? In the last scene.. What type Austin was in the scene with Ava Gardner? Wonder if Austin paid advert $ for the nice shot of the dash with Austin displayed?? Really was a major depressive flick. Hi All, The best way to fit new seats is to drive your car to the MGB Hive, Wisbech, Cambridge, and let them do it for you!! I ordered my new leather seats from them about a week ago, and had them fitted today, without any difficulty!! (at least on my part). It took them over two hours to complete, as the runners were very badly corroded, and nuts wewe seized. But I drove home in comfort, without the need to place my socket set under the seat so that I could see where I was going!! Long live... MORE
I have been running 155/80 x 13 but I guess I'd better have the dealer double check the clearance before I decide on one. Will 155/80 x 13 or 175/70x13 on 13x5 Mini-lites fit on a MK II Sprite without causing a clearance or rubbing problem ? There's a clearance at the local tire store and I need to buy some before my wife counts her credit cards. Thanks, Jack "austinbud2002" 22996... MORE
Jack... Either absolutley should. I am using 175/70x13 on 5.5 Western's (Minilite wannabes) on my '60 BE with no problems, and I've not yet put the 1/4 spacers on the back wheels yet to bring them out a bit to match the track of the wider "disc" front end. Nelson I think it is for the blocked filter warning light ( the red light just above the oil pressure gauge ). A 62 Sprite should have this light the later cars do not so a spin on filter head from a later car will not have this connection but I guess an adapter for use on an earlier car should. I just purchased a used spin-on oil filter adapter and have a question about it. On the top there is a push on electrical connector and I am curious as to what it is used for. I'm guessing that it is connected to the on-board computer in newer versions of the LBC's and would tell the driver that the oil is dirty and it is time to change it. There hasn't been any mention about Larry Macy's wedding on Sunday! I was there and a good time was had by all. Larry arrived in the passenger's seat of his '79 Midget, in top hat and tails. His driver was best man, Reg Kennedy. Of course, Larry caught his tail (coat tail) in the car door, so he sported a nice greasy spot all day. Larry and Theresa were married in their back yard. Just for the record, not saying who is right or wrong, I grew up with the small lamps called "parking lights" at that time, in the fifties and sixties you could turn them on during dusk hours while driving instead of the full headlights (that is not legal anymore) or while parked alongside the road so other cars could see you. Flashers have since taken over that function. On a bugeye/frogeye the small round lenses below the stop lights would have been called parking lights, with the dual function of use as turn signals. I checked and have found the relevant mounting points. The wheel well attachment consisted of two studs with chrome dome nuts. Can anyone suggest a US source for the proper 3-point belts? I don't believe that they would have been retractable. Thanks, Herman "hermanfarrer" 22891... MORE
I would say that if you took your time about it, and stayed off major interstate roads, it could be a spectacular ride and a great way to become (very) familiar with the Midget. On the other hand, if you "pushed" to get home in two days and drove 70mph on dead-straight roads the whole way, it could get grueling. I need to install seat belts and would like to know whether all of the mounting points for a 3-point system are already in place or whether modifications need to be made.
