FINALLY getting enough strength in my arms again to work on the car. Pulled ligament in right shoulder, and tennis elbow on left arm pretty much decimated my sex life. Um wait, that is another e group. Anyway, I think I have found the root cause of my oil problem. I put the head on, torque it down with my trusty Taiwanese click wrench to 42 pounds. They final torque at 50, so for shits and giggles, I got my $5 flea market Craftsman beam wrench. Believe it or not, my Taiwanese wrench was not torquing as tight as... MORE
Jim, I carry a complete distributor with the mount & sparkplug wires attached and timed. Should my Pertronics every fail all I have to do is swap it out . Two bolts and two wires and I'm good to go. I also carry a spare set of points in my travel kit. When a bunch of us are driving our cars you never know who might need roadside assistance. Photo attached My MK III Sprite is the one in the gazebo, the event took place at Hermitage Hall near Downham Market Norfolk, on the original medieval pilgrims way to Walsingham. You may have to blow the photo up a bit to see the detail since it is in panoramic format, the non-Spridget on the right hand end is a Le Mans replica MGA, the red car about halfway between my Sprite and the MGA is an Arkley. Margaret The gathering -was a reasonable success with a turnout of 16 topless Spridgets on a brilliant hot and sunny day. I think we had almost every MK and model including a supercharged Arkley, a Sebring Sprite, an isle of white frogeye, the standard frogeye featured in July's Practical classics, a K series car and a five speed conversion. It was a great day enjoyed by all, it is a pity a few more of you couldn't make it (maybe next year). I think all those who attended were Midget and Sprite club members and the event is described... I have aquired a brand new 3 peice clutch kit with carbon bearing. I want to convert to a ball race thrust bearing, SO, does it run on the existing trilobular reaction plate fixed on the diaphragm spring? Now the paint is finally going on my 1500 I have been sorting though the bits. On inspecting the front suspension what a surprise, it's all shot. play nearly everywhere it should not be. Do any of the owners clubs in the UK still keep the reamer needed to fit the bush and lend it out? (IIRC Dad borrowed one from the local MGOC back in the '70s). Mike, Let me start by saying if there are no leaks and the fluid level in the MC dosen't drop, I would suspect your MC. That said, does your brake warning light come on when you turn the ignition on? If it dosen't then the switch is centered. When either the right or left brakes fail the internal shuttle is push to one side or the other to seal off the side which has lost pressure and when it does it activates the switch and the dash light comes on. Jens, After a complete re-build of my car, including new radiator and cap, I too was loosing water out of the overflow pipe for no apparent reason. The clue lies in the new cap. Although this was rated at the correct pressure (7 psi for early cars, 15 psi for later ones) it turned out to be a modern one with a neck that was too short, so was never seating properly! The easy way to check if yours is seating is to look at the bottom of the rubber seal to see if it has a circular indentation,... MORE

Yes Brad, I've since found out The up to 72 steering rack brackets were aluminium, then they were pressed steel . I have two sets of '72 and have established that the brackets and rack will have to be transfered to the Frogeye for LHD to RHD conversion. Even though the lock to Lock number of turns is higher. They are a real challenge! I have removed serveral this way: Soak (and I mean SOAK) the bolts with penetrating oil for a day or two. Put the nut back on the bolt and turn until the end of the bolt and the nut are even. Get a BIG hammer and hit the end of the bolt hard! After a few hits it will begin to move. You will have to use a punch to finish the job. The rear ones are harder because you can't get a good swing with the hammer. Just keep working on them. Although... MORE
Hi Group, My latest challenge is the removal of the bolts that fasten the radius arms to the body. I have removed the nuts from the ends of the bolts and am able to rotate the bolts but they cannot be removed. When I hit the end of a bolt it gives no indication of movement. When the bolt turns, the spacers do not turn with it. I'd appreciate another dose of wisdom from cyberspace. With your help I've been able to dispose of all of my previous challenges. She's too smart to be that closely associated, "in the event" and I have to admit, Kerry has his good points but he's no strong candidate, per se. I think Kerry is the best they have to offer at this point in time given global circumstances. 1. The shortly later models used a 3/4" dual master cylinder with disk brakes. Looks just like the Bugeye 7/8" but takes less pressure. 2. There is a mastercylinder cap? on ebay for the dual mastercylinder that is raised an holds more fluid than the flat cover??? 3. Hi, Just ran my Bugeye in 4 Vintage races but fortunately blew a head gasket, cutting short my last race, because the master cylinder had suddenly lost about half its fluid in a few laps! Guess now is the time to upgrade to a dual circuit cylinder. What is the easiest route to do this? Any "how to" guides on the internet? There is a roll cage tube that goes quite close beside the "box" the master brake/clutch cylinder unit is in, so I don't have a lot of room for anything.
