Just bolted up my R front suspension-new coil springs, shock,rebuilt kingping,bushings the works. But a question. On the bottom of the kingpin, where it mounts into the pan, I installed the 2 cork washers that came with the kit. Now when I put in grease, it seems to flow out quicker than it did before, on either side of the kingpin. Is this normal? Grease also flows out quicker everywhere on the kingpin where there's a zerk. Is this because there is no hard grease backing things up? Should I be concerned? Plus - those corkwashers seem strange. Would... MORE

The 68 STILL burns oil. From cold, the first 5 miles are just little puffs, then it goes into James Bond mode. Not full time, it comes and goes. I tried our shop mechanics idea to determine if the rings are seated. I have the head off, so I put 1" of oil on top of each piston. The oil has not dropped hardly at all in 1 1/2 hours. I can tell from the head, which chambers were burning oil, and the one that was not, has the most significant amount of seepage, almost 1/8", the others are... MORE

5 leaves?.. would that no make them possibly 1500 springs? if so the 1500 was 1.5" higher than any other sprite, and as they are meant to have a lot of extra weight (bumpers and re-inforcement) probably higher still, and you have by replacing the rear panels with fiberglass brought about a noticeable reduction in weight.. Rob Batley.... You know....years ago I owned a '67 Sprite and had purchased a Bugeye rear glass clip to "match" the Bugeye bonnet which came on this car when I acquired it. Figured the BE front and rear end with the '67 wind up windows, and fold down top, etc. would be about the perfect Spridget. Before I could get to mounting the rear clip, the car was destroyed in an accident wherin the other guy was at fault, resulting in the aquisition of my current BE. Some help needed here 1972 chrome bumper midget. Just bought a new backing bar for the front bumper. All holes are in line. The one I have taken off has a couple of curves in it making the two fixing holes to the bodywork 3/4 inch from the centre line of the other holes that bolt the bar to the bumper. Since this fits onto the chrome bumper either way round I can vary the height of the bumper, levle with the bodywork holes using the new bar or up or down 3/4 inch using the old bar depending... MORE
Hi All I am finishing building a frogeye out of a 1970 midget (fibreglass front and rear) and replaced the rear springs (left all nuts and bolts loose until loaded) with nearly new (purchased on auto jumble 5 leaves 38mm wide 4.35mm thick). I am in the middle of changing the front suspension on the 68. I am catching my breath, and allowing the spring pans and disc brake backers to dry from being coated with fresh paint. Thank you to Peter for the new shocks, I will have the cores on their way to you this week. Btw, I was missing the bolt on the right shock that keeps the trunion bolt from turning, I hope this isn't a big issue. Just Ed, the parts are great, everything is going on fine!!! Your wooden 'spanner' may have a tendency to bounce a bit and absorb some of the impact you need to loosen them; Are they octagonal nuts or the eared spinners? I would try using the proper steel spanner if they're the octagonal ones, or hitting directly on the eared ones. David "David Jacobs" 32262... MORE
Listers, I need to sell off some of my spare parts. I have several 948, 1098 and 1275 engine or partial engines to sell. One 1275 is a complete low mileage, clean and running engine. others are rebuildable cores, but pretty much everything I have is degreased and ready for whatever you'd like to use it for (table base?) do you mean the nut/2-eared spinner won't loosen, or the wheels themselves won't come off, once the nuts have been removed? Don't forget they have different handed threads on each side! One trick to get the wheels loose is to undo the nut a couple of turns then lower the car back down off the jack and carefully roll it backwards and forwards. Dave, Having spoken to the camp organisers, it looks like I will have to stay until everything is packed away, probably mid afternoon, so it looks like I won't be able to make the gathering after all. One of the drawbacks of being a youth leader means that if even one of my group goes on camp, then I, as their leader, have to go too. I enjoy doing it, but it's a shame to miss an MG/Sprite gathering which is quite close to home. Next time, give me plenty of warning!! Camp is always May bank holiday weekend.... MORE
I'm having as problem removing the brass nut for the fuel line coming out of the tank. The tank is now off the car but the nut refuses to budge after several days of penetrating oil (Kroil) soaking. Part of the problem is that the nut is an odd size and none of my wrenches/spanners fit it properly. It is within a few thou of .600 inches and this does not match up to fractional sizes. 19/32 is as close as I can find and at that size I have only an open end wrench. I purchased my Sprite... MORE
Hi Nelson, The nut size is 5/16" Whitworth. If you have that wrench, slip it over from the fuel pump or cut the line to slip the wrench on. Because of the nut construction it's REAL easy to collapse it. If it's really corroded to the tank, likely an adjustable wrench will collapse the nut, so be careful.
