Brad, I don't know of any ready made double zerked A-arms, surely if there are any, someone here will know. If not, I did my own setup, and it was fairly easy - as follows. I first knocked out the penny sized blank plugs from behind. You might be able to do that without dismantling the assembly, if you can come in through the grease hole in the pin with a long solid metal rod, maybe a nail. I put one in my Bugeye, aftermarket, plastic with two screw mounts, on the passenger side of the heater box, above the panel, out of sight because of the dash. You have to know it is there to find it. There is a brown, always hot wire, that comes through the firewall and goes to the ignition switch. There is a "Lucas" conector right after it comes through the firewall. I changed that to a dual plug and plug the "non usable for heat" cig. lighter into that and grounded it through one of the mounting screws. Bob, Troutdale,... MORE

Chris... I think it's strictly a matter of waiting for the "right" person to come along (ebay?). The 10cc (2" main) is the "preferred" engine for those restoring originally equipped 1098 machines. It is also the smoothest running Series A (IMHO). They've got a silky smooth, "sweet" exhaust note not found in the more "square" motors. My BE came equipped with a "10cc". Bob, Guilty as charged. On my BE, all of the slots on the screws that hold the aluminum tub trim have to be dead on horizontal. In places where nobody can ever see, I might use an odd fastener that doesn't match the others... but it will bother me when I do. Places that can be seen - I've written down on my shopping list to get one more stainless 1/4-28 bolt so that they all will match. Bill, Fairly common fault. The selector fork wears and the result is that the 1st / 2nd gear moves a fraction too far along its splines and allows the spring loaded plungers to pop out, preventing the gear cluster from moving back as it should. Sorry, that is probably not too clear until you have dismantled the box to fix it! Cause is likely to be from "crawling" in first gear with your hand resting on the lever. Should there be any sideways slack on the bolt in each end of the radius arms or should they be tight. I have just fitted new arms and they have rather a big sideways slack/movement on the bolts each end. Should i make up some spacers to rid the slack. Getting back to the original question, "which fastener grade should I use?" I hope it's very clear by now that grade 8 fasteners are far superior to grade 5 fasteners. If this is so, then why do the automotive manufacturers use some grade 5 fasteners? The automotive OEM's use what it needs to be safe and nothing more since there is a difference in cost between grade 5 and grade 8 (or metric 8.8 and 10.9). Since the OEM's manufacture millions of vehicles each year, the difference in a few cents per fastener adds up to a lot for... MORE
Could any listers with Pertronix ignitions please take a look at the serial number on the little black box and let me know what they are & which Pertronix kit they have? This would be greatly appreciated. I just bought a brand new (or at least never used) Aldon distributor for my Bugeye. The dizzy has a Pertronix ignition installed also, but I can't tell which one. Collar is marked LU143/LU144, and black "box" is has a small label reading 20V-4X and 2 wires (red/black). Gentleman I bought it from had a bunch of parts that he new nothing... MORE

How can you test and see if the PCV diaphragm is good? I have two, one I KNOW will allow the car to smoke, when I gently blow on the tube that connects to the oil separator, it passes air out of the hole on the top plate. Another one that I just got, when I gently blow in the same orifice, it makes a sound like a quacking duck. Does either one of these sound like they are ok? I finally have the correct intake for the 68, as well as all the smog stuff. Call me paranoid,... MORE

James... Anything you can do to "cool" a motor which is otherwise running at a normal temperature extends service life. Yesterday's petroleum oils got by on viscosity more than film strength. Today they get by on both, more or less, while synthetics go more with film strength than viscosity for superior lubrication, inclusive of their ability to maintain superior film strength at higher operation temperature than the most modern of petroleums. Oil which is "overcooled" does not perform as well as oil running at "proper" temperature...thus the oilstat. However, one must monitor the oilstat for proper operation and thus,... MORE
I do not know the definitive answer to these questions for a frogeye, but - on my midget, which is pretty much the same as far as engine compartment painting is concerned, 1. left unpainted.2 ditto. 3 Painted. 4 Painted, except for starter nose inside clutch bell. 5. unpainted 6. unpainted 7. painted 8. Painted. water pump, painted. Cooling blades? yes, that's the chappy - it shouldn't be flat though, it should have a slight dish to it to be a proper Belleville washer. The later E clip is probably cheaper as it does both functions of the Belleville washer (basically a spring) and the circlip combined. When you consider this cylinder was probably used on all sorts of different cars sold in their millions, a few pennies saved on the cost of parts soon adds up! David "David Jacobs" 30722... MORE

Jim Well according to the book I have (Grahame Bristow's) the felt washers are there to stop the rods from rattling, he doesnt say anything about installing them with grease, but I still feel that it will help lubricate that mechanism. N "amukdigiphoto" 30707... MORE
Duncan Yeah, but as I said - it seems they're no longer available, so you're lucky if you can re-use, I'm re-using mine, well 7 of them, 1's gone awol! And I agree on removing the spring, I took mine out with the engine still in the car, so didn't have that problem, but did when I tried to refit - had to use the long bolts method.
