Peter Seen plenty of second hand door frames going on ebay.co.uk in the auto's section. You'll probably going to have to get a new hinge cover plate. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 24729... MORE
The Horn Push should definitely be in the steering wheel boss on your car. I will scan the page from the BMC parts list so that you can see what you should have. I will e-mail it directly to you if that is OK. R "Roger Stinson" 24707... MORE
Don *chuckle* Thanks! I can really only work on one side at a time, as you can see. I put a jack under and move it sideways over to the other side so I can work on the other side! I've turned the car right over 180 degrees to work on the underside on my own as well! The limit of space really is the greatest problem, it makes working on it very hard as I'm constantly having to move things to move about! Where theres a will so they say . . . And yes, sometimes I think... MORE
For a while it was fashionable to have the horn on the end of the indicator stalk. I can't remember what age your car is so I am not sure whether this is applicable in your case, but a po might have fitted the later type of indicator stalk retrospectively, even if it is an earlier car. I don't know if this helps but is just a couple of thoughts on the subject. R. "Roger Stinson" 24728... MORE
Hi guys As promised, I took some pics of the Midget last night after I'd finished working on it, and have uploaded them to Nigels-71-Midget folder on the yahoo club website, for those curious (or bored enough) to want to see them. You can see clearly the problems involved in working on one of these cars in a single garage! The rather grubby looking mattress on the right is a pain in the butt taking up so much room, but is invaluable when I turn the car over to work on it. (No it's not for unwelcome guests to... MORE
Hi afminc13, It can be done but not easily. In my opinion, not a good swap even if it was easy. The reverse is much more easily accomplished (A-series into a later RB car). Motor mounts are different and the frame crossmember where the steering rack mounts needs to be cut and reinforced differently to accomodate the crank pulley. I recall there is a drivers side footwell modification that needs to be done and maybe even the passenger side. If you want to go to that much trouble, I think there are better options, such as a rotary swap.... MORE
Can a 1500 engine and trans from a 1976 midget bolt into a 1973 Midget? A good "MG" friend feels it should not be a problem, but I thought I would post the question to see if anyone has done this before. Any suggestions / advice would be greatly appreciated. "afminc13" 24693... MORE

RE: Horn Not necessarily. What year car is yours? Later cars had a small cylindrical platic switch about the diameter of a Bic pen with a brass spring loaded contact at each end. This fits in a small hole in the steering wheel. They are easily broken and it is missing you would not know what should be in there. Gerard "gerardchateau" 24685... MORE
It's a 65 midget. I'm not sure where the horn switch is. I have a book but it's not very helpful. "Virginia" 24678... MORE
No, the signal doesn't work when I hold the arm in one position or the other. There's nothing in the place where the horn should be. I guess I'll have totally redo that. "Virginia" 24674... MORE
Hey Don, I'm not sure my first reply made it to the list so I'm gonna do this again just in case. It doesn't feel like the turn signal arm is catching on what it's supposed to catch on to make the signal work. There's no resistance when I move the lever up or down. I haven't taken it apart yet to look because I'm just a little nervous taking the steering column apart. As for the horn, when I remove the cover in the middle of the steering wheel there's nothing there. No wires, no contacts no nothing.... MORE
Brad, A couple things. Hopefully you have dodged a bullet. I have heard stories of A-series engine overheated to the point of seizing up but running again once cooled down. I'm not saying that no damage occurs, but while not good, not necessarily fatal either. I would keep an eye on your oil because symptoms could be delayed. A weakened head gasket or crack around a valve could develop problems later. Other things I've seen as evidence of overheating are damage to pistons and rings from the swelling. Pistons will show significant scuffing on the skirts where they hit... MORE
According to what I have read many times, both groups were ordered to work independently, but the secretly broke the "rule". Gerard The except below is from the Midget Sprite Club site, attributed to (c) Mick. S. Maguire M.I.E.E.E "1961 saw the introduction of the replacement for the Sprite Mk I, the car had undergone a major restyling. The front end was restyled by Healeys at Warwick along more traditional lines: the one piece front end of the frogeye was gone, being replaced by a more traditional layout of fixed front wings and a separate bonnet. The rear end... MORE
Nigel, I cannot give you the letter spcing (mine is a Sprite and anyway I don't bother with such cill lettering) Just be careful when you drill out the holes in the cill not to end up with MIDGET on one side and TEGDIM on the other! Guy "Guy Weller" 24648... MORE
First is to do with the lower rear curved bits of the rear wings just underneath where the rear light lenses fit, I'm referring to the later style rear not the Frog/Bugeye one. Should this lower rear curved area have a vertical seam joint in it? Where the rear wing is attached to the rear apron? Mine had filler covering this up and I'm not sure whether this rear join seam should be visible there or not. Remember I want my car to lok as original as I can get it ; ) Second question is regarding the Midget... MORE
I have to admit to toying withe the idea of fitting the midget bonnet and wings to my frogeye temporarily, as there was one car built like this. In all fairness the fact the Mk2 sprite and Mk1 midget came out as well as it did is quiet amazing when you find out the front end was designed by Healey and the back end by MG.. allegedly they did not collaborate either.. (I suspect the truth is different!) Stewart "Ford Prefect" 24642... MORE
That will be where someone has jacked the car up with a trolley jack without a load spreader. Definitely not as it left the factory. ;-)) Seriously though, I don't think it will make any difference to the alignment whether the engine is in or out, unless something is seriously weakened. I figured the only politically correct thing to do was spend all this time restoring the bugeye bonnet to put on my 74. Don "Don May" 24637... MORE

Kelly Not much to go on here! If I were in your shoes, I'd reject it out of hand and say nope, I wan't the original one - don't just accept what 'they want to give you'. The original's were tubular shaped, and came in two flavours a permanent bolt on one and a clamp on one, both made from tubular material, one I think is available in stainless steel, and one in chrome. If you really have problems locating one, or identifying your original one, I could scan my Moss brochure and show you the different types. Nigel... MORE
Don That still doesn't make them 'Original Equipment' Don! Just because some 'over-enthusiastic customisation and personalisation crazy' North American Dealer want's to make LBC's shipped over from England more attractive to the North American consumer DOES NOT make pin stripes OE as defined by the factory or as they left the factory! But yes, if you like they may well be original to the car as provided by the Dealer - but what relevance is that in the general scheme of things? Dealers are as much to blame for messing cars about as PO's are! Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 24574... MORE
Which brings up a question I have. Is there anything to stop a person from installing an earlier model dash 59 - 63 in a 73 Midget? Realizing the washer switch, turn signal switch and ignition switch would have to come off the steering column. Don "Don May" 24620... MORE
