Hi all, the hood frame or soft top frame on my 67 sprite will have to be restored before a new top is fitted to it,so the question is do l spray it / hand paint it or have it powder coated would be greatful if members have any ideas or how have you done yours. regards wes "wesley5060" 26983... MORE
We, the British tax payers, subsidised this to the tune of many hundreds of millions of pounds and then had to sell the last few to British airways for 1 and Air France for 1 frank each, I think we could have got more on ebay! Nigel... LBC=Little British Concord...LMAO..:):) I agree with you though. I admire and respect the technology as well of course and as a pilot, love the airplane BUT.... at modern oil costs it's impractical and yeah....it IS noisey and most especially so on departures, no doubt about it. And while one can excuse this in a military application ('cause it's "The Sound of Freedom" and thus, a necessary evil) but in a civilian one.....can't say as I blame you a bit considering you live under an aircraft departure corridor. Jim, That sounds like a great time. Count me in!!! I sort of have dropped the ball at having a second daytime get together of our local group. Some how we all seem to get busy around the holidays. Bl**dy estate agents! I quite agree with you Gary. I was in the MGOC for years but left because I didn't see the point. It felt more like the T Series / B / F club. The MASC is just the right mix of friendly club and professional organisation. Mike North makes an excellent job of putting the mag together and t' committee organise some excellent events which I have to confess I'm not very good at getting too. Gary Welcome to the list, but not it seems to MASC : ) Nothing at all wrong with posting contentious stuff, I seem to do that everytime I post, specially where 'Grumpy Ed' is concerned ; ) I *was* a member of masc many years ago, as I was a member of MGOC but my membership lapsed and I never renewed it as my interest in Spridgets lapsed. have you tried the trick of using a bolt screwed into the hydraulic pipe connection hole, with suitable washers/large diameter nut to press the circlip into place? "David Jacobs" 26915... MORE
Was looking at a book about classic British cars and there was this picture of a restored? frogeye with the worst panel gaps I have ever seen. The front of the sill missed the wing by about an inch and a half. If it were mine........ Terry "terry.isherwood" 26930... MORE
Brad There are always exceptions aren't there! Like the heap of rust with an original supercharger under the bonnet or genuine Healey front disc brake conversion or one of the 'Sprinzel' specials! Hi Lori Welcome to the list, although I suspect you won't be on it for long if you successfully sell your Sprite! Firstly, it's very difficult to be able to put a price on a car, specially one of these cars without having seen it first. The three factors that determine value for these cars are firstly bodywork condition, ie how much rust does it have? As this is one of the most expensive areas to put right. So, how much rust it has and the areas that the rust is in is a big factor. The second is... MORE
Are there any tricks to getting the door glass back in the "tracks"? The seals have been replaced in the channels and that might be the problem as in too thick on the bottom, no smart &ss comments on that one! I tried loosening all the bolts but the front channel/vent window will not fit. Does anyone have a suggestion. Almost done with the car, after all this work this is a pain in the butt. Thanks. I agree also on this point, I've seen some really poor bonnet gaps on frogeyes, even on restored cars! I guess this is an area on those cars difficult to get right, not that I'd know from experience never having owned one... maybe after I've finished the one I'm working on! Why especially me? Why single me out? I thought this list was here for like-minded individuals to share experiences of working on these cars so that we may all benefit. I think concours is an absolute and total waste of a car. The cars were made to be driven when they rolled out of the factory, and those that still exist still have the soul of a driver (screw that VW ad "drivers wanted") in them. In my opinion, anyone that does concours is as much a criminal as the person that leaves one to rust to death with no intention of ever doing anything with it. Nigel (and all others), I did take some precautions against sagging of the body: - Before putting the new sill in place I fitted the door - Didn't fit nice (body had sagged a bit) - Supported the cross-member with a jack and knocked a piece of timber between the a-post and lock plate to correct a few millimeters (0.12") - Then I welded a tube in place to keep the desired door-gap I'm sure you're right that I did it the wrong way round!
