Hi Guy, I suspect that you have some calipers that are ready for a rebuild. These pistons don't retract as the new cars do, but merely relax. If the dust seals are stiff and totally dried out it will inhibit the relaxing of the pads from the rotors. I rebuild a lot of these calipers and sometimes it's almost impossible to get out the pistons because there's 40 years of crud and dried up rubber involved. Another possibility on the calipers is the m/cyl is holding too much pressure on the system with it's internal residual valve. A suggestion... MORE
I usually push my Sprite out of the garage each morning before I set off. The garage has an interconnecting door to the kitchen so I try to minimise the exhaust fumes in there. The point is this. It is quite heavy to push. The brakes are not binding and the tyre pressures are at 24 / 22. It should weigh in at about 1520 Pounds (Sprite,1971) By comparison, my daughter's Peugeot 106 has a kerb weight of 1675 Pounds and rolls very easily, you hardly have to lean on it. Damien, Unless you are planning on replacing the needle roller bearings in the Hardy Spicer joints, I would not attempt too dismantle them as it will be virtually impossible to do so without damaging the bearing caps or grease seals. Clean the UJs in situ, taking care not to de-grease the bearings, and then paint the tubular part of the propshaft only. Guy "Guy Weller" 31950... MORE

Jens Indeed, you can release more power from having a more efficiently flowing intake manifold but you don't have to modify your existing one. There's plenty of aftermarket ones that do the job as well if not better than modifying the standard manifold. I've often seen them popping up on ebay - worth keeping an eye out for one. Sounds like either a) more suction on the front carb - in which case you need to balance the carbs, adjusting the throttle stop screws of each whilst litening to the induction hiss from each one in turn - or using one of the many crb ballancer kits available or b) You have not got the jets adjusted to the same point on both carbs, allowing the front one to pull more fuel through. The start point is both jets flush with the bridge ( see "cryptic manual" thread ), and then lower both jets by the same amount... MORE
Hi, I=92ve just =91joined the club=92 with my 1960 leaf-green frog. I bought he r back in February and although completely restored, she=92s been sitting in a gar age for 7 years, so I=92ve been quite busy making adjustments and sorting a few teething problems. Although she=92s running fine for the moment, one of the Carbs needs reconditioning and I need an electrician to check over the loop. Can anyone recommend anyone? (Preferably in the Southern England region) - and if ther e =92s somebody who can do both =96 albeit unlikely =96 that=92d be grand! Oh, and Radio!... MORE

Hi 1972 chrome bumper Midget. I suspect that a previous owner has nudged the front and pushed the front bumper back but I have to work out what is disto rted if anything. Can someone please nip out and measure the distance between the top of the front bumper and the curved bit of the grill trim above where the fixing bo lts are. I have 3 cm and 2.5 cm on my car. Jim My bushings came from Moss, and yes they're pretty tricky to fit. I ended up widening out the two areas the ends of the wishbone go into on the frame, putting one bush into each inside of the wishbone arm, fitting the arms to the frame then pushing through the second bushing through the hole in the frame - then the bolts. I hadn't noticed the high Buy it Now price but that does make it less attractive. From what I understand now, the SU electronic pump is the best way to go. Buying it from LBC I will get the discount on the Moss price bringing it down to $107.06. Also looked at the possibility of rebuilding the mechanical pump and can't figure out why the rebuild kit costs more than a new pump. Guess they don't want to sell the kits. I plan to throw out my mechanical fuel pump on my 62 948 engine and replace it with an electronic pump. This pump model on e-bay ( http://tinyurl.com/2l72d ) has been there a number of times but I wonder if it would be a satisfactory substitute for the SU solid state version. Any thoughts? Odd. On mine the knurled cable fitting just passed through that hole. Close fit but it worked. I cannot measure it as as I don't want to take the grommet out again. I do remember that getting it into place with the cable already through the hole as really difficult because of the awkward location.
