As far as I am concerned Bug/Frogeyes made in England at the factory either for export or home market use did not come with British Racing Green as an OE factory painted colour option. Neither did the Bug/Frogeye's that were sent to Australia leave this country painted as British Racing Green. Yep a great piece of road and well worth a visit if you've never been there, it also makes up part of the route for LeJog the Lands End to John O'Groats classic road rally. I would not recomend passing by at about 10pm in December it was dark and cold (to state the obvious) although it was Grockle Free! It may have just been the ice and the dark but I'm sure it is narrower than 3.5meters as we managed to get on the grass on both sides of the road several times, and despite some serious effort... Alan, Hardnot and Wrynose are on the same road, two successive passes seperated by a lower section called Wrynose Bottom. (put that in for Cap'n's amusement!). Yes, this is the road that I travel in the sprite, perhaps 10 or 15 times each year. For those who don't know it it is single track, 3.5 metres wide - that's is the tarmac width and that is all you get. No hard shoulder on these roads, so if you are off, then you are really off! I think it was Alan who was querying this... either he didn't know that Bugattis were blue (unlikely) or he didn't know that thery were French. ************************************************** I knew most Bugattis were blue, although I'm looking at a (Belgian)1920's B lack one at the moment. The famous type 35 (from 1924) usually blue and sti ll raced in historic GP events. I thought they were Italian up until modern days, but no. G'day all And sorry Nigel - BRG was a standard colour for Bugeyes in Australia. The cars assembled here came in as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and painted in grey primer. They were painted here in four standard colours, after four European national racing colours: Rhiems Blue (France) Monza Red (Italy) Nurburg White (Germany), and British Racing Green (duh). The Australian ID plates on the firewall were stamped with the car model, body number, engine number and colour. Colin I wasn't counting the cars shipped out as 'kits' ;) And as far as I'm concerned, BRG was never an OE colour for cars either built for the home market as RHD, or shipped to the US as LHD. And as the person in question received one of the LHD exported cars to the US, BRG would NOT have been an OE colour for it. Nigel, Quality of life in Cumbria isn't bad you know! Pint of Bluebird is locally 2.25 GBP. - 6.3% strength Micro-brewery beer from a one-man operation in Coniston. H e produces just 6 barrels a week so you cannot always get it but where it i s sold there is usually a good choice of "real ales" at similar strengths/ prices. That said, I went to a club in the West End this time last year and a "roun d" for 4 of us cost 60 GBP !! err, sorry, that was a "round of drinks" - nothing else... MORE

And to confuse things even more.... My book (Guide to Purchase and Restore the MG Midget & Austin-Healey Sprite) lists 2 BRG, a Medium Dark Green as GN25/ RM BM079 / DITZ 43342 for the Midget & MGB 64-70. The second is listted as a Medium Dark Yellow Green GN29 / RM BM078 / DUP 8194 also for the Midget & MGB 64-70 & MGC 67-69. An original Bugeye sales brouchure lists a Leaf green available with a black or white hood. I don't have any futher listing as to what "Leaf Green" is/was. Bob, Troutdale, OR "Robert Webb"... MORE

The foregoing having been said, I would contact Paul Asgeirsson and/or Bill Perry, in the event an "educated" lister does not respond (unlikely, but possible) and educate thy good self on EXACTLY what is involved, as both "do" these. Alex Bugeye's never came with British Racing Green as a colour option. The closest 'original' colour you'll find to BRG that is 'original' to the BE is Dark Green or Leaf Green for your year of car (Dark Green to Jan 59, Leaf Green thereonwards) The paint code for that is GN15. If you really must have BRG, try GN29 which was used on the Sprite MKII and III. After four years of repairs, I'm finally getting around to painting my 61 bugeye. Problem is there are dozens of "british racing green" colors. Every paint remotely green claims to be BRG. Heh, heh... The "blonde advantage" is, like most things, a two edged sword. While it may ver well get your foot in the door (with some men, not me) like a college degree, it's no guarantee when it comes to staying power over the long run. Thus, it is not really the advantage it would "appear" to be at first glance. Sure, Jim C., I understand. You're playing it conservatively on the safe side. I would, too, unless that used press. plate was basically new. Using used parts in circumstances wherein the engine must be pulled to replace same "in the event" is a bit of an "iffy" situation unless for whatever reason you don't mind putting yourself in this sort of situation. Me? I'd go with a new plate already modified by Rivergate. You don't want any problems and Rivergate doesn't want you to have any (with their kit), nor would Paul, were it his kit. #1, both are... G'day Terry I think Trevor could be on to the problem. It sounds like you are fitting the clips upside down. There is no way the two "ears" should hit the bodywork - they will face out from the body at about 45 degrees. The flat side of the clip should be flush with the body. If you are fitting them upside down, a small washer will not help - the trim will be loose after it is fitted. And I certainly would not suggest sliding the trim on - you are guaranteed to scatch the paint. The scratch... MORE
Well, Chuck... This is a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional, multi-interest normal human being bugeye group!!! Sorta. :) The tilt-front bonnet will tend to go too far forward. A simple fabricated cable/ bungee cord system within the engine compartment fastened to the inside of the bonnet in appropirate places will prevent going too far forward "over-center". But wont the wings hit when the hood is opened. I am doing a lot of body work and then going to paint and don't want any damage. Do I have to remove the brace from the hood to fender and pull the fender out when opening?
