...might be on subject...but not 'specific' to the conversation.... I've been studying (extensively) the various emissions re-breather systems used on the various years and models of LBC's. Why? Trying to come up with a system that won't dump oil all over the back of the intake valves. Any of you that have ever pulled a head off an engine that has had a bit of blow-by due to worn rings, knows what I mean. Whereas studs have a plain portion usually in the middle, as opposed to studding which is threaded all the way. Screws have the thread going right up to the head, bolts have a plain portion of the shank under the head. Alan and yes, the Subject is a play on words "alan.east-jones" 24905... MORE
I think the term machine screw means one with a parallel thread ( unlike a woodscrew which tapers to a point) A setscrew is a thing that looks like a bolt, but the thread extends the full length of the thing. Help! I am sure I have heard or read of a slick method to do this, but can't seem to find it in the archives. My problem is this, I have the engine and transmission all in, but neglected to put the driveshaft into the back of the transmission till now. Is there a clever way to keep the U-joint from flopping around long enough to get this into the transmission without cutting holes anywhere? The last LBC (a 70 Midget) of these I owned (20 years ago) it seems some previous owner had solved this problem by tearing... MORE

Errr, no Bob, One identifies nuts and bolts be the item that they fasten. Sump bolts, timing cover bolts, steering wheel nut, header nuts, seat runner bolts. Get the picture? So, wheel studs and wheel nuts! Guy "Guy Weller" 24886... MORE

Alan, nice pics (including the Dino - one of my all time favourites!) but I've taken the liberty of deleting the 'full size' versions as most of the membership cannot view those, only the screen-size ones. In album labeled Stoneleigh. The car has an all steel bonnet, disk brakes and was very clean and tidy through out. I believe it still has skinny crossply tyres on solid wheels. The car is owned by a Midgetsprite club member - see the central disk on the windscreen . The Fiat picture can be removed by the moderator as it's not LBC , but it's an interesting comparison Alan "Alan" 24783... MORE

I've just recently bought an 1967 Austin Healey Sprite that was in need of some TLC, however I've also since found out it's got a few parts 'missing'! One of those was the flame trap that connects through flexible hoses the block to the inlet manifold (it doesn't have the 'Y' connector). Since fitting the missing part it now won't run properly. It has started to kick out loads of white smoke & a little bit of blue. We've compression tested the engine, fitted a new head gasket & set up the carbs so they are fine. We've now... MORE
Jason... Sounds like the problem is on the "other side" (electrical) of the engine, assuming compression and leak down figures do not indicate mechanical problems. When was the last time you replaced wires, dist. cap, plugs, points, condenser and/or coil? On my 61 Bugeye, the speedo worked when I purchased the car 12/02. Since then speedometer seemed to have frozen. Replaced the cable , same thing. Lubricated the cable, Sent the speedometer to Nisonger Instruments, Worked for about 3 miles then same problem. Removed the speedometer side of cable and the shaft is spinning? Assuming the repair was correct and remains good there is a slim chance it might be the gear reduction box. The shaft is spinning when you disconnect it with no load or pressure from bends in the cable. Have you squeezed the end of the rotating shaft to see if with some load pressure the shaft continues to turn? It might be that the gears or the bearings in the rear reduction box on the back of the generator are worn and causing slippage. I remember seeing something in one of my books about this bonnet (hood) but I can't for the life of me find it now. I think it may be in the Chris =3D=0D Harvey book on Sprites and Midgets which I've lent to someone.
