Not sure, Roger. Bugeye, Bugeye gas gauge, sender new/unused in original box, bought from a parts pack rat in '00. Didn't study or keep the box or part #. If anybody has installed a Rivergate in a MK II Sprite, what do you do about the adjustment to the metal shifter housing cover and boot so that it looks fairly original and not "butchered" up. Is there another boot out there that you can recommend? This thing wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. Also, if anybody decides to order one, make sure that you know what size crank is in there or you'll get the wrong seal AND they have to know if your car is RHD or LHD. I didn't tell them and got... Hi Jack in Texas.... We had to cut a larger hole in the shifter cover to accomodate the gate positons of the Datsun box using the Sprite shifter which we adopted to the Datsun tranny. I found an MGB rubber gaitor worked just fine for the larger hole. The Rivergate people ARE great to work with!! No doubt about it. Bill, Unless I am mistaken, the original horn switches have heavy contacts that can handle the amperage necessary to operate the horn. The "curly wire" you are interested in is of a very light guage. I don't believe that it would handle the current that it takes to make the old "beep-n-tooter" work without overheating. I would suggest that the curly wire would work well if you incorporated a relay to send power to the horn instead of direct wiring. When you operate the starter, do the lights dim? If so check your battery. When the ignition switch contacts failed on another of my cars, I removed the cowl and put a jumper across the two terminals on the back of the switch after looking at the wiring diagram to establish which colours the relevant wires were. (Workshop Manual) Another indicator that the switch is going (although different contacts) is that the engine will miss a few beats, particularly when the engine is pulling, for example up hill, leading to a bit of Kangerooing. I can only suggest that you look on the internet and find out where the most local midgesprite and MG Car Club meetings are (oh yes, the MG owners club too) and go along and have a look at some of the cars. You will probably find enthusiasts who live near to you who would be only too willing to help. All those who I have met over the years have been very friendly/helpful and willing to share their knowledge of these cars with fellow enthusiasts. You do not need to know much - just be willing to learn.... MORE

Look at lots of cars then you'll get a feel for price. If you are not sure then once you feel you have a good candidate then pay for an inspection. Remember that mechanical faults are much easier / cheaper to fix that structural ones. As long as the car is sound then you can improve it but with a shoddy body you are always fighting against the tide. I know I'm not a great expert, but I was going to use Footman James (Tel : 0121 561 6262) They were the cheapest quote by far for unlimited mileage, and a free breakdown (but not homestart) service. If you're in the MG Car Club, you might get a discount, too. They've been going a while, so I guess they must give a good service. Hope this helps. Hi everyone Things have not gone quite to plan... My intended midget has been ditched. I was going to pay a fair bit for it, and having spoken to several people (including a guy from the MG Car Club's Midget Register) should have got a good car for my money. On further inspection, the one I was going to have had a mileometer that didn't move, doors that didn't lock, an oil leak, VIN number that didn't match the documents and so on, so I've hung on to my cash and will keep looking for a car slightly nearer... I am about to insure my frogeye lovingly reconstructed by Robs Frogs. Does anyone have any good experiences with insurance companies or companies they can recommend (please give reasons if possible)? (One insurance company told me I shouldn't want to use my car for occasional business purposes, but I take the view that it's up to me what I do with my car, and up to them to tell me how much it will cost to insure!)
