Hi all As discussed in the previous thread my 1500 is totally standard bar the K&N filter, which was fitted and set up by the MGOC on their rolling road. However it has always been a bit hesitant, especially pulling away from cold. I also noticed it yesterday when it was fully warmed up and I was driving along at about 40.Ipressed the pedal down to accelerate and there was a definate hesitation, almost like turbo lag. Hi Terry So what you are talking about fitting is basically a stage 1 tuning kit. My Mini has a stage 1 kit fitted, but it really hasn't made much difference to the insurance premium. About =A310 more per annum or something silly like that. If you do the conversion make sure that you get the right carb needles as well, otherwise it will run horribly rich. Ideally these things need to be set up on a rolling road.............. There are 2 types of K&N filters for the 1275 cars, either 2 separate pancake filters or the deep combined... MORE
Well, I didn't get the Riley grill. The seller sent me the email below, a nd I responded by offering him the =C2=A325 off ebay. He responded that he no w wanted =C2=A330, so I backed away. Yeah. It probably will handle good that way...:) I live in an area that has steep drive ways and I like my cars "looowww". The two things never mix so that's why Im going air ride. I haven't ran my Midget yet with the air ride suspension. Iv only had the car for about 8 months and 4 of those months its been in my shop being "tricked out". I do have air ride in the front of my 85 supercharged Toyota MR2 and Tokico 10 way adjustable shocks on all 4 corners and the car rides surprisingly very... MORE
Hey Everybody Please forgive my ignorance but was this an option on any of the Austin Healey Sprites or MG Midgets? Im guessing not. Is there a tilt wheel steering column that would be compatible in the Spridget? Is it possible for UK sellers to ship via FEDX, UPS, etc. rather than using the Royal Post? I've often wondered this, as I shipped something via UPS to the UK for half what it cost to ship a similar item to the USA. So in theory 1920's and early 30's cars can run happily on premium unleaded. I'm only interested because my father has a '29 OHC Minor and a '34 Morris 10/4. Perhaps a bit of Castrol R to lubricate the stems? Well it smells nice anyway!!The Minor revs like anything (it has to otherwise you would never get above 20mph!!) whilst the Ten is as lazy as they come. Just got a new convertible top for the 73 B. It went on MUCH easier than on the Midget, though I am not sure how to tuck the edges around the header rail. There is a little flap that folded out from under the top, and a multi-ply flap that is on the same section as the "window fly". I'm not quite sure how all that gets tucked in, and the old top was too rotted to tell for sure. Can someone take a picture of the edge of the header rail, where that little plastic block with the... Just to shed some of my personal experience in this area. I had to tackle this area personally in the last week or so. If you follow some of the parts supplier's diagrams you might end up installing this little pesky item backwards. Best advice is, as always, follow your original repair manual. In my case, it's a Sprite Mark I with a 948 engine. If you stop to think for a moment, and ask yourself, what is the logical purpose for this (oil thrower) item? Strange one this , I suspect it 's not too important. MG book shows concave towards the outside of the engine i.e. Front of car. The Maestro A series 1300 engine shows a slight centre dish concave towards the gear, but the outer rim edge of the thrower is like a normal washer, flat. My Haynes Mini book - (all A series engines) shows the same type of thrower but with an 'F' marked on one side. The 'F' is fitted towards the outside or normally Front of car. i.e. centre concave goes next to the gear. Lindsay Porters... MORE
Chris and Margaret, You can tighten the two screws on the underside of the mirror casing. That should help. If not, then you need to remove the glass, dismantlle the ball pivot, wrap some coarse sandpaper around it and re-assemble. Putting sandpapaper around your balls gives a better grip and solves the droop problem. "Guy Weller" 31255... MORE
I love it when a plan works out...so far that is. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my new 175/70x13 Yokohamas on the new 5.5 inch Dayton wires were rubbing on sharp bumps and right hand turns. It was scraping the RWArch, and I was a victim of the dreaded driver side droop, not to mention the extra lbs I carry...hitting about 260 at my last weigh in. Selling such and e-mail list is just a way for e-bay to make some money. Just a couple of tips about adjusting rear brakes and handbrake. Firstly, you MUST totally back off the handbrake before you attempt to adjust the rear brakes. Preferably, remove the clevis pin where the handbrake cable is attached to the compensator mounted to the diff housing. This ensures that the adjustment at the wheels is not interfered with by the handbrake being partly on. After you have adjusted the brakes, you can then re-connect the handbrake and adjust it. You will often find that the clevis pin will no longer fit, and you have to back off the handbrake... MORE
