Adam, Is this a joke? I had to go back and check if it was you who wrote "Option One" on how to unsubscribe from the group. !!!! It actually was Colin and I loved it but copying files is almost as difficult. It makes this old man's head hurt. I think it is easier to hit print and put the papers in a folder. Hi Folks, Recently my uncle passed away and I now am suddenly becoming more involved with the family farm, he was running it up until now. First thing is the barns need a massive cleanout. Neither my dad or my uncle ever threw anything away. Me either for that matter. I was there today working and I found a small stash of Spridget parts there I forgot I had. Hi Aaron, Leave off the lock tabs. Don't use them! They're so soft they tend to give a false reading to the torque/stretch value of the bolts. If you can read the "F" properly. (Not backwards!) on the washer when it's in place, you've got it right. Remember to center the front seal before tightening all the cover bolts. Do it by leaving the cover bolts loose, so the cover will move a bit, then put the front pulley in place. Tighten a couple or 3 bolts, take off the pulley and tighten the remaining bolts. Thought all you LBC owners would get a chuckle and/or a tinge of dread from this study in automotive design contrasts. That's my '71 RWA Midget and '02 Dodge Ram from 2 years ago. I've owned the Midget for 12 years and am slowly restoring it between glorious rides. My biggest project on this car is about to commence. Hey Paul Yesterday was the first time I was able to get my Sprite on the road since the 5 sp converison. All I can say Is SWEET. Milling the flywheel seem to let the motor rev faster. The Datsun 5 sp is great, the car seems to fly now. Was only able to go on my local back road, can not wait to get all the pieces put back on so I can Go for a real ride. The weather man says it will be in the 50's by the end of the week. (he has lied before)... MORE

Don't heat it with a torch. It will never come out then. The washer you see in there holding the piston in is plastic. Put it in a vice, take a drill with a very small bit and CAREFULLY drill a few holes into the plastic washer in a few different places and use a pick to get it out or just drill enough holes until it breaks apart and then carefully take the pieces out taking care not to harm the inside of the cylinder. I am certain that one of the more mechanical listers will say this is a bad thing to do, but here's what I do in situations like this: 1) put the item in a vise or somehow have it supported so that you don't have to hold it 2) use a propane torch to gently heat up the piston, making the rubber gooey enough to break free 2A) Don't let the rubber catch on fire! Let's see...it's been a week or so since Drew picked up Rick's '73 Midget in Vegas and drove it to the Seattle area. He took four days and his girl friend...she must have a great deal of faith in him to attempt such an adventure. I did get a couple of cell phone calls from him asking about this and that...you know, things like, "Why did it just stop running out here in the middle of nowhere?"...the usual questions. I bought what claimed to be a sticker set for a midget, but its obviously for a 1275, as the chassis plate is wrong, it has MG cars written on it not Austin morris like my original and the negative earth warning sticker is wrong, the suplied sticker has 'warning negative earth' witted in black on a silver background, the original one Which I still have as it's still attached to the original nose cone that was repalced is at least twice the size, has red writing and a whole lead more writing on it. Spent yesterday squeek and rattle testing in the feild, My 1500 Midegt has now put another 2 miles on its odometer (first movement it has seen in 16 years).. Found a loose shock boly, a loose wheel bearing and that I had only started the fuel pipe union into the tank and not done it up.. once it was all done it drove reaonably well.. apart form one thing, the clutch is still not working properly.. If you hold it down in 1st, the car gradually creeps off, my suspision is it fluid is leaking past the seals back... MORE

Gerry, do you have access to a copy of Bill Price's "The BMC/BL Competitions Department"? It has several contemporary photos of MKI MG Midgets of the same period as your MKII Sprite, clearly showing no bumpers. If you can't get hold of one, let me know and I'll scan the pics for you. The Healeys tended to go in for long distance races rather than rallies, with their works Sprites, so it isn't as easy to find photos of Sprites in rally trim. Regards David "David Jacobs" 36335... Hi Please can you help me. I've been rallying my Sprite MKII for more years than I care to remember, but I'm getting hassle from the HRCR scruitineer. He claims I should run with the bumpers on, because the car was never run "in period" without bumpers. This argument has gone on for the last two years, but now he is telling me that after 1st April he will refuse me a ticket unless I can prove otherwise. It's got to a point that I will stop rallying if I can't use my car the way I've presented it.... MORE
Here in the UK, I use my mk3 Midget ALL YEAR ROUND without any problem. She has a good heater, I have a flying jacket and warm helmet and gloves, so I don't get cold in winter. I hardly ever put up the hood, unless it's raining before the start of my journey. When I had my mk1, I drove up to Edinburgh at the end of January, when there was a lot of the white stuff about. Even had a few laps around Knockhill circuit. And all this without a hood, as the mk1 didn't have one!! Margaret... MORE
